Sunday I got to play with friends. I didn’t know it would become part of a experiment, so I can’t give exact numbers… we did tons of lower bosses, and ran Duriel somewhere between 60-75 times. From Duriel, I got 3 Mythics, and upgraded one Unique, and saw about 4 Legendary runes. All on T3.
We didn’t run Andariel or Harbinger ('cuz nobody wanted that frustration), so I had a TON of mats for soloing today. Again no exact numbers, but I had ~2.5 stacks of Andariel mats and just over a full stack for Harbinger. That’s over 100 runs worth.
And I ran them all solo today. Also T3.
Totals:
- Mythics: ZERO
- Upgrades to existing Uniques: ZERO
- Legendary Runes: TWO.
- Average Ancestrials seen: ZERO to TWO (so ONE)… per FULL INVENTORY!
Yes, I know, drop rates would be better in T4. BUT:
- T4 is supposed to be “ASPERATIONAL”, not “absolutely necessary to see any resonable drops”.
- How the heck am I supposed to gear up for T4 if drop rates are this bad in T3!?
Yes, I know, I could just ONLY do bosses in groups. BUT:
- No. Gouping should not be manditory, but the piddly drops for solo bossing kinda creates that scenario.
- I’m not lobying for no increased drops for groups. I’m asking for much better (but still slightly less than in groups) drops for solo play.
Your solo players exist, Blizz. First T4 is only for 10% of players, now boss farming is (functionally) only for groups? Jebus!!

Probably more likely that drop rates are off for the upper ladder unless it’s that bonus box from grouping that is juiced

I had this experience with Belial at lair bosses.
In a group of 3 he occured 3 of 5 runs. Solo it was never that often.
Actually drop rates do not increase based on level, T1 drop rate is the same as T4.
Immunity phases, ground covered in one-shot mechanics, less loot for the same material expenditure in groups, this has been the Season of Fail.

I have accumulated over 10 shards from salvaging mythics. I have more than 5 different mythics stashed (multiple duplicates) and several equipped on alts.
Mythics drop plentifully in T4 compared to previous seasons, imo. I didn’t play S7, so I can’t comment on that.
Also, you can gear for T4 very easily with all the normal activities. You don’t need lair bosses. But if your build is subpar and off-meta, meaning your performance is markedly worse than meta builds, then of course you’re going to come here complaining.
I will grant the complaint that build balance for T4 is horrible. But your boss drop experience, PFTT… I scoff at you.
Correct, the only thing torment difficulty does is increase the amount of loot that is given. Which, in a sense, does improve odds, but not drastically. Just 1-3 extra RNG rolls on if it ends up being a mythic, but it’s still the same % chance per each drop across all difficulties.
That’s simply not true. Check the description of the Torment Tiers in game:
“Increased Lengendary, Unique and Mythic Unique items per Torment tier.”

What it means it how many extra loot is given per torment, not the drop rate %. I don’t remember the number off the top of my head. T1 boss drop is, I think, 2 per chest, while T4 is 5 per chest.

That’s still a better drop rate (as in drops per run, or per hour)… It’s just achieved through more loot dropped, as opposed to percent chance per item dropped.
My point stands, there are better drops in higher world tiers. If not, then Blizz has a false advertisement lawsuit on their hands based on the in-game tier descriptions.
As I did state above in an earlier post, it’s only a slight boost to getting mythic if we want to go that route. Having 2-3 extra drops will be an improvement. (1-2 More in the group). However, it still does the same % drop rate roll per each loot. That part doesn’t change; it’s still the same X% per drop in T1 versus T4. So it comes down to how good your RNG is in the end, even if you are given extra loot drop.

I suspect that each person who opens the chest has an individual chance to spawn belial, resulting in more spawns for larger parties.
I did wonder how that part worked in a group, especially when you calculate the blessing. Does it take only the person with the highest % chance of the group, or does it do an average of the group? If people haven’t finished off that blessing.

2- It didn’t become an experiment until about 25 runs in and I started really noticing that the differnce between running in a group the night before, and my experience soloing, wasn’t just a string of bad luck. So yeah, admittedly, not uber scientific.
3- Yeah, I know, there’s more than just bosses. But last I checked, bosses were supposed to be one of, if not THE, best ways to farm loot and should be a viable option even when soloing. Heck, I’m not even saying boss drops are bad in totality, just absurdly low for (again) soloing.
When did I complain about my power level or build? I’m quite happy with my build… I can solo T3 bosses all day (I just did so). AND I can do T4 content just fine (except for bosses).
My complaint is that (as the title says) the disparity between group and solo drop rates is insulting to solo players. I said nothing about builds, or balance, or any of that… chill, dude.

I haven’t had an opportunity to test it, since i started thinking about it. I would guess that it checks as each person opens their chest and calculates their individual chance to spawn.
If i observe it over multiple spawns, i think what i’ll see is that his dialogue starts as soon as a player meets the spawn chance… which could be the first, second, third, or fourth person… and that it won’t consistently be the same person or same sequence number.
There is no significant advantage of fighting boss in a group, as each extra player give you 33% chance for +1 gear drop. A four player party you get +1.5 gear drop, which is nothing as most likely this extra gears are trash.
T4 boss give you +1 drop over T3. The most optimum way to play is solo a T4 boss instead of grouping, as some players in your group may have a terrible build which will make the fight last much longer.
It is hard to get a good unique as Ancestor gear drop rate is low. I usually get my unique via trade, I only fight the boss to farm veil crystal.
