Taunt: are you asking the wrong question?

(Just one opinion. Hope it helps!)

I strongly believe many people are asking the wrong question for a minion build: “How do I get my minions to pull aggro off my necro?” There is no answer, and I read a lot of complaints about minions revolve around this “oversight” by Blizzard. From my perspective, I don’t really have that issue so I thought I’d share my experience!

The question should be: “How do I lose aggro on my necro?” There is an answer to this. Aggro is lost by dying… or by exploding into mist! That’s right! Everyone stops chasing you the few seconds you are incorporeal, and if you time it right all demons are in combat before you come back a few second later.

There does not seem to be any sort of memory with aggro. Mobs go for the person who ticked it off in the first place, stop when they find a combatant, and fight until their opponent is dead or they reach a “special attack.” That’s why, I believe, elites are such a pain. Butcher, specifically, seems to reset his target every few seconds.

That said… UGH, Mist is mandatory? Yes, I believe “Infinimist” was made for minions. Here’s my combat order:

  1. Charge in and decrepify in all directions. Everything starts coming in.
  2. Ultimate “Army of the Dead” If i had some missing skeletons, they will be back soon!
  3. Immediately pop Mist (level 1, it doesn’t matter), and charge into the pile, let Corpse Explosion take care of the cooldown timer. Run back out!
  4. When I return to the living, I focus on Decrepify and Corpse Explosion (optional, but synergizes well) to bring timers down. The minions do most of the heavy lifting.

At this point, I’m in combat with 10 or more demons, aggroed all of them with the necromancer, but only 1 or 2 remain on me. I could still add 4 skeletons, once I get my necro defense locked in.

So how do I die? If the minions die (usually to an elite), I have to be prepared to get away, summon more skeletons, or Mist again. I have poor health (no gear ever has life on it). I have been able to pull off back to back to back ultimates with this setup. Infinimist is stronger than just infinimist.

I currently only use the “corpse explosion missile” unique gloves. It is by no means necessary. Top stats for items are, in my opinion: Life, Minion Life, Lucky Hit, and Minion Attack Speed.

In conclusion, if you are tired of running from the enemy, play dead!
