The higher the torment the lesser drop chance of ancestrals

This is a speculation for now but since i started leveling alts i noticed that all of them got plenty(well, enough) of ancestrals dropping on T1.

The moment i switched to T2 and T3 the starvation started and seeing ancestrals became one per multiple hours, which made me raise a brow.

For the testing below on T1 a fresh character was used and for T3 a decently geared one that i am in the process of building up.

I started testing this and my results match the expectation. 5 maidens, 5 whispers and some helltide chests, a few hellbornes and goblins on T1 resulted in 10 ancestrals.
Similar activities in T3, which offers more loot etc, resulted in 0 ancestrals.

I also inspected my early drops on my barb that sat in T1 for over a week grinding paragon and gear and have multi GA items on her, a full box of it.

Ofc me testing for a couple of hours can be just rng being rng with me. But it still feels like a pattern. It might also be related to the fresh character vs the character that has played plenty already.

To be clear, i am personally fine with the ancestral drop rates being low, makes the chase and grind feel worthy instead of handing everything over. Just trying to figure out if higher torments are actually bugged or not.

Anyone else has a similar experience?

There is no bug. If you pay attention, you can quickly notice that everywhere in the game where rng is involved, it’s not real rng, there is more going on.

Everything depends on your profile.

I’ve noticed a pattern with obols gamble. This is with a sample size of around half a million or more obols. At T4 you are less likely to get a non-unique ancestral legendary than on T1. I believe this is because higher torment tiers means it is more likely to roll a unqiue vs non-unique.

Oh absolutely you are right on that part.
Nobody on earth can convince me that tempering, masterworking and enchanting are not heavily weighted by some master plan algorithm that checks the meta, your build and rolls the thing you are most likely not gonna need, again and again and again.

I would also believe that drops are reduced based on gameplay time or simply higher torments are reduced to compensate for speed and quantity.

I would really like a statement from blizz on that one. Remember the CM stating that nothing is weighted on some campfire chat, smiling and everything. And this season the weights are so obvious that it gets annoying. I lately say out loud that i will masterwork the same passive that i dont need on a unique, see it roll 5 times in a row and just cringe.

I am all in for rng and rare things. But what i described above is dirty manipulation.

Good post! I already noticed this in season 4. When you character was still fresh, you found a lot of good GA gear. Then, after the honeymoon phase where your character and gear progressed, you were lucky to find one meaningful gear upgrade per week. It is probably due to an alogrithm to keep you playing longer chasing for items. But it leaves a bad taste when you can feel the artificial algorithm influence.

This is widely know in team building/card collecting sport game modes. There people report all of the time that you practically get punished for playing a lot meaning your odds of getting good player cards decrease, while new accounts have good luck so they get hooked.

This is also what happens when a company lacks integrity. You start to over scrutinize and question everyyything.

It’s so funny! When I made a Flay Barb last season, I never got Flay duration! This season I dabbled with a Frenzy Barb for fun and the only thing I ever got was Flay duration instead of Frenzy.

And for good reason, rng in this game is 100% weighted, the more you play the more you realize it

There’s a reason they don’t make those rng numbers public after all…

I dont have a problem getting the stats i need when tempering :face_with_monocle:

Maybe Tempering RNGsus makes a karma check.
I pet animals in the cities every day and say hello/greetings to other people i see at events.

This answer alone grants you 6 months bad luck while tempering

There are about 5 million posts on this forum and Reddit where people complain about tempering, and here you are with over 3000 forum posts feeling the need to state that you are lucky. Wooooow.

For real, 5 minutes on this forum and I always think I shouldn’t have logged in. It’s the same every time. The most boring and naive people come at you with thousands of posts on their accounts.

So you don’t think it’s possible players have varying experiences with tempering?

Oh my… here you haz a hug :hugs:

Oh my God, leave me alone with those stupid questions. It’s so obvious that it is about the proportion and not about individual cases who are so lucky.

I’m ok with accounts like you freezing me out. I’m fine without this forum.

Alright alright jeez no need to have a temper tantrum.

I guess you are freezing out yourself. Nobody means you any harm here.

Did you hack my pc or have a camera installed in my living room? How can you now my emotional intensity? Should I call the cops?

absolutely agree. When I was using my puncture rogue, subterfuge tempering would 75% of the time give me rolls of “next attack after entering stealth” when I wanted “damage per dark shroud”.

Since I swapped to DoK, all I get is “damage per dark shroud” instead of “next attack after entering stealth”.

It is absolutely infuriating. There is no way its not weighted depending on changing factors. I am ready to flip my desk.
