Tempering strikes again

Lol… Hundreds of pit runs, helltides, bosses and t100 nmd’s, finally found an amulet with Greater attack speed and Greater cooldown reduction. Hell yea!

Rolled the same 2 affixes every time on tempering, salvaged.

Frankly, it’s depressing. I’ve salvaged at least 20B worth of Temper roll limits.

This needs to be fixed asap.

Just bricked two 3GAs this past week as well. Well technically one of them could count as a 2GA because the last affix was a resistance that I was going to reroll anyways. But the other one was a perfectly itemized item.

Same problem with getting the same wrong affixes 4-5 times in s row.

Surprisingly, I wasn’t too upset about it. Maybe it has something to do with not having preordered the expansion yet, and with all the new info about POE2 coming out, Last Epoch starting a new cycle soon, Elden Ring DLC dropping, etc.

They’ve made their stance clear and I don’t think they’re going to change it. They think the numbers for season 4 means they’re doing everything right.

I’m probably just going to spend my remaining plats on the battle pass for season 5 and that’ll be it for me on Diablo. I recommend people who hate the tempering limit do the same. It’ll be a good test to see if you really do hate it that much.

People who are a fan of the tempering system must be missing brain cells or have the IQ of a potatoe, so it’s ok, I forgive you.

They are casual players who has never bricked 2GA items, most likely from Reddit:

as if it were as easy as getting a yellow

Could just be that some of us are willing to accept loss. I’ve accepted multiple GA items bricking as if it were simply a 3/5 item. I don’t expect every 3/5 or even 2/5 to be that perfect piece. Until you temper it to find if it’s a 3/5, 4/5, or 5/5 it’s just like identifying the last 2 stats. It’s still much easier with this system to get a 5/5 than versus finding one on the ground.

Right? lmao. “Just find another one” Sure thing bud, only took me more than half the season to find this one because it’s so rare, but yea maybe I’ll try again in S5.

I’m not really a huge fan of tempering, I’m also not hugely against it, somewhere in the middle. But here’s a little life lesson. People will have different opinions than you it doesn’t make them bad people or stupid.

Could tempering be changed? Sure, I guess.
They’re giving more tries to GA items in season 5.
There needs to be SOME risk/reward.
It’s not like bricking an item destroys your character.
So you might have 2% less crit chance or 5% less attack speed without the new item.
Oh well? Keep going, or don’t.
It’s not like that’ll be the difference in killing Duriel or not.
If only I had 2% more CDR I could beat the game!

You may be right, in some cases, with certain opinions, but experience has taught me otherwise, especially owning multiple businesses, I see “intellectually challenged” and genius and everything in between, every day. Maybe it will for you too, someday, you sound young if you haven’t experienced the same yet, give it time.

Some opinions are in essence, born of the inability to think critically or the need to troll, or a need to disagree without a valid reason at all. With that said, there are silly a$$ opinions in some cases. Again, some, never always.

Their random number generator is way off. Corner cases come up much too often. They need to revisit how these events are calculated. While it is impossible for a computer to generate truly random numbers I suspect Blizzard could do better. However, failing in that, perhaps, they could have a way to retemper an item. This has been suggested many times and would probably be the easiest way to resolve the issue.

I’ve never found a 2GA, much less bricked one.

I typed one paragraph. How could anyone sound young from one paragraph? This is just you trying to dismiss what I said to justify your stance. For what it’s worth I’m in my 40s one of those “gamer dads” people on the forums often blame for the game being too easy.

I think it depends a lot on how much one plays as well. Someone playing 40 hours a week is going to see 2-3GA items regularly, so the perceived value is much lower. Someone who plays 5 hours a week? That 3GA may be the only one he’s gonna see this whole month, and those few 2GAs he sees are practically his true end-game, his BiS items.

Ultimately it’s that same dilemma. Heavy players chase different things to light players, and most systems in the game support that divide by allowing player agency in what to chase.

But tempering forces the exact same gameplay experience on everyone.

Most games targeting the mainstream market knows to provide casual content in parallel to progression content. Diablo, however, insists that everyone must play the same content. So we always have people who say something is too harsh, while at the same time we also always have people crying about the game being too easy and they want harsher penalties and harsher RNG etc.

Similar problems will keep coming up endlessly as long as devs don’t realize they are forcing two very differnet groups of people to play to the same rules.

Oh how? “But here’s a little life lesson. People will have different opinions than you it doesn’t make them bad people or stupid.”

I answered from a perspective of many many years in business dealing with people from many walks of life, ie, experience.

So either A. you are young or B. have a small sample pool, probably because you’re young.

Which is it?

Edit: oh you’re 40, so it’s B. small sample pool. Anyways, listen, let’s get back on topic because you can believe what you want. So how about that Tempering? Needs some work or what?

This isn’t accepting the occasional loss. This is, “99.9% of the the stuff that drops is auto-trash, and about 99.9% of the stuff you’ll temper will end up being trash too”. The RNG is so awful it removes any and all excitement from loot. I see a 2-4 GA and all I think is “they’re probably useless stats or it’ll get bricked from rolling the same affix out of 3-5 possible affixes, 5 times in a row”. Tempering reroll limits was an idiotic idea.

Like gambling - tempering is a probability game. For really GG 3GA items the aim should be to not brick the item, if that means having to roll another stat for better odds at a worse outcome so be it.

As example - i want to roll Critical damage (1/4 or 25% chance per roll) on a 2H mace for barb using my rogue. I would roll until I have 2/5 tempers remaining and should that fail I would switch back to barb and roll Berserk damage (1/3 or 33% per roll). Having 2 rolls gives me a 66% chance which is better odds than crit damage.

Is this optimal? Likely no - but nevertheless I would need to get 300% berserk damage due to glyphs and that does require a temper or 2 on gear to obtain. I would rather not risk bricking a GG item and play the odds. Crit damage rolls I can do it on other items like rings and gloves and should that brick the feeling is less painful than losing a 3GA item.

Whatever you need to believe to validate your own nonsense. But given you replied to your own comment and not mine and spelled potato wrong I’m having a hard time believing this experience you speak of.

But again this is a feature in a video game. It’s on the same level as having an opinion on music or food. Thinking someone who is ok with a video game feature that you are not as being stupid speaks volumes about you.
