The problem with druid

I’ve only mained druid in the diablo franchise (D2) once it came out, in D3 I played barb because the class was not present. But this new interation of druid feels horrendously underpowered, clunky and otherwise pathetic compared to its D2 counter part (we can compared it directly to it, as most of its kit is directly inspired by that character.) Now befoere you come in here, and scream “It’s just a beta” or “We only have x amount of the full kit”. If the other classes can out pace, move faster, hit harder, fight longer then us now then it will STILL be like that at the end game. The average player is not going to suffer through 50+ levels to be able to play their class when better options are available.

  1. Shapeshifting is weird and clunky, werewolf feels fine and is probably the strongest form of druid out there. But its squishy and is unable to compete with a basic necro/rogue/sorc (Barb has its own issues, very much similar to druid.) And it falls off when fighting big bosses.

  2. Werebear is pathetic, thats basically it. It can hardly even go through and win its fights and takes forever to kill just about anything. This would be fine if it had the sustain to match its smaller damage but werewolf has more sustain. The blood howl offers a huge self heal, deafening roar does not? Werebear is to our tanky spec and werewolf and option for dps? So why is werewolf more capable of sustaining itself then the bear? Makes no sense.

  3. The summons outside of vine creeper are stupid, the wolves just die and the ravens are more of an attack then anything else. The core summons in D2 ressurected are what should’ve been brought over and their utility should’ve been brought forward. (A trait that makes wolves become dire wolves, consum corpses and buff you and their power would be neat? Same with ice attacks?) or hell where is our wolf pack? We can only have two? Or how about the bear pet, our big boy? They exist all over the game and yet we don’t have one? Thats silly.

  4. I appreciate them trying to let me make a “Thor” character with storm druid, it just needs some damage increases and maybe some more mobility. But it felt ok; I liked it. Cataclysm and most if not all the ultimates were hilariously bad.

  5. Earth druid, I didn’t play it so I am not sure how good it is. I am sure it was probably fine. The reason I didn’t is because I didn’t prefer it so I am not about to say it was bad. I did try petrify and the boulder and they both made me laugh but the rest I just didn’t fiddle with.

  6. Fortify seems to not even work; It didn’t save me in intense fights and my damage overall in werebear was horrible, Pulverize is amazing but our auto attack and every other skill just seems laughably bad as I’ve said. (Ironically just like launch D2 LOD where it was horrible too and needed massive changes to be good.) Werewolf again, was fine in damage.

  7. We feel REALLY slow. Kind of the same issue barb kind of has? But we feel even worse off.

  8. I loved the cosmetics

  9. I loved suarfangs voice actor being the male voice. 10/10

Thanks for reading, have a good afternoon.

I reached level 25 and tested out a few builds. My legends were pretty terrible, so its mostly without items in mind.

Werewolf and bear skills are pretty awful. They don’t feel good to use, are slow, clunky and is melee and we all know how melee is in this game. Only fun ability I enjoyed was pulverize, werewolf skills were a big disappointment overall.

Companions are not bad because they are tanky and draw aggro. I do feel like the wolves need to deal higher passive damage, leveling up the wolves is almost useless, never worth spending a point on and this chould change. Active damage is good, but their bites should deal higher damage when level up.

I tried both wind druid and earth druid upon reaching 25, and I have to say these are highly enjoyable once they get going. Granted I did get a very powerful legend that added an extra instance of damage on the earth core skill, the damage was huge and rolling boulder is really fun to use. Earth druid felt good, even though the basic skill is a bit awkward to use.

Then I tried wind druid and its similar. Really fun build, I maxed the wolves as extra single target damage, but wind druid deals, although not very high, fast continuous damage and it was really fun to play at level 20-25. Did well against both elites and high groups of enemies, without any big legendary. Overall both of these felt great once they got going, and pretty powerful overall.

Didn’t try lightning druid, but in my opinion mainly the werewolf, bear and companion skills needs some work, but I had a great time overall once you got to higher levels. I also don’t think companions should be so reliant on items, 300% damage items is silly when upgrading the skills gives less than 10% damage. I agree, dire wolves and bears would have been great, D2 did the summons better.
