I’m playing a fire mage, which I know got nerfed into oblivion. I’m not changing to an OP build or champ because of bad design. It defeats the purpose of having so many classes and builds.
Anyway, what I really wanted to talk about was the out of control elite affixes in NM dungeons. I just failed a NM dungeon for the first time ever because I was stacked with at least 6 elites in a room with multiple stuns plus self-healing. I could barely make a dent before getting stun locked and having the elites heal a bunch. I was down to my last revive when I finally made it through only to find another group that stun locked me and killed me.
The game says I failed the dungeon. No, the devs failed to balance the game. I do not know how else to explain it. You cannot give enemies infinite stuns and heals. And roll back the fire sorcerer nerfs until you figure out how to do it right. You totally destroyed them for any all fire build. How are tanks doing far more damage than me?
Sounds like your gear may be letting you down.
Binding Embers will help with mobility.
Lots of Damage is great but the higher you go you’re going to need to pay attention to your defensive buffs as well. It might seem strange to Mighty-Meta-Warriors to run a Sorcerer without Teleport but it can be done easily with the right Defensive buffs complementing each other as you’re offensive stats no doubt do already.
You need to pay attention to the modifiers in the Nightmare Dungeon as well. Some of them will completely nerf your “get out of jail free” skills. Don’t do that dungeon, do a different one.
I do pay attention to the NM modifiers, and I don’t do ones that counter me too much. I have 4 evade charges plus teleport (which I really don’t want). Stun locked is stun locked.
I already feel like I’m being forced too much into a tanky build. It’s not what a sorcerer is supposed to do. And I would be really helpless against vampiric elites if I had to give up all my damage for tankiness. But I do agree that some of my gear is bad. I’ve been T4 and in the 80’s for a while, and I haven’t found better gear for a lot of my pieces. I don’t know why.
Also, as I mentioned in another thread, the totals from defensive jewels don’t show. I can’t tell how effective they are or how they are stacking.
Add to that the fact that resistances are known to be broken, and it’s one of the main benefits of the sorcerer’s core skill (Intelligence), and it’s “feels bad” from so many angles.
Mighty meta eh? Any sensible person would keep teleport for CC breaker alone. Especially in HC, thats your “Oh shi” button. And as op says they are getting cc’ed. People complain about CC but dont use CC breakers… well…
It Has nothing to do with meta.
Also you mention modifyers that Nerf your “get out of jail free card” Even if it’s nerfed. its not disabled. yeah the mods can increase cooldowns from what ive seen… but tell me one that fully disables it? This is where logical thinking comes into to play.
Yeah Teleport is not your only option for CC breaker so no it’s not needed if you feel other skills compliment your non-Mighty-Meta-Warrior build.
And all joking aside, you might like a build that’s gone Mighty-Meta-Warrior. So what, play what you enjoy.
Check out the Diablo4.life website and their Gambling Aspects tool. It will show you the best path to getting the aspects you need (i.e. While gambling for a Barbarian Sweater with Heal for X for each close enemy… you might have a 1 in 20 chance of getting that drop… where as a Necromancer gambling for pants with this aspect might have a 1 in 7 chance. i.e. better odds. Therefore farm your Obels, swap to your Necromancer and gamble on pants. Pull the aspect. Drop it in your Tickle Trunk and swap to your Barbarian and infuse it to an Amulet for the 50% bonus.
I’m just curious, what NM tier did this take place?
Also, have you tried using topaz in your armor’s sockets?
edit
AND! Are you playing on a console? If so, you can take advantage of the target lock on.
I play as a fire sorc as well. My build is balanced between CC damage and defense. When playing 60+ NM Dungeons with groups, Initially, I tend to sit back and cast from afar, but after my team grabs agro, I jump in and stun for a better damage multiplier.
If I’m playing solo (usually 50-55 and I can probably go higher, but haven’t had the time), it’s all about offscreen targeting and utilizing my CC, to keep the monsters at bay.
It was a level 30 NM, which should not be too hard for me to solo at all. It’s RNG as far as how difficult the elites are. The bosses are so wimpy in comparison.
I should also note that my build has a fair amount of survivability in it. I heal for each nearby burning enemy, and I have life on kills. Neither help if I’m faced with almost unkillable enemies or if I’m stunned to death.
I’ve tried stacking topaz. Again, what I said above, I’m not sure how it’s stacking because it isn’t shown.
I have tried target lock but it is clunky with very large groups of enemies. I created another thread to talk about the aiming problems with sorcerers, which compounds problems like this.
Normally with crowds of elites, I can pull them together with my ult and then slam them with meteors. As with so many things, this doesn’t work against instant stuns. The stuns don’t have counter play either. It’s not like I can wait them out and choose my moment.
Im between tossing Shadow Step cause it feels meta-y and cliche, and keeping it for that sweet sweet Unstoppable with a topping of damage that is delicious. And the mobility after taste. Mmmm
No idea what the metas are for the record, just typing out my butt.
I take it at face value. I have 5 royal topaz, so that’s 50% less damage while under crowd control. It’s probably less than that (I wish the stat page truly reflected actual values), but I’ll take it. I’ve read other people’s comments on the subject and I agree, “if you never come close to dying, but when you do, it’s because you’re CC’d”…
So you do play on a console? Enable “Persist Target Lock”. Then try reassigning Lock Target to L3. Then you can reassign “Show Item Labels” to R3.
Now you’ll enable/disable target lock on, by pressing L3. What you’ll want to do, is while there’s no enemies on screen, move one direction. Off screen, as soon as a monsters close enough, you’ll lock onto them, before you grab agro. You get first strike.
Eh… i saw some stuff and i already know what im going for. Clifford the big red bear. https://youtu.be/ULeSmuihguk?t=654 Seriously going to try this… just because of him calling it precisely that name.
But yeah I’m always game to team up… i really dont do it much lol. have some people on my friends list… i just need ta delete. lol
I’m not sure how to make “stun locked” any clearer. It will not matter how many shields I have or how often I can use them if I cannot press any buttons. Even slows are way too much. I have reducers, and they seem to do nothing.
The aspect they are referencing is called alluding aspect. It’s gives you 4 seconds unstoppable when not healthy, so if you get stun locked when you are close to dead you have 4 seconds to bail out and heal yourself.
