This system is so annoying! You get good item drops, but then you roll bad stats five times and the item is useless. Why does Blizzard make such annoying systems? At least give us some option to renew all the tempers on the item, like a world drop consumable or craftable consumable. This system ruined Season 4 for me. It seems like Blizzard can’t stop making annoying systems.
You got 3/5 of an item drop. Tempering is you filling in the last 2 affixes. It’s not a good drop until you’ve done the tempering and are happy with the result.
People’s expectations with tempering are completely out of whack. It’s still about the item drops and still about the RNG and those GG 5 affix items are supposed to be very rare. You don’t get 2 out of the 5 and think you’re entitled to get the other 3 via tempering and enchanting.
This is how you should be doing it. For example, we will use a helm because cooldown reduction is often wanted and hard to roll. Keep every helm that drops with cooldown. Temper every one of them starting with whichever temper is hardest to roll. It’s likely going to take several items to get those 2 tempers correct. Now enchant an affix that wasn’t cooldown reduction.
Boom. A great 4 affix item that likely has a 5th you can work around. Now wear that helmet until you find a better candidate and do it again.
couldnt have said it better. People think they got an uber item just because it has 2 or 3 G affixes. thats not how it works. often enough it makes quite a bit sense to use a non GA item, with awesome temperings for the time being.
This is a problem. Dropping a 3GA should make you excited with dopamine rush but under a current system, you need to postpone your excitement because there’s a chance that you could brick it.
Unless you want to sell the it, finding a 3GA makes you feel ambivalent.
i dont see that as a problem. 3GA items are not too hard to get, especially since they are tradeable. its merely a chance to have an extremely powerful item, which is fine. after all, we are still in the second week of season 4. The way some people expect it to be theyd be geared out already, to then complain: “omg d4 bad, nothing to do!”
The problem is that you lose the moment of dopamine rush. It should come with dropping an item (among other things).
the dopamine rush surely shifted towards the tempering yea. Id say its really just a matter of how you look at it.
for example. im using two legendaries from the curiousity vendor, no GAs. they got solid temperings and are masterworked. they are quite powerful as they are. Whenever i get a nice GA item, i can try my luck, while still having the security net of wearing a strong item already.
GA items for sure arent anything build defining. they are a bonus.
GA is the devs’ version of loot filter, you should be excited when a GA drops.
and you can be! you got the chance to wear a godlike item. that its not obtained just yet more often than not in week 2 is fine in my opinion.
That’s what I said earlier, you need to move your hypothetical excitement into the future if you are successful with the tempering. This is silly, it should happen at the moment when the item drops.
I can´t count the number of good items I lost because the tempering roll crap.

The idea is good but poorly implemented.
part of the problem is that some of the tempering manuals really increase the chances of bricking. For example with necro, compare “summoning finesse” with “profane innovation”. I have bricked SO many items because of profane innovation, but with summoning finesse I always at least get something usable.
The manuals that buff two different skills should be removed. Getting an affix for a skill you don’t use is not fun.
Stop white knighting an absolutely terrible mechanic
My two favorite tempering WTH moments was when my sorcerer ended up with an item that had not just thorns but dodge also.
The second was when I screwed up both 2 handers for my barbarian and ended up with 42 seconds of vulnerable on kick. He REALLY had been putting in some leg days I guess.
Tempering is an improvement but needs work still and can be better.

Found over 10 almost perfect items after hours and hours just to fail in tempering all with wrong stats they are trash now. The System must be changed in at least 10 trys each affix or enless try with Gold or whatever…
The fix for this is super simple. There just needs to be 2 tiers of tempering. One you use this horrible charge system for your starter items or whatever random stuff you don’t care too much about. The second tier would consume some “rare” currency that allows you to deterministically pick the stat but consumes the currency. PoE handles this problem already by allowing you to use things like Hinekora’s locks to ensure you are going to really get an absolutely perfect craft, but you don’t want to use it on just every item you come across because it is prohibitively expensive to do so.
Once you get your 2-3 GA base item, you look at using your currency to ensure you get the affix you want.
Tempering system is hot garbage. It is the literal anti-fun mechanic watching hard found items brick because of poor RNG rolls, no failsafe against duplicate rolls, no way to manipulate the RNG and no way to reset a tempered item to attempt it again.
Create currencies for it, but as it stands this system is feel bad.
A rare currency is a good idea, but I really hope they don’t take the easy route and make it resplendant sparks. People who are willing to farm ubers are willing to farm another 2 GA item, so it doesn’t really address the population of players that don’t like tempering.
I would love it if we could use gold and Neathiron to buy new temper re-rolls. It would incentivize high pit level farming. Combine that with a higher drop-rate for GAs in high level pits and you’d see a ton of happy players.
I actually think it’s a very good system. Yeah it’s RNG, but you are bound to get desired stats. Not perfect, but a decent chance imo.
That beeing said, If I know Bliz, they will remove the 5 attemps and add gold costs.
One of the funnest things to do in previous seasons was trading big money items. Tempering has completely killed that desire. You don’t want to invest in anything rare now because you know this system is going to give you Upheaval or Steel Grasp Stun affixes 5 times and not the one you need.
The community left a metric ton of feedback about this in PTR and nothing was done about it. Those of us who played 12 hours a day in PTR hit this wall and felt how bad it was. Now the forums are blowing up with the majority of feedback being about how it’s killing the fun on multiple fronts.
At the absolute bare minimum we need to be allowed to keep our previous temper. I love the tempering system, but the implementation of the durability ruins it. The best suggestion I seen to fix this so far was by some random guy that suggested when you salvage a unique to grant one dull spark, and this can be used for 1 additional temper attempt on items that have exhausted the 5 durability.
