Tempering is Good w/ Trading. AH Time

I feel that tempering is a healthy part of the game, keeping the chase of loot alive. With the changes to allow more rolls per GA coming next season, I think it will be great. (Not the season itself, as the state it was in during PTR).

The part that is important though in this system is the trading. If I wasnt able to use diablo.trade to have enough gold from selling my undesired drops, to turn around and buy more opportunities at the slot machine of tempering, it would feel horrible.

This is why we need an AH. Not RMT, just gold, with items bought becoming account bound. Hidden user names on listings to make it more difficult for RMT. And any other number of checks to somewhat mitigate and ban those that would use it for RMT.

In all seriousness tho it would need to have a lot of controls

  1. Disable person to person trading
  2. Gold BOA
  3. Purchased items become BOA
  4. Only legendaries and above for selling
  5. Remove any seller identification
  6. Keep drop rates as they are now
  7. Cap selling price
  8. Cant see dropped items on ground from other players

You do all of that an AH could work but its best not to have one at all, look at the toxic experience we have with open trading.

And what about those who have philosophical problems with trading in a “loot hunting” game?

We’ve been asking for AH since day 1 right along with the overlay map but NOOOO people cry about things like I see the word fortify on my screen and I don’t like it so they spend time removing things like that instead of giving us things that would actually help!

They wouldn’t use it. Or do You mean people who don’t want other people to use an AH?

They’re in the wrong game.
Trading is part of the very sales point of purchase and pre launch design philosophy.

Move along I guess…

Personally I don’t engage in trading.
I don’t hate it - but I truly cannot stand the psychology associated with it.
Minime johnny geegee tycoons, market" economy", shady scalpers, liars, thieves, scammers, RMT etc.
It’s vile and nothing ever good has come of it.
Then again I have morals and just want an item I don’t need to have a home with someone who genuinely needs it - I’ve always accepted a token gesture of a payment or just give it away.
Otoh 20+ years of good people and utter dregs of society and “economic gouging and depravity” of D2 teaches one a lesson in humanity.

For now: Trading is here to stay.
It could be better.
It SHOULD certainly be better - no excuses and shame on Corp/Devs or whomever is responsible for this reprehensible and kindergarten system that’s either utterly naive(as if it wouldn’t be RMT etc) or it’s absolutely and positively BY DESIGN and Corp is involved in some way and complicit in the circus.
No middle ground with decades of history.

Cant support dtrade anymore or AH idea. Too many issues. D3 trade system needs to come back and drop chances adjusted to make up for limited trading. What we have now is an abomination and even with AH and even with binding items I dont think it can work anymore. Im firmly in D3 only trade system camp. Even pulled my excellently written the case for the AH post.

The things I find most toxic about the open trading system we have now is:

  1. Boss Mats can be traded
  2. The current system is a dream for RMT players, and a nightmare for anyone trying to do legitimate in-game transactions.

Here is an idea:

Make it so that only gear can be listed. Any GA will be listed as such, but any non GA is just listed showing what the affix is. Upon buying the item off the AH, the non GA affix stays as the same affix, but the range does an RNG roll for it’s value.

This way the RMT users can’t just say, “it is the so-and-so with this % of so-and-so, go buy that one to complete our transaction”.
Also, completely block what aspect it has, because no one cares about those anyways.

Now that you have that, you can search for the types of affixes you are looking for, but only the lowest priced option will be displayed. So you can’t just list an item with said affixes, at a specific price, to signal to the persons you paid real money to, to go and: “Buy this one!”.

Im sure there are plenty of other ways to secure and implement a better trading system, but I dont get paid to sit around and think of them. But, the people who do can make a good system easily if they tried.

This is even worse than no trading at all.
This is what would happen is party trade is the only thing we could do.

“LF3M X Boss. Only Barbarians. You trade item X, i have item Y that i can trade away”
It will just be a cesspool of exclusion

Well, having an AH in the game doesn’t force you to use it just like having trading in the game doesn’t mean you can’t play SSF if you so desire.

I can understand why people do trade but I just can’t bother with it since it is such a hassle. Plus if I need loot. I just go punch the loot pinata that Helltides are.

Yes we need an auction house.
But it’s not at all the solution for tempering.

Letting us do 1 more temper per GA was not the solution.
But shifting tempering recipes, so we don’t have 4-5 different possibilities together with the GA thing, is a big difference.

Maybe still not good enough, but a big step in the right direction.
Personally I would like to have a rare material, that is able to reset all tempering tries on an item.
But this should be much rarer than stygian stones.
You get maybe 2, if you play 8 hours.

I think they said that they are working on a final / better solution for tempering but it’s just not ready for season 5.

Where did they say that? Dont remeber them saying anything about that in the CC.

They said in the campfire chat that more updates on tempering are coming in the future
(and after that they said that for season 5 the improvement will be 1 further roll for each GA)

Fixing tempering won’t fix the issue with rerolling at the enchanter. Only people who trade and thereby acquire billions in gold have the ability to reroll an amulet until they finally get the reroll they want. People who simply play the game most often just have to make do.

I think blizz can also make auto-calculator for item value based on some AI or similair technique. So items that have value could not be hyper-overpriced and tilt the market.

You realize adding options for text like that is orders of magnitude less work than adding an AH? (I’m not bringing up the map for a variety of reasons.)
