The aspect system

I’m just wondering what is the point of the aspect system.

It is clearly inspired by Diablo Immortal among other things they’ve copied from it (world bosses, events but not the party finder mind you).

In D:I once you’ve got an aspect (extracted from a legendary), it’s in the codex for good.

In D4 some aspects (unlocked from dungeons) are in the codex but the rest which are also extracted from a legendary are usable only once ?

So the plan is to hoard aspects you need without a meaninful way of sorting them to be able to switch in your new gear ? How is this not an extra hurdle to replayability ?

The current system is a downgrade from a F2P (albeit P2W) mobile game.

Maybe I’m overreacting so please feel free to disagree.

Not disagreeing , extracted aspect should go into a codex of some sort too … that alongside making gems only take 1 space would rly help with stash space issues .

same for keys … should be a codex to put them in rather than having to hoard them up …

They turn good rares into good legendaries at the expense of a crappy legendary with a good effect. I didn’t think this needed explaining.

okay obviously but legendaries are just “rares with an aspect”

the whole system is just “on the fence” if that’s even possible that there’s almost no point in even having rares the entire game should just drop “legendaries”

Yes, extracted aspects should go in your codex. So when you find aspects with better rolls, you’re really just upgrading the aspect in your codex. The inventory system in this game is already bad, no need to make it worse. But I think that would clash too much with how they developed the game, so I don’t see it changing.

I’m fine with only the base level codex entries being shared across characters, too. The upgrades could only be for the character that updates the entry imo.

It’s madness. I can’t even log in to face my multiple characters, builds I’d love to play, Aspects, bursting stash…

Sad but highly likely.
How they developed the game, as you said, is preventing me from playing it.
I admit it’s my fault for saving too many things, not being “real” about what I’ll play or not - but between gear with amazing stats, builds I want to try and Aspects. Aspects alone take up so much space.
There really should be a more streamlined system.

I’m on the other side of the fence, i think aspect farming is kinda cool. I like the idea, if all aspects were in codex I think that the codex aspects should be like now, min roll and I have to farm better ones. Inventory and sorting and searching for aspects is an issue though, so that’s gotta get fixed.

I see someone hasn’t played D3.

I haven’t played DI, but DI likely took it from D3, where you can extract legendary powers to your Kanai’s cube, albeit with a twist in that instead of being able to imprint them on any rare/legendary, you can choose 3 powers to get the max value for that are applied to your character in addition to your gear.

DI also inherited events from D3, if they’re similar to the ones in D4.

No. DI and D4 inherited the ideas from the same place. D3. Where they’ve existed for 10 years.

Aspects are a good idea, but, in my opinion, poorly implemented. All aspects should be unlockable through dungeons and leveled up through gameplay, perhaps through extraction and imprint. I think they missed out on something big here…

my gripe with aspects is why its level is tied to the player level. Some aspects have better rolls the higher the item power are but some aspects are literally static but get locked to character lvl.

Makes it useless for alts.

For example I have perfectly rolled decay aspect but my necro alt got it at lvl 55 so its locked at 55

My main necro got the same aspect but rolled lower but is locked at lvl 100 lmao. Its a really janky setup.

Frankly I don’t understand why ALL aspects are not available as min roll in the codex once you’ve found it. I’ve been trying to get one specific Aspect for two weeks and still haven’t gotten, literally can’t do the build without it.

I am level 100.

Exactly the problem in D4. Traditionally, we get a main toon setup and farm stuff for alts. Its not that smooth in D4 and discouraged even. The intention is good I think, they are forcing you to level up a new toon therefore experimenting with different builds & ways of leveling. Cant say its is wrong and its logical, but in practise it just doesnt really work. We are discouraged at gold costs of respecing therefore a huge rise of build guides sources, most people look and follow a guide oppose to experiment themselves, by that i dont mean everybody, ofc there are theorycrafters and play your way players, i am talking about in general.

The aspect system isnt that problematic if ample storage space are provided, but at this stage I think they want us to focus on selected builds or classes. In this aspect, the current storage combine with mule toons are enough to work on 1 class most builds or meta build on meta classes.

This franchise is known for time sinking. The "messy"aspect system, even D2/D3 system arent exactly time efficient or QoL for player’s time/ease of managing. You d rely for 3rd party utilities on enhancing these element previously. I am quite disappointed D4 team doesnt realise the root cause to exploiting in previous instalments and figures meaningful ways to “waste our time” rather what’s on display. But as a marketing stunt, they do have expansion(s) to release so i guess QoL maybe included on it. Koei Tecmo, a well known (or less well known) Japanese gaming developers typically release not as up to standard games on launch and release expansions called “power ups”. Its been working for them for the last 3 or 4 decades.

Personally, I am happy to support this franchise even if they purposefully trying to sell QoL expansions as long as they are within a certain limit. I would be furious if needing to resort to 3rd party solutions for what seems to be standard gaming features in 2023. You simply dont disrespect your player’s time like these. It is year 2000 anymore where everyone had AMPLE time on hand.
