When the developers sit down to make decisions about Diablo 4, I wish they would ask themselves just one simple question.
Is this change going to increase enjoyment for our players?
ENJOYMENT, not ENGAGEMENT.
That’s it. If the answer is no, scrap the idea. If the answer is yes, then take that idea and build upon it. Make it better.
There are a million examples of this, but two that come to mind are:
Removing the higher mythic drop chance from most tormented bosses. Duriel and Andariel are now the only bosses worth farming, unless you need a specific non-mythic unique. Why was this change made? IS IT FUN? Before we had a ~7% chance to get a mythic from tormented bosses. Was that really too much? 7%? Considering most people are looking for a specific mythic with a specific greater affix, 7% was already way too low. To nerf it shows a real disconnection from reality.
Absolutely gimping the amount of gold from the Infernal Horde chest. Last season I could farm 100 million gold per run if I handed in 800-1000 aether to the gold chest. Now I get like 10-12 million. Why was this change made? IS IT FUN?
You need billions of gold to do endgame master working. How do you get that gold? Currently the best way to farm gold without trading seems to be boss rotations and selling all the uniques to vendors. Outside of that there’s no good way to farm gold. It’s just so boring.
You’ve basically forced us into trading to fund our crafting but you’ve given us no efficient way to trade in game. Diablo.trade sucks hard and is full of scammers, dupers and RMTers.
There are countless examples of this sort of backward thinking. Valuing engagement over enjoyment is going to ruin this game we all desperately want to love.
So please. Just ask yourselves this simple question when you go to make adjustments to the game. If you’d done this, we wouldn’t have such a huge step backwards in fun from season 5 to season 6.
Enjoyment is subjective. What YOU find enjoyable, other people may find boring or worse. So, yeah. That’s a pretty disingenuous way for you to say you want the game to cater to YOU and what YOU find enjoying.
The problem with this line of thinking is that sometimes what players think is fun is not good for the health of the game. This is aside from the fact that what players think is fun is completely subjective.
Let the devs cook, give constructive feedback. Rinse and repeat.
Playing devil’s advocate on the forum is fun, but when you’re defending things that are just dumb it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
Regardless of the subjective nature of fun, the OP hit the nail on the head that season 6 is a huge step backwards from season 5 when it comes to fun factor. My clan was a ghost town 10 days into the season. Last season it was active for at least a couple months.
Actually I have the direct opposite opinion of the OP.
Mythics should be more chase items than they have been in previous seasons.
I do not want to only run Hordes for an entire season like I did in S5.
To… YOU. I’m having the exact opposite experience. I’m not playing devil’s advocate either. I’m saying it EXACTLY how I see it. Some of you people need to get that into your head somehow, your fun does not equal everyone else’s fun. So, stop bringing up what’s fun or not over and over again. It means next to nothing.
How interesting. My clan has been exactly the opposite. People are still online playing the game.
