Survey: Do you want RAIDS in D4?

This topic has come up again recently so I decided to take a survey of the forum.

1.) If raids are announced as a new feature for Vessels of Hatred, will you still play D4?
2.) Will you still buy the expansion?

My answer to both is of course NO. I play this game to get away from games like WOW where I need other players just to advance in the game. Forced grouping mechanics should never be in ARPGs and stay where they belong in MMOs.

But what says you?

i will still play it. im not a fan of the idea, but if it happens it wouldnt stop me from playing. id give them a try. i dont see how they could make them work properly in this system honestly

If the leaks are to be true we will be getting a raid in some form or another. Now I highly doubt it will be what people expect, and more then likely we’ll see people one-shotting these raids solo, but we’ll see if and when it happens.

  1. I’ll answer by saying if I still enjoy the game and the changes coming out for D4, I will still play D4. Just because they add an optional part to the game I may not enjoy doesn’t mean I won’t continue to play the parts I do enjoy.

I didn’t personally like AoZ myself, but I had no issues with it being added. I gave it a shot, had some fun with it, then called it good. Late-game systems are not mandatory by any means, and you can pretty much complete all current content within the game with gear fully imprinted with aspects and no uniques (definitely don’t need uber uniques either). I doubt this will change when the expansion hits.

  1. I’m still skeptical about the expansion myself, but whether or not we have raids has nothing to do with it. I also have no issue with waiting for a sale to come out before I buy it. I may change my mind given what they announce, but considering the launch of the game, and the slow progression to get where we are now, I don’t see the launch of an expansion fairing any better.

I have no problems with people testing out the expansion before me, and figuring out all the problems that come with it. I can wait a month or two for that 15% sale like they had after launch. Who knows though, the expansion could be a huge hit, and add everything that still needs work within the game, but realistically speaking, I don’t see it happening.

As long as they’re optional and only reward cosmetics, titles, mounts, and achievements.
The moment you start locking gear behind raids - that’s when we have a problem.

im unsure to be honest. i would like the clan feature to be kinda enhanced, and i think raids would be a great way to achieve that, but i agree with you when you say diablo shouldnt be some kind of wow.

maybe some optional raid leaderboard with cosmetic rewards?

Yes and Yes. Of course. Looking forward to try all game mode options they offer up. I can’t love/hate these new things unless I try them first. After I play them, I will be happy to give you an opinion on it.

I certainly wouldn’t have any issues if that was all that raids gave out, but I doubt the participation rate would be very high. Everyone I know that ever participated in high end raids did it for the gear, not the joy of the raid activity itself. If the option to get that gear was available solo, they would take the solo option and avoid all the headaches that come with group raids.

8 person raid i guess. 12 or 16 or even 24 omg no.

Raids, to me, don’t really work without dedicated roles.

Otherwise they are just longer, more tedious, world boss zerg fests.

So my vote would be no on having them.

very true. d4 doesnt really have dedicated tanks, or healer/support classes.

Lost Ark doesn’t really have roles. Although Gunlancers fit the description of a Tank, they do not aggro the boss the entire time and the Healer heals them. While there are a very few amount of Support Classes, it is entirely possible to complete a Raid without any Support either and just pure DPS.

The problem with Diablo 4 is there are no Boss mechanics, damage and survivability are very out if whack. You have players one-shotting Bosses and you can go from taking no damage to dead instantly. There is nothing really gained from a Raid since you cannot work together to achieve a goal. No Stagger system, no Weakpoint, no Consumables, no real Wipe mechanics, no Counter Attack system.

Yes, we already have Legions and World Bosses that require groups (for most people). But they would need a raid finder because the game isn’t based around groups.

well. u lilith wipes so far, and people didnt seem to handle it well here on the forums :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

but i agree, as much as i dislike LA, i liked their bossfights a lot actually. thats one of the very few things i could see blizzard to take inspiration from ^^

So long as the Raid satisfies difficulty, mechanics, and stays away from giving say “new BiS” gear, it would be a boon to the game. The bout should be more thrilling and drive solo and group players to the challenge than whatever Echo of Lillith was in Preseason. Main points that need to be addressed for best success:

  • Solo players ought to be able to Raid alone and have it scale separately to them.
  • Group Play ought to scale to 4 man or 8 man groups. Should satisfy what is lacking from World Bosses in terms of cohesion and perhaps role determination.
  • Across both spectrums, one shots should not be possible, but skips definitely ought to if the comp is dps maxing (locking to x phases is bleh). That being said, restraints ought to be placed to remove immunes which invalidate mechanics and skew class selection. Boss CC Stagger ought to be capable but can’t be spammed.
  • Fix the buff bar, please. :skull:

Dead on arrival then, people will farm bosses giving bis, thats just the way it is.

and if you lock bis gear behind raid bosses, well it just introduce a whole lot of other new problems.

i doubt they will do it ever.

I think you misunderstand what I wrote. “Stays away from” means refraining from gear rewards. We don’t need to have 925 item power be the cap everywhere else and then have Raids offer 950 or something inane like that. Should be a pleasurable/challenging sitch that limit tests your build, comp, or players.

If they want to tie Whispers to it so it’s not absolutely detached from the game loop, that’s good and doesn’t cross boundaries.

Theoretically yes.

Raid is good Co-op mode, but before you get to enjoy the fun you have to go through some pain process like below:

  1. You need to find a an elite group in Discord as you wont be able to complete a Raid with well designed difficulty with random player even D4 introduce match making
  2. Be prepared for the interview and get kicked from the discord group if they think you are not qualified
  3. Be prepared to be kicked in the midst of raid after few fail attempt and players start finger pointing you as liability.
  4. Be prepare no one take you in discord if you are being honest of your lack of Raid experience
  5. Some good heart players from discord who knows the Raid mechanic well as they are either streamers or some well orginez elite group. Will offer you a slot as charity to train you in the raid mechanic. You have to keep your head down and follow all instruction to complete the raid or risk being kicked.
  6. After you completed your first raid, prepare to open the RNG loot box and get disappointed again for not getting the “Must Have” gear gate behind the time limited raid reward. Try again next week after RNG failed everyday and wait for the weekly reset.
  7. After you have master the Raid mechanic .Repeat 1 to 5 to new players and prepare to kick them so they wont not waste the time of the rest of Raid veteran.

honestly, this sounds like your wow application process for guilds.

i mean… especially you, whos absolutely educated via youtube, should have an easy time to learn raid boss patterns and thus be able to help new players in a clan.

Yeah! makes the game more fun =)

I didn’t play WOW, and you cant learn RAID from youtube also. The 8 man RAID game i played, Ubisoft at the end introduce an easy RAID mode with 4 players random in Game match making with tune down difficulty and reward so players can start familiarizing themselves with the raid. It still failed, it just gave the new players false believe that they know how to play the real raid with actuall difficulty.

For example. one of the difficulty fight in the raid is you have to kill two boss by keep their hp around the same level or the boss will heal themselves. And you need to make sure everyone has mic for coordination and speak the same language.

I learned the raid by joined a charity discord group, keep my head down, follow instruction and then learn more about the raid mechanic by exaggerate my raid experience in Discord so I got more chance to be invited and learn more.

The last thing you want to say in discord in raid is “Hey friends, I am new to RAID, care to take me in?”
