Texture quality only goes up to Medium

My budget gaming PC runs on a GTX 2060S. Texture quality only goes up to Medium. High and Ultra options are not available. This has been the case since beta.

My laptop runs on a GTX 2060. All texture options are present. The game looks significantly better on my laptop than it does on my PC.

Can this be fixed please? It doesn’t make sense for the higher settings to be disabled on my PC when it is available on a machine with lesser hardware (the game runs perfectly fine there).

true it doesn’t make sense for you to suffer that way,
personal advice though, do not run ultra or high textures on 6gb VRAM gpus, apparently game uses up to 11gb VRAM when maxed out at 1440p, so maxed out at 1080p probably eats like 8~9gb, and High probably still higher than 6gb (it may show 5.3 or 5.7 on your end but in reality it may want say 7gb, and would use these with another gpu) , this may make your game to crash

I think it might have something to do with the amount of RAM in the system. I have an RTX 2060 6GB with 32GB of RAM and I have both high/ultra. Not that I use those anyways.

Both my laptop and PC have 8GB VRAM so I don’t think it’s that. Also, as I said, the game runs fine on my laptop with Ultra textures and High settings. I’m not looking to run the game at 144Hz. I’m perfectly happy with 60fps.

My PC does have less RAM though (8GB vs my laptop’s 16GB). But could that really be it? I don’t need everything to be Ultra. I just want the textures at higher than medium.

In any case, I just want the option available so I can decide for myself whether or not to use it based on how the game performs on my machine.

Additional note: Both my PC and laptop are only 1080p.

This may be the problem. Devs anticipated your RAM amount scenario and game refuses to launch higher quality textures, because they know it won’t fit in RAM, it would end up swapping to disk and you killing the game process once it becomes unresponsive. Or even rebooting the PC if it’s stuck thrashing the disk for too long.

I have a 3070 8gb and I played on ultra with 3440x1440 without any issue, GPU always stay max 70c and I have 100-13x fps.

And never encounter any crash at all

lack of vram gets compensated by your ram, assuming 3440x1440 needs like 12gb vram, if you are lucky - you may encounter some lag spikes (which you may not even notice) and the game will not crash at all, if you are unlucky - the game will either crash or will ‘silently’ reduce the resolution of some textures to ~480p , more info can be seen in this video at 4:50~7:19 (stuterring due to lack of vram) , 7:20~7:27 (crash) , 7:28~8:00 (trees rendered in ~480p) , 8:00~8:28 (stuttery mess) , 8:29~11:30 (480p textures due to lack of vram, even with DLSS) , 13:09~13:22 (crash) , 13:23~13:45(stutter), 14:50~16:25 (480p textures) , 16:46~18:50 (stutter), 19:07~20:20(stutter, abysmal fps)
maybe there’s more in that video there, obviously these games are not D4 and D4 luckily is a less heavy game, but what i’m saying is that it’s not safe to play a game with settings which require ~12gb vram and having only 8gb
not safe as in you may crash, end up having worse textures, lag spike
amount of spikes will totally depend on your RAM MHz & channels, so if you are an owner of DDR5 ram then you will have a bit of a better time than the owner of DDR4, but both ddr5 and ddr4 are slower than gpu’s memory, so that’s why occasional spikes, fps loss, worse textures, or crash may happen

it’s great that you haven’t crashed, hopefully you never will, but please don’t promote it to other users with 8gb gpus, they may be less lucky

My intention wasn’t to promote anything. I just wanted the option on my PC since the game runs perfectly well (by my meager standards) on my laptop which has a slightly weaker card. I game on a 60hz 1080p monitor so I don’t really need much, and I don’t mind the occasional drop to 40-50 fps. I just wanted to be able to tweak the settings myself so I can find a good balance between visuals and performance.

My post was based on the assumption that the missing High and Ultra texture options was a bug rather than a feature. But if that’s not the case, and this was indeed intentional by the devs, then there’s nothing I can do. :frowning:

This only low and medium texture option is driving me insane. Do we have any options how to fix it? Was anybody with this problem able to fix it somehow?

You and me both. As far as I can tell, no one has figured it out yet. Or this was somehow by design, in which case, that sucks for us who are really bothered by the medium textures, especially when we know our rigs can handle better.

Excatly… and now instead of playing, am looking how to upgrade my PC… saw people said you need to have more than 16 GB of ram, so i might go and buy more ram… dont know what else to do…

Update!
I found solution, for me anyway. I switched from my 1440p monitor to my old 1080p monitor, and now i have high and ultra texture option.
I have Ryzen 5 2600, rtx 2600, 16 gb ram.
Hope this will help.
