The REAL problem with Sorceress

TLDR: SINGLE TARGET DAMAGE

After finally finding and reading all of the 2.1 PTR notes, I am wondering how it is that the problem with the sorceress class is seen to be that Conjurations are too strong and everyone has to play them, or Firebolt to apply burning for Ice / Lightning builds is a really great and effective way to tap into the multiple element meta and shouldn’t be, or that we can’t allow Frost and Shock focused builds to benefit from the Crit damage of devouring blaze because that is a pyromancy skill and should only be used by fire focused builds (even though many fire builds do a significant portion of their damage with skills that do not benefit from crit)

Sorceress is a very versatile and powerful class generally speaking. Thier AOE mastery is a power to behold, their speed of movement on the battlefield is matched by none. The weaver of elemental destruction concept, whereby they unleash their greatest power by tapping into all of the elements is fun and engaging. THE PROBLEM with the class is one thing and has been for quite some time. The Sorceress CANNOT deal sufficient damage to bosses due to low SINGLE TARGET DAMAGE efficacy.

In a game that is not a group centric MMO, each class must be able to handle all content, and therefore the idea of having hard hitting single target classes and AOE “Trash clear” classes is not a valid or viable concept for a player who wants to be able to complete all content solo.

fire bolt is awful and super clunky to play plus it only works on bosses with adds so lots of fishing is needed. no thanks. so if this is the only choice, i am just not going to bother: i prefer fun builds instead of this.

The sorc balance team has no clue what they are doing. Most of them dont actually. There are probably a few people that do know what they are doing, but they can’t do it all.

Wrong concept.

  1. The dev already said the purpose of changing of firebolt enchantment will solve the problem of sorcerer has to use their enchantment slot for firebolt every season. You lose 21% critical damage multiplier, you get back the multiplicative damage from Inner Flame and Icy Touch which was not benefiting lightning build previously.

  2. Firebolt has high single target damage, it lacks of mobs clear speed like Lightning spear. Armory will solve this problem as we can swap different build for different content. Armory usage should be allowed in Pit, so players can swap to single target build instead of rely on fishing boss with mobs if the shatter double dipping bugs are not fix in S7.

Boss HP can always be adjust if players have difficulty to take down them. Pit boss HP was reduced in S6, it can further reduce in S7 base on PTR feedback.

If we can’t have devouring blaze, my armchair design would be:

-New passive, 5/10/15%[ x ] to critical damage, yes, everyone not doing a dot build would take it, all classes have passives like this, but I guess it would be okay because it’s less gimmicky.

-Significantly buff base damage to all single target skills.

-Redesign enchantments, give three slots, make them far more versatile in line with druid or necro choices. Divide enchantments into offensive, defensive, and utility, and allow one of each.

ooooh i see there is a hidden post. must be Olive. So tempted to open it but i’m 100% sure it will either have nothing to do with the ST dmg issue, or if it does it will be completely contrived nonsense that is totally irrelevant.

No way, I don’t want to switch to another build before I do the pit boss lol
The Pit has a timer, Diablo-4 is not Wow lol

actualy there is a problem with the whole game not only sorcs …

my opinion… shut down … close them doors … pick d2r … work on it get some ideeas … come back … in 20 years with a new diablo … till then poe2 till we get sick

We used to be able to switch build in AOZ, it was abused with snap shooting. In S0, sorc meta of killing uber lilith was to use wand to stagger her and switch to staff with Control aspect which did 5x damage to boss then.

Switching gear has been available in my build base game, I can switch build in Division 2, Armor core 6 and many games.

Now we even can even switch build in Hordes when fighting the boss. It is nothing new.

The timer of the Pit Boss can be resolved if we can switch build from Wardrobe button, not going to a place to click the switch.

What was vindicating? 21% critical damage multiplier? I think you have to visit the topic called D4 damage buckets, if you mean this :wink:

You have limited skill points, any issue of you not moving the 3 points to inner flame and icy touch for lightning/frost build. You just don’t like the description of this passive?

Have fun in whatever games you play good sir. If/when I play a game and I find I don’t like it, I stop playing and don’t waste any of my time thinking/reading/posting about it. Time is the most precious thing you have… don’t squander it

To be clear: I really like this game and believe that it can/will be made worthy of the Diablo moniker. I don’t post critical or negative posts because I hate the game or its makers. I post critiques and complaints because it is my sincere hope that one or two of them may actually have merit, be seen, and contribute to taking the game to a better place :wink:

I also play other games, but I tend to talk about them on their own forums if I want to discuss them.

i didnt said i hate the game … simply the game its dead and will remain dead untill there will be changes in the dev team … u can be positive if u like negative … i dont give a crap … i bought the game paid for it … i think im on my right to make a critisim about it if it got to the point it is today … and we can break it by parts if u like … but the main issues its ( No end game , exploits , dupes , no class blance) wich in this case kills the who game + this dev team its anti fun … they spoon feed u like a baby

now the forums are for a reason … to give critisim feed back etc… since from critisim u learn to play with the big boys :=)

I kinda do the same but after a year and a half I kinda got more I dont want to say troll because that is not my intent maybe more given up angerish. I still try and at least contribute things that I feel are wrong with the game and how I think it could be better. Most of that just turns into arguing with others. Usually respectful at least but sometimes not.

I don’t have the faith that you do. They are too focused on metrics and trying to eat the whole pie. IMO the game was better at launch. It felt like combat. The only problem for me was the grind 70+ with only one piece of content and no gear upgrades to look forward to. Then the streamers had at it. Mainly Rax and his “blaster” mentality. I hate that term but whatevs. Now the whole game is just hold button down and delete. Thats not a game. Whats hilarious about this is he had a big hand in why the game is this way and now hes going to PoE2 which is the complete opposite and basically anything he complained about this game having here it has there. Suddenly all that stuff will be ok. Im waiting for it.

Sorc aspects are way too “safe”.

Other classes have aspects that increase skill damage by 50%+ while sorc aspects are still stuck at 30~40% range.
