I’ve played a Pulverize Druid up to level 82 and started a Druid alt whose now at level 31 and opted to skip the campaign.
My experience with The Butcher has been successfully killing him a couple of times when facing him at my level while also having my build firmly established with a meta along with aspects, gems, upgrades in place.
Just about every other situation I stand no chance. My level 82 druid now farms higher tier nightmare dungeons so every instance The Butcher appears my optimum strategy is to let go of the controller until I die and then continue playing.
So far with my level 31 druid I’ve failed 100% of the time against this foe.
That’s been my experience with one class. Maybe other classes treat the butcher like a complete joke at all stages of the game. I simply don’t know. I’m glad he vanishes upon killing you or this would be a major problem. As it stands now its just mildly annoying and a reason for me to never want to play hardcore.
Are you fine with the butcher and its current difficulty?
Do you feel he needs to be buffed further or nerfed?
Has your experience with another class been similar to mine?
Butcher was one of the very few places where the difficulty was enjoyable. The rest was just going through the motions and watching the paint dry.
Beta butcher was a monster. This butcher is weak.
I’ve yet to kill him. Thus far he has successfully killed me at the exit, trapped me in a corner when I tried to fight him, and maybe once I got away. On second thought I think I’ve died to him all three times.
If he was weak though I wouldn’t even see a point to having him, he’s a meme of the oh crap response people had when they found him in d1. I mean I’m pretty sure the joke is that you’re dead when you hear “fresh meat.”
yes, the whole game is way to easy. If you have even a little bit of a good build you faceroll everything. at 65 Im rolling through NM 10 lvls above me.
I’m sick of him because he’s not rare and constantly wastes my time. Now he’s showing up in my WT4 nm 40+ dungeons wasting even more of my time.
He needs to gtfo

I demand they nerf its spawn chance considerably.
He’s a waste of time. I don’t get excited when he shows up I just sigh and think ugh not again. I’d rather they just remove him or just make him a world boss.

Even 20 lvls higher , hes haha easy.
I now beat him every time he appears. The problem is, it takes a while to do so and it almost always happens while I am trying to do a NM dungeon. When he pops up, you have 3 choices. Die and he goes away instantly. Run and he goes away eventually. Stand and fight and it may take a while but you will beat him. The problem with the last option is that the only satisfaction that you get is beating him. There is no title. There is no trophy. There is no uber unique drop or even a decent unique drop. All I ever get from him is trash that I just sell.
If the Butcher dropped something cool then he would be a lot more fun and much less hated because he would be more than just an annoyance and a waste of time.

I’m leveling a no-minions thorns / iron maiden necromancer and a butcher 15 levels higher than me beats himself to death when I see him.
I want more.
Perhaps because the environment where you’re playing is zero demanding.
If the game had mechanisms that encouraged you to try to push your limits instead of facerolling the content, you’d be fighting challenging white monsters, hence the Butcher, being 100 times stronger than them would destroy you.

Tier 2 Butcher is overpowered for characters under level 40. You barely make a dent in him regardless of the class. If you are lucky with enough damage output you might take 1 bar out of him before he kills you. After Tier 2, Butcher is a piece of cake.
Butcher is a joke regardless of gear. The AI is stupid. Needs Line of Sight to attack. Slow turn speed, can’t react to a player walking circles around him. Blizzard giving him a Barrier and Life Steal just prolong the encounter. For Solo players, it’s a struggle for some, but still doable. In a party? One person kite while the other party members get free hits. Butcher was a good challenge in the early game. Now? He’s a waste of time.

Depends on your class, spec, and due to gear scaling whether or not you have a recent weapon drop.
Like my first ever dungeon in D4 on a level 10 barbarian in mixed blues and whites he appeared outside a boss room and I thought he was the boss and got annihilated and then wouldn’t do dungeons solo.
Currently level 85 and killed him numerous times. However…
Before 20, I’d get trashed instantly. Between then and 70, I managed to kill him quite often. But lately, I’m back to getting trashed. Though, not because of bad gear, spec, or skill, but timing. He always manages to spawn while I’m fighting three elites and a whole mob of minor mobs. I’d rather they take him out of dungeons and make him a world boss. Or, perhaps, have him periodically raze towns, giving people there a fighting chance if they gang up on him.
Btw, the Butcher should be scarier.
They should have removed all mobs before he s gonna spawn for dramatic purposes.
Imagine you crawl the dungeon wondering why there are no mobs in this section, when the dungeon starts shaking with a “Freshh Meaat” sound. And then stomping sounds getting higher toward you. Thats how the Butcher would have been epic.
But no obviously, this would require devs to actually think
So they just shoe horn the butcher between mobs, and the way you realize the butcher is there is because there is one who doesnt die so you go “oh, its the butcher”.
He mollywhopped me, it was kinda neat. I’ll get him eventually.
But…there is a trophy. You get a butcher’s cleaver for your horse. He also seems to have a higher than usual chance to drop uniques.
I like the fights with him. Loot ist worse, his trophy a bit small and his axe is sadly not for transmog - one of the coolest skins ingame.
Met him first time in NM 20 I guess in live version and still enjoying to meat him nearly every day. Would like to see more of that with other unique named dudes. Maybe as tag team fights…with demonic Hulk Hogan or something like that.
