The Forbes Interview

So, i have been reading the Forbes interview with Shely and Ferguson, and what can i say, basically we are being told that the first season is gonna be ‘small’ (another word for no content) and not to expect to much.
Basically they are telling us to wait for Season 2?
So. They already admit that the first season will have little to no new content, and put us into the Hamsterwheel of waiting another three months, for then ‘Diablo will be really awesome, i promise, really really.’

Quote:
“From a management of expectations perspective,” Fergusson said, “when we talk about how the launch of Diablo 4 is the beginning, not the end because we have a live service, that’s one of the things people should think about with seasons as well…The reality is, this is our first season that we built while shipping [Diablo 4] at the exact same time…This is the beginning of our seasonal journey in terms of where we can go from here.”

Yeah. Grinding a whole new character does really look tempting when even the people responsible tell you that its probably not worth it.

But… every Diablo games first season was trash. I honestly expected it. Good thing you can choose not to use your battle pass from your preorders on the first season huh?

They had no right to release this game in this state. Ferguson sold us a lemon to make money for his bosses. I hope MSFT fires him.

it also clearly contradicts what they themselves had stated not long before release about game having 2 seasons all done and full content designed for, and an expansion too (how so, if they were working at first of those ever while shipping vanilla at the exact same time? lol). they must be in panic mode and have confusion, perhaps don’t always know or remember who said what but they have to send someone out and say something after all, putting hands ahead, in preparation for the critics they know they are going to get for perfectly known reasons by now.

Hi, I just asked a minute ago, in the Discord Diablo 4 server that I’m in, everyone has default “member” role so ignoring all the other roles, there are 288 people total and currently 104 people online. Of those 104 online, that actually bothered to read my message which was a simple question of if this is the first Diablo for anyone. Within two? three minutes of asking and me typing a response to you here, 8 people said it was.

Point is, just because you, myself included here, understands how it “typically goes” (pretty said this is the typical routine eh? it should be better) does not mean everyone who purchased it knows this.

What about those who have no idea how it “typically goes” should they not play? I’ll be honest, heck with some questions ask in that discord I wondered if they should even be using a computer but that’s a different topic.

Point is, there are a lot of people who have no idea how things are. Who might not know Season 1 is rubbish and use their battle pass … yeah I’m confident you know where this is going.

I don’t care for seasons but I don’t like what they are doing for people who bought the game for seasons. They should give everyone first season free as it is not even a full season. But I don’t own Blizzard so … you get what you get.

Its not there fault, the janitor who is also the lead affix coder/designer and a developers nanny who doubles as the itemisation lead had pre-booked holidays so havent been able to add anything to season one. They’re back, hard at work making season two the chonkiest season to date (please buy the season two battlepass)

Ignorance is never an excuse though. In law, in life or in purchases made. I mean that may be a “jerk” thing to say but it’s absolutely true. If I buy a product and it doesn’t do what I want it to do but it was never advertised to do what I wanted it to do then that is egg on my face not the maker’s fault.

We are talking 26 years of a series. Plenty of info on this series and game online.

Horrible take. 20 char

Are all 1000 of your posts this full of cope or is this a unique one?

You do not need to pay a penny to play Seasons, do the Season Journey milestones, or do the Battlepass and get some of the cosmetics, XP buff for the Season, etc. Those are part of the game you already paid for. The Legendary and Uniques released with the Patch will be on the Eternal Realm immediately, they are not limited to Season only.

Paid Battlepass is for Cosmetics only. You can also pay to skip some of the Battlepass milestones to finish and reach a cosmetic you want faster - but you can’t access any of the actual power like XP buff by skipping.

People who bought the Ultimate Edition can wait for a future Season to use their Cosmetic Battlepass on one where they think they will enjoy the mechanics, and also where they like the Cosmetic rewards.

Again, Seasons are free. People can dabble in Season one, skip Season 1, or do whatever they want.

You’re right. I hope MSFT clears the entire dev team and replaces them. Not just the lead.

You’re absolutely right! Sorry.

That is now how MSFT handles acquisitions of game studios. The corporate suits should be worried, esp Bobby Kotick. MS does not mess with the day to day business of the actual game makers.

Further, it is King and CoD they wanted. I don’t think Blizzard is even much of a Blip on their radar in the financial picture.

I bet they made the game and designed it with malignant gems included.
Or with WT5…but then it wasn’t balanced and rushed.

I wonder how many problems will go away just from having the 3 boring seasonal gems. Like barbs not being able to do nigh NM dungeon without weird infinite bleed dmg tricks (apparently).

Wait wait wait…you can chose to not activate paid battle pass in season 1?

I want blizzard to release high quality games that help me make good memories with my friends again. If kotick is replaced I would be so happy.

Maybe? I don’t find a $100 game to cause difficulty or hardship on my life so it’s not exactly “coping” to me.

Yep!!! You can wait to use the Paid Cosmetic BP on a Season you like better and prefer the Cosmetics of. The rest of the Season is part of the game you already paid for. Season Journey, Battlepass with some cosmetics and the Season buffs (XP boost), etc are all part of the base game. Only the cosmetics are paid, and you can use that on whatever Season you want.

In fact, I am sure some will be confused that it is not automatically activated an they have to go to the Shop and intentionally use it.

If you purchased the digital Deluxe or Ultimate Edition of Diablo IV and want to redeem your Battle Pass for this Season, navigate to the Seasons section of the Shop and select the option to activate your Battle Pass.

I think everyone wants the giant tick, Kotick, gone. The part about making good memories with friends is bittersweet. Sort of like trying to recapture childhood. I wish you luck doing that. It is like chasing ghosts to recreate lost memories and times gone by.

I feel as though that’s a bit of a mischaracterization of what they’re trying to say. What they’re saying is that it’s better to start small and then expand, which I think makes sense. Doing too much all at once runs the risk of the game being oversaturated and bloated.
