Dear Blizzard, Dear Diablo IV Team,
I am not writing this to stress the “D4 bad” meme. I am not writing this to hate on the game. On the contrary, I love this game. One of the Christmas presents for my girlfriend was a Hoody with a sketch of the two of us playing Season 6 of D4 (me as Necro, her as Spiritborn).
I am, however, writing this because this is the first season that I do not see myself buying the season pass, because I cannot even see myself reaching level 60.
But first, let me emphasize the relevance of this post. I am a programmer who spends an unreasonable amount of money on technical/electronic hobbies. I have a 4k€ PC (on which I mainly play HotS & FPS), I have every console you can think of (except Xbox lul). I have recently bought a PS5 Pro to have a second PS5 for my girlfriend when she is at her place (though most of the time, we play couch coop games). As I mentioned before, I have bought every season pass of D4 and its most expensive edition and its expansion.
In short, I am THE target audience for this game! I am a casual gamer who spends a stupid amount of money on video games.
Now the reason WHY I am writing this post:
I think the game is in a fine spot when it comes to class balancing and season mechanics. HOWEVER, the game is literally unplayable for console couch coop players. Here are the four most despicable points:
4 - When I start the town portal, the fps drop to ~10 fps. Don’t tell me something like “lul consoles etc.etc.”. This has not been a problem in Seasons 1-6! This is an extremely uncomfortable bug.
3 - My girlfriend and I are both playing necro. When one reaches their max amount of sceletons, the other cannot summon any more sceletons. Typically, she is stuck with 1 warrior or mage, and when she presses the summon button, she buffs the two minions she is having… Again, THIS WAS WORKING IN SEASONS 1-6! How TF do you mess this up? It is a game-breaking bug!
2 - There are numerous posts about the problem of TOO MUCH USELESS CRAP loot. I do not have to reiterate this. But imagine the fun we are having in couch coop with the loot of two people on the screen without the ability to click on the piece you want to pick up… It is unbearably painful. We have stopped picking up any loot - even legendaries - because it is impossible with ~20 blue items lying around.
A potential fix: there is some kind of routine that generates loot. Implement a condition so that when you drop a blue item, instead drop blue salvage mats. When you drop a yellow item, instead drop yellow salvage mats, etc. There can be an easy option in the menu to determine the rarity to which this applies.
What really puzzles me is the fact that I can come up with a bandage solution for this in ~5 min, and I would guess it takes about a day to implement without having any idea about the Blizz Code. Since Blizzard doesn’t seem to have the programming capacities to implement stuff like a loot filter, please give us at least a workaround!
1 - Since the launch of Season 7, we are UNABLE TO SCROLL THROUGH ITEM DESCRIPTIONS!!! HOW TF SHOULD WE DECIDE ON WHICH ITEMS TO KEEP WHEN WE CAN’T EVEN LOOK AT THE LEGENDARY ASPECT?!
HOW DO YOU MESS THIS UP?! THIS IS A CORE UI ELEMENT THAT WAS WORKING FOR YEARS!!!
I have a strong opinion that Blizzard is not testing the game from a couch coop player standpoint. Honestly, we are heartbroken about the current state of the game, and we do not see us picking the game back up until at least SOME of these points are fixed.
