I played Diablo 4 on PC. I bought the game at its release in June a year ago. I had a lot of fun for a year. There were ups and downs, but overall, I had fun. Thank you!
Why did I stop? Basically, I think it’s great that you have the option to upgrade items. But I found a very rare item with a very rare greater affix. I completely destroyed this item while tempering it. That was my exit after a year of Diablo 4. This was the red line crossed. Masterworking can be reset, but tempering cannot. That was the mistake, you overstepped the mark here.
And why is there no feedback topic in the forum? Why is there only a PTR feedback? Don’t you want ideas and suggestions for improvements from your fans?
I understand that many posts are written here in the forum every day. I hope that my feedback is acknowledged and reaches the developers.
The forum is filled with self appointed developers and programs who are always telling Blizzard what to do.
As soon as Blizzard posts a blog, patch notes or has a live chat the “feedback” starts, to be followed by the “I quit.”
But why isn’t there a single point of contact, a category for this? Everyone is posting it everywhere. That’s just my criticism…
And Tempering is really awful, it’s no fun at all. It just drives the players away…
Most people just post everything in the General Discussion section. We now have a section for the VoH expansion and many people never even use it. https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/d4/c/vessel-of-hatred-discussion/25
Ok, but it says “PC General Discussion.” Aren’t console players allowed to join in here? It’s not about the add-on for me. I would really like it if there was a separate category for general feedback. And actually, tempering is the topic here. I think they’ve gone overboard with it.
Probably the reason it goes into general discussion. Ya think?
Yeah it’s joke. On occasion you get lucky. Seems a lot dislike it, including myself. But there are a few who love anything and everything.
Exactly here is where I personally feel the limit has been exceeded. I want to communicate this in the hope that many others feel the same way, and that it will be changed in the future…
You cant destory an incomplete item. You had a 3/5 and tempered it. That item outcome was either a suboptimal 3/5,4/5 or you got a 5/5. Item is still usable but it may not be an upgrade.
Of course, you’re right, the item isn’t completely unusable. But it makes you incredibly angry. And a game shouldn’t do that. It’s supposed to be enjoyable. Let the players have fun.
I will never understand the entitled mindset of those who cant enjoy something unless they get exactly what they want. Ok, so you didnt get what you wanted it just means you have an opportunity for an upgrade.
I mean the systems now are far superior to looking through 100s of items for a 4/5, 5/5.
It doesn’t really matter where it’s posted. Blizzard gets to see all of the posts in summary one way or another. The categorization is for the benefit of the players.
There are suggestion/ideas sections, but generally people don’t use them. There are also class specific pages.
Most of the traffic come to the PC General Discussion, so that’s where most of the posts are.
Your feedback won’t be “acknowledged”, and it won’t make it to the developers unless it’s of the format:
“I feel like feature X doesn’t work very well because Y”
And back it up with:
“When X happens, it makes me feel like Y”
This is what they want, this helps them to understand how people feel about things, so that they can try to adjust the game to stop the feel bad moments and increase the feel good moments.
If you write a post like that, rather than “x sucks” or “blizz are bad” etc… then it’ll likely get collated into some form of result where the developers can be told that a specific thing in game is generally making people feel bad because of reasons.
Then they will try to resolve that.
Hope that helps.
Btw, there’s nothing really wrong with Tempering in its current state. People that hate on it are way over exaggerating their use-cases or they’re not used to not getting everything they want immediately.
This is a loot game and we’re supposed to hunt for loot. If we don’t get the loot we want, we should kill more stuff and get more loot, not come to the forums and complain that we didn’t get the item we want.
There are some things that could change in tempering to make it feel better, sure, I won’t dispute that. It doesn’t mean that tempering is bad though.
I do think there’s something to criticize about Tempering in its current form. I’m not trying to stir trouble here, but how long should one farm to find success? That’s the question, isn’t it? Hardcore players who play 10 hours a day naturally see this differently than casual players.
I went through this in another post. I’ll try not to go in to so much detail here, but it comes down to this.
In S3 how long would it take you to collect and sift through all of the items that drop before you found an upgrade?
In S4 how long does it take you to collect and temper the items that drop before you craft an upgrade?
The answer will be pretty much the same.
In S3 you had multiple times as many items drop, but only a fraction of them were useful.
So, if you found 10,000 items an hour, maybe 100 of them were ‘good’, and maybe 10 of them were potential upgrades, and maybe 1 of them really was an upgrade after enchanting.
In S4 you might only find 1,000 items in an hour, but still 100 of them are good, 10 are potential upgrade, and 6 of them are actual upgrades after tempering (because there’s a 56% chance to get the tempers you want when there’s 4 options on each of the 2 tempers you want).
The problem is that people’s expectations changed because we see more good items, that those items should be useful. That’s not the case though, items are only useful when they’re correctly tempered, people just need to adjust their expectations, because in S4 you’re getting at LEAST as many if not more upgrades even though tempering does brick some items. than you were getting in S3.
At least in theory, I don’t know the “actual” drop rate changes, but this aligns at with the experience we all have.
The forum itself is the place to leave Feedback. The reason for having a separate PTR is to separate the “new” feedback from the “old”, in order to do a good job on the new content.
Tempering went through the same process, and no matter how much I tried to highlight the issue in the previous PTR, no changes were made immediately.
(Yes, I. I created the second largest thread of the previous PTR. Top5 in all possible parameters)
The tempering feedback has reached them. They are aware of the problem and in the current PTR (if I’m not mistaken) an increased limit for tempering is being tested. However, they have stated that tempering must have an end/limit (not stated why).
So, for some reason, a tempering reset or infinite modification is out of the question.
I think the only thing we can aim for is Target farming (farming to choose what we want, but locking the item in the process), or a complete tempering redesign.
Now… tempering is a real problem… every week someone new comes to complain about the system… that shows that it is a system that constantly irritates new players, and it is the new players that become old players …you don’t want to lose them prematurely.
I find that the tempering function doesn’t work very well because the necessary properties are hit far too rarely. When I find a very rare item and it gets destroyed during tempering, I feel very sad and angry. This has led me to stop playing [insert game name]. This isn’t meant to be mean, just my experience. I hope you can improve on this in the future.
This exact thing has been written a million times on the forum now (regarding temper bricking) and the devs are fully aware of your/our feedback at this point. Don’t worry.
When items are once in a lifetime type of drop, it feels super bad. That’s just the way it is. It’s fine on items that drop all the time but it’s not when it’s a type of item you may never see again.
This is just my opinion.
Maybe adding the extra chances on ga items helps but I doubt it fixes. Another fix imo is to have these items drop more often, like way more often in tougher content. Having more chances, at least for me would fix the issue I have with the system. Also imo the game needs to have a more progressive feel and having items like this drop from doing tougher content also solves that issue.
I know, it is the experience of many, including mine.
I personally don’t have problems with the RNG or the time it takes to get equipment… but I do have luck problems, and I dislike that my luck has an impact on my success.
Now… I’ve talked and discussed Tempering quite a bit… I know almost all the arguments, pros and cons, and the reasons why it’s a problem for some players.
There are very good ideas for redesigns, but almost no good quick solutions… almost.
A slow but safe alternative that, through target farming, gives us what we want, but with limitations, is THE easy solution.
And when you win it feels a lot more exciting. You also have to remember trade exists which does impact the rates as a whole.
I wouldnt say ones in a lifetime, maybe once in a season depending on how long you play and if you just play with items you find.
