This has been ongoing since launch.
When doing updates and patching the game, it can hammer on the CPU, the system responsiveness, everything. This is one of the reasons I maintain doing updates and walking away from it, just let it work on it without you tinkering around on it doing other things.
where is the patch note for this update?
Right here…
This game caused issues with the throttling ever since the launch. After the patch it doesnt even go past the loading screen lol.
This is how Agent is designed, sadly. It’s been this way since…well, forever, at least since they switched to the Battle.net desktop app vs. the old school Diablo 2 style Battle.net updater. Agent is doing a ton of things that people don’t realize. First and foremost it’s checking, and altering permissions as necessary to install files, it’s doing the whole index and data file packaging schpiel, and the (insanely stupid) “reclaiming disk space” at the end which does nothing but perform write/zero cycles on the drive and is one of the most abysmal practices in the game industry when SSDs are more mainstream than HDs now (Steam is grossly guilty of this as well).
The Battle.net app is essentially malware at this point and is just royally broken beyond reason. And that’s what’s installing our games, lulz.
Honestly, I disagree. It has not been so bad that it crashes itself offline and reconnects every so often like it does while updating Diablo IV. That has been a pretty consistent problem since Diablo IV was added to the lineup.
True, its a resource hog, but till this game, it was not near as troublesome. Now? It can bring even an i9 to its knees during updates.
It needs an overhaul. Plain and simple.
