The Pass Through enemies, like in D3.hint:ENEMIES ARE MATTER TOO

yes, because as you recall on D2 or D1 you couldn’t just walk THROUGH an enemy like he was some HOLOGRAM! you had to go around them. and in D3 and as i see on D4 as well.

I"m not talking about the silly skill “PASS through bla bla”
I’m talking about passing through solid matter, as if it wasn’t matter. which ruins the experience. to me. stop, before you react as an automatic polarity automaton, think is that a feature you REALLY want, or perhaps the immersion is more important to you?

am I the only one that it ruins the whole immersion for him because of this?
you are supposed to be this powerful hero who obliterates enemies, but instead you just walk through them. isn’t that like SUPER counter immersive?
when i’ve played the beta it wasn’t that noticeable. but with hoards of enemies…pretty much D3?

does this bother anyone???

echo echo…

You can’t simply walk through enemies in D3 unless you have a skill, item or buff that allows you to do so.

Do you mind having your facts straight before you complain?

It’s the same for D4 you literally need a skill to do it and sorc needs a legendary item.

I’ll correct it- what i mean is that you can PASS THROUGH ENEMIES , whether you get hit or not, i don’t care. SINCE WHEN YOU CAN PASS THROUGH PEOPLE??? or MATTER for that.

hope that’s clearer now.

Not clear…are you saying you dont like the specific abilities that allow you to pass through enemies because generally you can’t in this game.

I’ve examplified D2 and D1. you can’t pass through matter in these games. well perhaps in whirlwind you could- but that’s another complaint i have against that. you shouldn’t be able to do that.
there is matter and there is space.

in with D3 they wanted VOLUME 11 spinal tap, so they put infinite number of enemies, like a white dwarf in a condensed space, instead of how usually matter behaves in space.

you shoulnd’t be able to pass through matter. period.

it baffles me how I am the only one who this bothers him.

p.s.
as I recall from the betas and slam, you couldn’t pass through them.
but with whirlwind you can. and it looks like with other skills you defy space and matter too. which is fine-but not WALKING THROUGH THEM. like we’ve seen from these last obscene videos we’ve seen from rob.

D3 Illusory Boots: :boot: You may move unhindered through enemies.

Why does this fantasy game defy the law of general relativity? Unacceptable.

After playing Warhammer Online where you couldn’t run through enemies in PvP which made body blocking something you could use to your advantage it greatly pained me to go back to WoW where you could just run through everyone.

Didn’t really notice it in this game. Except with spells like Blood Mist that allow you to become unstoppable and move through things I did find myself getting stuck when mobs would surround me. Are there a lot of abilities that allow you to move through enemies?

You could teleport in Diablo 1 and 2.

why does this contradicts this:

yeah so why don’t you just read a book?
for that matter, why put rules at all?
we could just have puppets and invent our own games.

sure. very acceptable. :person_facepalming:

I’m not sure either, i think they actually do block you,and you can’t pass through them. but whirlwind is a physical skill…and here it’s like an archon skill, like you are in a parallel universe hitting them from other dimension…I mean if that was the intention-make it like that…

Oh, I see. I understand now. You are not understanding the concept of ethereal.

Ethereal lets you pass through objects. This is a game play mechanic to let you move through enemies. Your body becomes Ethereal (to pass though monsters) but no immune to damaging effects.

You must have never played D3 or D4.

In both games you need a specific affix to be able to walk through enemies.

well i hope i’m mistaken then.

Ummmm… its an imaginary world with magic and stuff that defies our physics … and you don’t like that??? sigh

If you are looking for like an in-game understanding of how it makes sense from a physics stand point, I mean, it’s because these skills make you Ethereal.

Otherwise, if you mean from a game mechanics reason it’s because it helps you to get into more favorable positions but not completely avoid all damage.

If there is some other reason, I just have no idea.

what do you mean? as in why do i care?
because i hate the D3 feel of paper dolls feel. I want to feel the mass of myself and other enemies. otherwise where’s the impact here?

it’s not clear in this game and in D3 as well, if you ever played them. or seen the videos.
whirlwind for example doesn’t grant you ethereal mode. you’re not an archon(sorc skill in D3 which actually made sense!). so that’s kinda silly and very non-physical skill in a very physical build. so here’s one fact- you can pass through enemies in whirlwind. duh.

no impact. go figure, just like talking to trolls in the internet. everything passes through them and they remain in their stubborn non listening mode.sounds familiar?
do you enjoy this kind of reactive mechanism where everything passes through everything in this conversation, or would you rather have something reacting to something?

I feel like this mechanism represent this whole poor generation…

Oh, Okay, with whirlwind you can assume that the barbarians mass is actually moving the enemy and sometimes catching the enemy into the whirlwind.

I would also say that because it is a game, physics simulations just are not going to be important to this type of game and it would take away from the rest of the game if they had to create a physics engine and debug it just for this sort of physic behavior.

They could have had it where you are whirlwinding in place but I feel that is less interesting, game-wise. Being able to pass through the enemies allows you to deal damage to more enemies.

Also, just think about that it’s not a perfect simulation but a video game with specific rules meant to play as a game and not be a simulation of real life.

again, it’s not about that at all. the opposite, it’s about entertainment value. when you pass through enemies the impact is much less felt. obviously you can pass through more enemies, but they could have implanted it somehow, if they really wanted to. I mean the technology and budget are basically infinite in this version, unlike D2, which had whirlwind “ethereal”. if you take the time and look at what happens to the enemies being “whirlwinded” they just stay in place while you just like ethereally pass through them, there is no sense of power or impact. that’s why it’s not about realism at all. it’s about giving us a sense of power. when everything feels paperdoll, your feel of the game will be paper doll, not real masses. would you rather feel you can hit a giant goatman with your whirlwind and see him getting slashed and crumble, or backed up abit, or let him stay in place like a paper doll?

What is life like with such long arms? Or is it just temporary for trying to reach this far?
