The LAG = $20 or less

Before I go off on my Rant I will say I enjoy the story, and the new build system is not New player friendly. I had to watch videos to understand how to make my character do more damage. If the goal of this game is for hardcore/Vets only then you can stay the course, but if you plan to pull new players the build system needs work, or at the very least a very detailed tutorial as you play. Sorry to the haters who will comment, but if a new player has to watch a video to understand how something works in a video game then I would call that a fail design.

Now for the Rant. The LAG for Diablo 4 is so bad that it can happen even on the lowest settings. If I change any settings I can only do it before clicking start. If I try changing any thing while playing, the game will crash, and I have to start the game up again. Just that alone keeps making me want to play less. When I started looking up what settings cause the most lag many said to turn off cross play. Glad my friends don’t play on other platforms. When a new player has to look up/search for settings on the internet I would call that a major fail with the video game. its very clear the game was not ready, and needed time, but companies need to get their products out to make money. We get it. The lag was the first thing I notice when I first clicked start compared to the beautiful effects, story, monster look, and characters. The lag is the biggest turn off so far for this video game. I already expect nerfs, buffs, new stuff, and so on.

The next time you guys do a sit down for a video please make it clear what your goals are for this video game. Make it clear for new players if this game going by a meta, or by our own style.

Overpower confused me as new player.
Vulnerable confused me as a new player.
Willpower confused me as a new player.

All other stats I understand from the other Diablo video games.
Out of all my points please please fix the lag.

Now for all the hater comments, the Disagree comments, the I know more comments, and troll comments. Type away. This is just feedback I am posting.

They have made it clear their goals for the game. Make as much $$$ as possible as quickly as possible and manipulate the statistics so they keep their jobs.

Anything else is a by-product of this or by chance. Just keep shelling out the cash and posting on the forums.

Not sure what they have done to this game, it used to be perfectly playable for me with some lag spikes, however now it’s completely unplayable. Here are my PC specs, i7 1440k, 64Gb DDR5, game installed on an nVME, RTX 4090, 1gb internet speed, PC wired straight into the router. Completely unplayable, it’s mind boggling.

Lag free on my PS5p, and even my portal with remote play for that matter.

Sounds like a you issue. Probably gpu drivers. This is why console master race cannot and will not fail.

What does lag have to do with $20?

I have a pretty mid computer and the game runs smooth as butter.

Are you connected via ethernet, or trying wifi?

Have you cleaned ur pc and update the graphics cards in a while?

I’ve never experienced an issue and have a pretty standard setup

If it interests you to elaborate… some Q’s:

  • what do you mean by “new build system”?
  • what’s your build?
  • are you referring to the skill tree being unintuitive? the paragon system? items/aspects/tempers? all of the above?

AFAIK most of the tooltips for all these things are pretty intuitive/simple… it’s just there are often hidden interactions, or some poorly defined/unintuitive descriptions that someone needs to test before explaining what it does (hence the guide industry). Some of these weird interactions, furthermore, appear to be a mystery to the devs themselves, judging by what they say when they change them (which can be many months later, which is weird).

Bruh… game launch was 1.5 years ago. I can’t ascribe performance issues to this or that timeframe - but the expansion release does seem to have brought with it frequent & recurring performance problems. I don’t think it points to “longer gestation needed” so much as to either poor QA, low testing, under-experienced coders, poorly designed engine, low staffing where it’s needed… IOW a bad internal process. Entirely aside from rushed releases.

I don’t have any lag this is a you problem

Kingpin is just bored.

its not like you could tell. As far as i know you dont even own VoH.

i dont own VoH but i will offer some ideas for you to try to isolate the “lag”

  1. if you are on pc, open a command prompt and do a ping -t 8.8.8.8 or google.com (this will give you some info of your ms to “google”. (you might be around 12-26 ms or maybe a bad ad 100ms (100ms isnt bad - its not great).

  2. play d4 (with the ping running) - when the “lag” hits, switch over to your ping window and see if the numbers go up - this will show its not actually d4 but your connection.

  3. to figure out what “path” your connection is taking, do a pathping to google and it will summarize each hop, you might be in one party of an area that might have some outages and you can see from “down detector” website if that area is having internet issues.

Or you can skip pinging google and just put in the d4 realms ip addresses, back when i was really into d4, i had all the realm ip addresses memorized since I did have “lag” sometimes and noticed if my traffic went thru chicago nodes - it seemed worse than if it took a different path

ahh found the server ip info -

so you can see from my above example - when the traffic goes from “Milwaukee” to “Chicago” there is a ** blip but the traffic takes an alternate route and its actually not bad - so if i were to load diablo 4 now - i should have a decent no lag time.

hope that helps

Now you confused everyone. I just fell over with “?!” over my head after reading this :see_no_evil:

I understood it but I work in IT, and it’s obvious by their reply they understand what a traceroute is, just not how to explain it. It’s very common in any profession though. You’ll always get the people that know what they’re doing but have a hard time teaching others.

I still havent fully recovered. Theres still a 1-legged Satyr dancing around me inside a magic mushroom elven circle to reanimate me.

Backgroundmusic: Electric Light Orchestra - Confusion :exploding_head:

sorry, i guess that looks overwhelming. I was just showing as an example instead of some vague generic message.

yeah im a network comm engineer that focuses on wireless and voice so sometimes i dont explain as well as my brain thinks

No joke that was my first thought when I saw your reply. Engineers have a tendency to be bad teachers, no offense to you of course. Just that most engineers are very technical, and speak as such. It’s rare to find one that doesn’t get better absorbed in their own technical jargon.

However if you need something done correctly they’re the first I’d go to.

I’m sorry for the OP’s issues, but I didn’t have lag – or at least not noticeable lag – even on my HP Pavilion laptop.

FWIW I’m not an engineer of any sort, but I had no real issue understanding Taetew’s post, & I thank him for providing it.

Crashing and lag are two different things. Are you sure you are explaining the problems correctly?

What I found was adding RAM to my system resolved all my problems. So if you have 16G of RAM or less, that could be the issue right there.

Additionally, the default setting for max fps is unlimited. But if you don’t have a 4k monitor and 4k ready video card, that setting will kill your performance. I set my max fps to 60 and that really helped too.

As far as:

That is just not true. It just takes time to understand it. If a new player wants to INSTANTLY understand how EVERYTHING works than watching videos is the obvious cheat sheet. But people started playing this game on their own without videos at some point, right? Just depends how much time you want to invest in the learning curve.

Lastly, did you start the game by playing the campaign? That has a pretty good built in tutorial, so if you skipped it, that could be why you were a bit lost at first.

I would think that is obvious, as it is the same goal as EVERY video game: engage the player base enough so they spend time and money playing it. That’s it.

You got me on that one. Overpower confused everyone, and honestly, it still does. I think of it as a super-rare crit strike and that makes it easier to understand for me, but yeah, that is definitely a dumb mechanic.

Not sure how Vulnerable or Willpower confused you though. They are pretty straightforward.

Anyway, I think it is a great game, with lots of flaws that are being improved with each iteration. Hope you stick around. If not, please don’t spend more time complaining on the forum than you did playing the actual game. That is lame.
