It says there’s a patch that’s downloadable the day after the season starts.
Yes and its starts downloading after selecting it and closing the download menu (on Xbox).
And its says its a preload for the season that starts on March 11

Meh. Schedules are schedules.
The much of the time, patches/content are ready and/or downloaded ahead of time. It’s just a matter of waiting until the determined date.

They don’t have to worry about dataminers this season because they put nothing in the patch.

I get these weird “shadow patches” all day long, every single day. Have for multiple seasons now. No new version number, downloads and installs in an instant. As soon as I launch the game, bam another patch available, update, relaunch, patch available, so on and so on.
I’m downloading it now but it’s a really slow download for some reason?
And if we are really lucky theres an unexpected error and we have to download the whole game plus the patch.

My post was mostly a joke. If remember correctly it already happened that after a predownload we had to download again the season patch shortly after.
Most of the time, the updates go smoothly for me. Download speed of is always good giving me the possibility to play just a couple of minutes after the season unlocks. From my personal experience, I cannot complain for how the patches and fixes are managed by Blizzard.
Others might have a different experience

i had to change my download limit for prerelease content in order for it to speed up. Pc user.

Ultima 4 was on bigger discs. Technology waits for no Avatar.
I went from admiring the 3.5 floppy, to hating it, to having it cause Im old.

As of 7:22 DST battlenet says s12 is in 41 hrs 37 min 4 sec
They normally released things on Tues. Then recently started some seasonal events on Thur and now starting a season on Wed. The other odd thing is that battle net says 41 hrs, inside the game it says season is over in 1 day which would be 24 hrs or less not 41 hrs.
I got the “Pre-release content downloaded.” But, I’m still on Patch 2.5.3.70356.
Forgive me if this is typical of D4. But, it does say in the Season of Slaughter Blog:
Patch 2.6.0 is available for early download on March 9 at 10 a.m. PT…
