One thing I really love about D4, and something that I totally didn’t expect, is how much the build matters, in a good way. Some people complain about scaling and how they will never feel powerful. Well, thanks to the build tuning, you can feel OP on lvl 25. The build tuning has many parts, one of the main are of course the legendary affixes. They don’t do much by themselves, so having full lege gear doesn’t make you automatically god. But if you really put work into it, combine right legendary affixes and think about the build, change few passives, add a few other affixes, you can really tune the build to be powerful.
Its a layer of complexity I didn’t expect and which I really love, and which will make the theorycrafting that much more fun. It a big change compared to D3 with its set dependency and mandatory gear.

Compared the synergy between skills in d4, d2 synergy is a big fat joke

Well yeah, D2 synergy was added in 1.10. just to make people invest in other than lvl 30 skills…

power felt “wavy”.
i felt stronger late 19 than i did early 25 for example.
things that used to fall in one hit took up to 3
D2 synergies are a joke… was better before that.
Well yes, it is all about the continuous tuning and playing with the build. At lvl 25 you can see people struggling as well as people deleting everything. Some say barb is weak, others had no issue.
Agree, and i’ve tried it, tuning my build to the playstyle i want and thinking about how i can get the most out of it, made a huge difference. Started ranged bow rogue, worked ok, but when i got the hang of melee that was much better. Barbarian i started wanting to get the mobility, but then realized thorns was incredible, so then i went that way and it turned out to be amazing.
For sorcerer the choice of enchantment can make a huge difference in your playstyle.
And then you can factor in items…

Can’t say I agree with you at all.
D4 builds work identical to D3 build system except with less variety and less depth. A vast majority of the builds don’t work at all until you get special items that allow them to work. This is exactly how D3 worked and it often wasn’t fun.
It’s an incredibly simple system and lacks meaningful depth. It’s amazing to me that so many people are ignoring the similarities between D3 and D4 in the systems that are being presented.

Dude D2 has 23 years, you can’t compare a game released in 2000 vs 2023
Well, no. You are not forced to use particular item and particular skill to even stand a chance. It is more similar to original D3, where was BiS but you still had some choice, with added passives, more focued affixes (dmg to close, over time etc) and legendary affixes, which can be combined and moved, as you want.
So yes, it is still Diablo (who would have thought) but with more choice. Compare to D2 where you had 4 stats, with 2 being for item carrying, 1 useless and to the remaining you dumped everything else, then you had 1-2 skill choices and that was it. I wouldn’t even call that a RPG… We’ll see how it all turns out in endgame, but so far I am seeing a lot of variety.
I personally didn’t like most builds. I think that is probably the reason I wasn’t hooked like others. If they were comparable to certain builds sure but most builds I picked/tried fell short of what I was expecting from having played the crap out of D1 and D2, a good amount of time with D3 and a very short stint with D:I.
Just hoping it’s because it’s beta and they will fine tune things or because later on you will get the items/skills to make builds work. I’ve only had a small portion of the actual game to try out things that most likely will take the entire tree after hitting max and special items to feel good. Here’s to hoping.
To each their own.

Yes, I was feeling the points shortage, so I couldn’t try everything I wanted. Not even counting paragons. All I am saying is that I was pleasantly surprised, it is quite complex for a Diablo game… And quite accessible, with PoE you spent half of the day trading and few hundred exalts just to find out the build is not what you expected… It is hard to find the balance between easy enough to try and flooded with loot to the point it doesn’t matter (as was D3). We’ll see.
