The Sorc 100 grind experience (TLDR: it's AWFUL)

I am just about to roll over 100 and for the last 30 levels or so I’ve gotten carried by players that do 20x more damage than me. This isn’t an embellishment. They literally do 20x more than I do. I die more than anyone else in the party. I literally bring fireball buff to the group and that’s it. I’m being carried completely because my class is so completely terrible I can’t even play the game with my friends. I get to be a burden, Now I’m doing sigils with them and they want to do 60s. I can’t even clear 40s fast. I get to a shielding mob and I do literal nothing to them. So now leveling up my glyphs will be more of me begging to get carried again.

I don’t even want to play anymore. This sucks. Not being able to scale sucks. All my “big damage” being locked behind a 20 second cooldown sucks. You could literally buff this class 1000% and druid, barb and rogue will still be doing more.

If you don’t like the sorceress you can always try a different class.

Get ready for people who don’t play your class telling you to “get good”.

They did exactly the same situation at the start of Diablo 3. I remember a team with all classes, and the sorcerer was terribly useless, dying instantly and dealing no damage. So the gameplay of the sorc was to stay at the maximum distance, out of the boss screen, and spam basic auto attacks with an auto-targeting effect.

try ice shards with high cc-, vulnerability- and crit dmg, its super strong

My recollection was that sorceresses were one of the first inferno clearing classes due to crit interacting with something or other to perma-CC Diablo.

teleport with split turning into archon halfway thru the portal made you invincible.

I definitely agree with what you’re saying on a lot of it. Some of our moves are just so bad I’ve never seen another sorc use it. I’m 76 and I’ve seen one firewall sorc, and the rest are arc lash or ice shards. Our paragon boards are a joke compared to others. Comparing the dex glyphs to the intelligence glyphs is insane. There’s like one board with lightning damage yet I have a whole glyph that only affects this one board. I’m on my fourth paragon board and have picked up zero legendary nodes.

But I can definitely solo nm 40s at this level. It might be your gear that’s holding you back?

Having the majority of Sorc’s damage multipliers on CC’d targets is another awful design. You’re relying on cooldowns or killing the monsters before they become unstoppable.

I only played this class for much of nostalgia related reason from d2, and wow the sorc in d4 did not live up to her predecessor in d2. no dps, no survivability, and damage mechanic was terrible with 20 second cooldown frost nova being mandatory and only way to apply vulnerable damage. while the barb and druid, whos auto applying vulnerable damage as they attack or ww. jokes of a design

uhh, shards and orb have vulnerability built in. Aspects also

thats frost build only my friend, try applying vulnerability mechanic with fire sorc or lightning sorc with out frost nova. ya u wouldn’t find any, thats sorc balance for u.

Yeah sorc is not good for nm pushing unfortunately

This sounds like a build problem, if your cooldowns are “locked” at 20s. You also rushed to 100 before leveling up your glyphs…which was a problem too. This is not to say the Sorcerer is not dead last at clearing NM dungeons, because they absolutely are, but your friends doing “literally 20x” more damage than you is a gross exaggeration, or your gear is terrible.

While damage could go up, it’s nowhere near 1/20th of what a Rogue or Barbarian is doing. Stop focusing on the million damage crits that happen maybe a few times a second and ignoring the fact that we can deal maybe half of that per hit, but at a much faster rate per second.

Biggest problem is survivability and resources, even at very high levels of cost reduction.

Have fun struggling against the butcher at high level while druid, barb, and rogue can melt it in less than ten seconds and then say it’s not 1/20th.

This is such a silly comparison. Meanwhile, the overall clear speed is just as fast, if not faster until the 50s. Then it just falls off a cliff. Has very little to do with “damage” either.

I used to think that too but if you look up some of the current strongest builds you will realize that we are kinda the team’s water boys. Even Ice Shards pales in comparison to Hammer of the Ancients or Werewolf Druid.

I think you need to build more damage reduction and life my friend. If you’re level 100 and truly struggling to clear tier 40 rifts quickly, you need to work on leveling your glyphs in lower tier NM.

Bombing straight to 100 without focusing on proper itemization and glyph leveling is a huge mistake.
