I’ve seen a dozen different formulas online for Overpower damage and it seems there’s no consensus on the formula actually used in game. After some research and careful reading of the descriptions in the game, I think I’ve come up with a formula close to the game’s formula. TL;DR Overpower damage sucks because it seems to be tacked on after all other damage calculations.
The proposed equation:
All other damage calculations + Overpower Damage
Overpower Damage formula
(current Life + Fortify) * (100% + [weapon dmg % inherited by skill])
+ (Overpower Damage Bonus) * (base skill damage)
Example Scenario based on my Druid:
current Life: 6500
Fortify: 3500
Rank 12 Pulverize (thanks to +ranks from gear): [105%]
Base Skill Damage: ~20k
Overpower Damage Bonus: 554.6%
Part 1 of the equation...
(current Life + Fortify) * (100% + [weapon dmg % inherited by skill])
(6500 + 3500) * (100% + [105%])
(10,000) * (205% or 2.05) = 20,500
Part 2 of the equation...
(Overpower Damage Bonus) * (base skill damage)
(554.6% or 5.546) * (18,170-22,208 or ~20k) = 110,920
Overall damage
All other damage calculations + (20,500 + 110,920)
All other damage calculations + (131,420)
Then reduce the total damage by the enemy’s damage reduction based on their level.
Some information.

Overpower Chance in-game description
- When you cast a Skill, it has a chance to Overpower all of the damage it deals.
(This means all damage caused by the skill will gain the Overpower status effect) -
Overpowers deal bonus damage based on the sum of your current Life and Fortify.
(The first of two parts of the Overpower formula, which gets added to the 2nd part) - The bonus damage dealt scales with the Skill that Overpowered.
(This could mean it scales with the skill’s damage, rank, or inherited percentage) - Damage over time, passive abilities, and Channeled Skills cannot Overpower.
- Your chance to Overpower cannot increase as a basic stat, but they can be guaranteed by specific effects.
Overpower Damage in-game description
- Extra damage granted to Skills when they Overpower.
- Stacks with the bonus damage inherently granted to Overpowers based on your current Life and Fortify.
(Basically says this bonus damage gets added to the 1st part’s bonus damage) - The bonus damage dealt (from this part of the formula) scales with the Skill that Overpowered.
- Has a base value of 50.0%.
