I’ve played a few characters to level 40-ish while getting a feel for the game and there’s a few things I’ve noticed that I don’t think I care for.
-
Mobs are always your level. Going back to the place I started and seeing the level 5 mobs are suddenly level 40. I don’t quite know how I feel about this, but my initial feeling is that I don’t think I care for it.

The skills seem lackluster and shallow. It almost seems like skills are footholds for gear bonuses and that the real advancement is in the gear that’s related to your skills. Is this correct higher up?
-
It seems like combat completely revolves around the blue globe (mana, fury, etc.) and healing pots, which I absolutely hate. I get this being a factor in combat, but it seems like this is the basis of combat. Does this change higher up?

At no point have I felt “heroic”. I feel like every fight is the same because every mob is my level all the time. At no point do I get that heroic “Diablo” feel of mowing down trash mobs to get to the boss because there are no real trash mobs. Will this change as I progress?
Please tell me that all of my problems are due to being low-ish level and somewhat poorly equipped.

It doesn’t. The dopamine hits stop in the 50s and its just a slog of misery from that point on, with most of the time you lying to yourself it gets better until you ultimately quit. Enjoy your stay and safe travels.

No thats pretty much the entire journey. You’ll get brief windows where your gear and level are within the golden ratio and you feel alright.

if you like better drops, then it is better. but everything else sucks because of the lack of variety.
i’m at lv 60 for my rogue, and leveling from 50-60 is really really slow. I mainly just do renown and some nm dungeons + world events like legions and world boss.
I can’t grind like a lot of youtubers solely on nm dungeons, it is very boring.
To be positive, if your class is like druid with good endgame build variety, you should have some fun just experimenting builds (marginally of course)
If you don’t like the game between 1-50. You’re not going to like it after 50. It’s painfully slow leveling. You have your majority of your best gear by level 70 and then there is little to look forward to besides the next paragon point.

That’s disheartening. I guess it’s back to D2R.
After 70 (WT4), when you start getting your best gear/item stats, you “have to” do Nightmare Dungeons to “feel” that additional benefit from leveling your glyphs.
Though, most of a Paragon Board stuff are passive increases. So they do not feel as impactful as an extra skill point. (Like… a 5% Vuln damage node, 3% extra crit dmg etc)
Eventually, when you start getting lvl 15 glyphs you will feel stronger than similar level mobs even with scaling. That’s the only part that gets better later on.
Personally I find the first 50-60 levels to be the most enjoyable. Everything after that is a mind numbing grind. I’m racing to HC 100 and I refuse to sit down and play unless I have a podcast or news to give half of my attention to. It’s too boring otherwise.
It gets really good around 63+
I actually really enjoy the game, but to be honest, if you don’t enjoy it at level 40, you won’t enjoy it later.
im in the 70s and i gotta say … it gets boring well for me … so im just doing gathering legions/world boss thats about it . at least im getting loot
When you hit World Tier 3, a different experience happens but the focus of the narrative ends, its more about like what Diablo was always about, power-progression (Or gear-progression) while tossing in the paragon Board to further enhance your playthrough.
So, this will end up being a grind BUT with problems some people before getting to 50 disappears really quick, such as feeling weak, lacking gear, etc. Druids felt bad up until that point. Personally, Diablo in general has been fun for me in this regard, I JUST got to World Tier 4 and hunting for my next set of gear to further me up the ladder.
If that isn’t appealing, then you won’t like the gear/paragon board leveling grind because it does get grindy.
It doesn’t, full stop. What you saw at level 1 is what you see at level 80. You see a power spike once you change world tiers and get the better gear, but not much of one.
I mean eventually you will be strong enough that you oneshot trashmobs at your level.
i dont know about the other classes but my pulv bear keeps feeling more and more badass.
didnt have issues fending my way to 79 so far. things die if i touch them , resource is very decent with any density. a bit dry on bosses though, gotta use my builder a bunch there.
I’m at lvl 63. My build hasn’t changed at all. It plays the same.
the trash mobs are already trash mobs if you build things right. Diablo 4 isn’t 100% level dependent, it is very stat and gear dependent game. The better your gear is, the better your skill is, you will demonish trash mobs and bosses quicker.
Mobs scale with you until 95.
Everything else (skills=gear, generator+spender combat, etc) is forever.
I agree with the early game, but it does get better in terms of how it plays (for me it did at least).
Paragon and the increased quality of gear in WT3 onwards is a big bump. I suddenly started really enjoying my Sorc as my gear started to revolve around actual affixes, and paragons had impact instead of just slapping on whatever gear was slightly better than the last.
