I’m NGL, Necro minion build was my power-fantasy that I dreamed of for years since D2. D3 didn’t give me what I wanted, but I held on hope for D4. I thought my dreams were gonna come true, in the beta it was super fun playing Necro Jr… but in the full game, not only did Blizz immediately nerf the crap out of minions, but it turned out D4 was completely void of it being an actual build despite touting it as the “main fantasy” of the class and even have the book of the dead being their class feature.
There are no minion abilities.
There are minion passives.
You get some minor variations in what you can do, but there is literally no summoner build that is truly viable endgame. There are blood builds, bone builds, shadow dot builds… But not minion. Sure you could pick every single minion passive going up the tree, and there’s some synergy there with a few abilities. There are some aspects that make it seem like they are about minions, but at the end of the day, every Necro is currently way stronger and better of sacrificing them all and doing a no-minion build. It is literally the exact opposite of the class fantasy, and it’s by far the thing that makes me the most upset about this game. I love Diablo series and D4, I’ve already played like around 900 hrs per my PS5 counter, but freaking UGH.
- Give us minion abilities, pleeeease. At least one in each tree, the entire way down.
- For example, summoner build could replace corpse explosion with a minion-sacrificing bone shrapnel explosion that does more dmg up close but also shoots projectiles out in every direction with increased range.
- Bone movement ability like bone surfing (could require either a corpse or minion sacrifice so it’s not tied to needing to be a summoner build. Necro could really use a form of dash)
- If you don’t want to give necro mvt for the fantasy reasons you mentioned before, then give us a bone armor or minions that sacrifice to shield against burst/lethal damage or something to make them beefcake tanky.
- A curse that interacts directly with minions, like it curses your minions to explode for 200% weapon dmg if they die while cursed, or a curse called like Death Knell with a bell sound that automatically kills and bursts a new skeleton out of an enemy if they fall under 10% hp while cursed (could remove that from decrepify). Like it’s just READY TO BE REBORN, it just RIPS itself out while the body is still living. Holy freaking CRAP, that’s the stuff I’m talking about.
- The sacrifice passives further down in the skill tree need FLIPPED - they need to give bonuses for HAVING more minions (and not based on their proximity to you). Keep the sacrifice bonuses in the book of the dead intrinsic to sacrificing minions.
- And the key passive needs entirely reworked too, it’s a joke compared to the other three. It could be so many things, like, double our max summons with each corpse making 2 so it doesn’t double our corpse usage.
- More golem abilities too please like ones to make them bigger, faster, more taunting.
- Give us more element imbuing options for each type that don’t use up an entire aspect slot to do so, so we can focus on cold, poison, shadow, physical etc separate from the book of the dead choices.
- Aspects or Uniques or something that change one skeleton type to the other type, so all mages are warriors/reapers, or vice versa.
- new stronger variations or types of minions on the skill tree or as an ultimate, etc.
Some of these things could obviously be worked into uniques and aspects as well, but before even going there, the skill tree itself needs reworked, the book of the dead, probably 2-3 paragon boards, some glyphs, but yeah also aspects and uniques. Make Necro Summoner into an actual thing, please…
