Support builds for group play

I’m at work so I don’t feel like researching this so I figured I’d ask the fine ladies and gents on the forums. Are there any pure support builds like in D3? Example would be no damage shout barb. Has anyone experimented with this or is the game that unbalanced that making a pure support tank for group play is not feasible?

Someone mentioned a zdps Barb helping a sorc climb the Pits. How accurate that is I don’t know. Would imagine they just pumped points into their shouts, cooldown reduction on everything, went for max HP and called it good.

Wouldn’t be hard to figure out a build though. Invest in defensive nodes in paragon, anything that adds to your shouts, etc. Then all you would need is a friend or group willing to take you.

Personally speaking I don’t think it’s worth it. Shouts by themselves don’t benefit greatly from having more points pumped into them, at least not to the extent of making your barb worthless in a fight. To each their own though.

Kind of. Made a Druid that leans heavily into lucky hit debuffs:

Roar to slow everyone. Tendrils for rooting. Aspect that dazes. And tempered lucky hits that stun, slow, and freeze. Found several pieces of gear that have greater affix lucky hit chance.

Use lightning storm to hit as often as possible to proc lucky hit as much as possible. Leaves tons of easy targets for your team and still does OK damage.

Works pretty good for most of the game, but struggles in the higher pit levels even with a damage heavy team. Pit expects everyone to be doing high damage, I suspect.

I think Barb excels here. The shouts support the team. The Barb can tank as well to absorb damage. The barb can also pull enemies to group enemies together for a team members AOE builds. Best of all if the team is really struggling, the Barb can also stop supporting and just win the fight for the team.

Really, you don’t need to compromise. You can have your full shout support plus tank plus boss killer all in one build for group play.

Yea I kinda figured it’d be more of a niche thing that your group would kinda build around. Tank that buffs the team, debuffs the enemies, and pulls them in for easy pickins without hardly having to even swing a weapon so maybe the other classes can focus on damage heavy attacks and aspects. A tank at the front while the halfway glass cannons destroy everything from the background.
