The good and the bad of the campfire chat

The good :

1 - changes to loot seem positive
2 - addressing the gem fragments and legendary rune issues was needed.
3) borrowed powers seem fun and to have some immersion

The bad:

  1. Nerfs to overpower - I’m not saying overpower wasn’t a problem - but they killing of the best builds without giving us anything to replace them - all this does is weaken us. That isn’t fun, it will just slow down the game even more. This is doubling down on the S8 issues.

  2. Borrowed powers again (good and bad).

Not address:

  1. Bad boss fight design
  2. duping and RMT
  3. Masterworking and tempering

All told I’m not that excited for the new season - I think it will prove to be a slog. I gave up on this season after 70 hours, shortest playtime for a season yet for me - and I can’t see me lasting even that long in s9 if they press on with the nerfs to player power - they haven’t learnt a thing since that disastrous nerf patch. And, I’m sorry, but dev’s have no right to sit there telling me what is fun and what isn’t - fun is subjective, but clearly there are a lot of people who enjoy being able to dominate the game, and I’m one of them - if I wanted to struggle i would play POE.

Overpower had to change. It was not only dominant, it was causing builds to do strange things in order to achieve it, because unlike scalers like Crit and Vuln it wasn’t commonly available.

It’s not all doom and gloom if they do this right. They can bring overpower in line with other scalers in this manner, and then when they have those in balance relative to each other they can adjust the monster health to bring the game level to the appropriate place.

I’m not saying they are going to do that, though, as the simplest solutions tend to evade this crew for a surprisingly long time. We’re still getting this sort of indecisiveness campfire to campfire on the overall power level of the game. Is T1 the true endgame? Is T4 aspirational content for the 10%? By their actions, it’s clear they want to further slow down progression as this is another major nerf patch, but their words often don’t match. Spiritborn is maybe the best example of this. They say it’s weak, relative to the other classes, yet there’s nothing in the patch notes to remedy this. Is everything else being brought down to its level? I don’t know, and I wonder if they do, either.

I mean you could make the other stuff more relevant and let overpower stay the same.

There’s a lot of ways to skin this cat and it doesn’t mean having to change overpower.

i am a sorc player and actually quite relieved when the devs put an end to lightning spears.

hope the overpowered fans here can let it go and adapt to the brand new gameplay. :relieved:

If they kill OP builds then you are free to do whatever you enjoy. Are you afraid of being free?

I’m not denying it is beneficial to change overpower - but the planned change is wrong. The simple fact is most of the players we see running around right now are making use of overpower?

Why?

Because this is the game play they want and find fun.

In burying overpower, and not giving us anything in return, they have ruined that fun - and, to be honest, to sit through a campfire chat being told by dev that his definition of ‘fun’ is what I have to enjoy is a little insulting.

If they look at the player base and what builds are most popular they will see that the vast majority of us want to crush the game, not crawl through at a slow pace - how is giving players what they want bad for the game? And how is taking away what so many enjoy good for the game?
