Summon build makes boss fights impossible

I rage-quit playing my primary character over this: boss fights are just impossible using minion-based builds… Period. “Oh just get gud! Lawl noob!” Literally not a skill issue at this point:

  1. There is ZERO way to tell your minions to NOT stand in the AOE spam that Diablo 4 bosses love to throw around; and they’re too stupid not to stand in it themselves.
  2. The instant that bosses start to deploy said AOE spam, all my skeletons instantly die. This is despite having every level of mastery, swap over to shield guys, debuff as much as possible and anything else to try and make them more survivable. Beyond a certain level, it doesn’t matter anymore.
  3. Once they die, I spend the rest of the boss fight attempt cartwheeling and blood-misting around like a pillock, doing functionally no damage, because all my damage sources are dead, trying to re-summon them, only for them to die again. It would be comical if the yackety-sax were playing in the background, but as it stands it’s just infuriating.

I have never gone from enjoying something to viscerally hating it so fast before.

I dont know. But I remember Pet builds didnt work either in D3 without the necessary Pet gear to make them viable. Minions that are not Golem or Gargantuan always die on Bosses without the Pet gear.

I got a Legendary that buffs minions’ hp and another legendary that gives extra Skeletal Mages. I dont think it’s enough to use it on the content that I am doing. I need something 1000x DPS amplification of their damage. If not, I am staying away from Minions Build. But I am keeping the Golem.

I think Blizzard went in the wrong direction and They forgot that a necromancer should primarily bring the dead back to life, and they made him to some king of vampire… WTF ?

I can attest to this, before I got to WT3 I was doing pretty good. Had almost no issues, pets were never dying and it was fun. Once I entered WT3, O BOY. Any Helltide area and your minions are dead if you’re solo. World Bosses, they rarely die but in dungeons they also die consistently if there is 2-3 elite packs. I also have the legendary that gives me 20% minion damage reduction and it still doesn’t help. Summon Necro needs a LOT of buffs to do well, I’m currently rerolling to a Bone Spear/Spirit build because it’s so bad. Seeing other players decimate entire screens while I’m tickling stuff is just sad.

Same here, i am stuck on andariel with my shadow / pet necro.

D4 are the most bad diablo in history.

I have start one refund, first time in my life for one Diablo game.

Everything are gears dependancy in this games you can’t just done the story in easy with your own build.

The skills tree tree suck like i never see that before.

I dont understand how blizzard can do that after Grim Dawn, Last Epoch and POE.

I was a Necro in D3. D4 Necro feels too gear dependent in comparison. In D3, minions at least had a passive damage reduction for AoE damage, which helped. In D4, in a pure minion build, you spend a lot of your time spamming raise skeleton for both replacing and healing, when I could be using those corpses for doing damage.

If it wasn’t for having friends to group with, I wouldn’t be having fun being the kind of Necro that I want to be.

Have had next to no issues in any bossfights. Did the capstone at 46 then fought a lvl 72 elite as a lvl 49 in a helltide and still didnt have issues with the summons

D3 pet classes were super gear dependent. Almost to the point where outside of that one gear set that super boosted your pets you wouldn’t even bother with them because they were useless.

And up to level 30 it’s rough. Turn down the world tier if you’re not able to do it efficiently enough to make it worth it. And if you’re struggling in the next world tier your gear is probably not ready for it. I’ve tried 3 of the “subpar specs” of 3 different classes so far and while they don’t plow through things they don’t exactly struggle bus either. There are some bumps but it all smooths out after level 30.

Run a dungeon or two to get some affixes for your spec. Enchant your gear to replace useless stats with better ones. Upgrade your gear a couple of levels (at least 2, it’s not expensive to do and offers power creep for cheap.) Especially your weapon/s!

So… beat things necessitating beating bosses… that instantly wipe all my sources of damage… in other words: “just don’t have the problem that you’re having.”

Turning down a world tier doesn’t help, there is a gear cap, you are unable to get Sacred/Uniques on world tier 2. And Sacred’s are pretty much what your searching for once you hit level 50, I haven’t seen a single legendary drop that has been higher than what I got at level 50, and all the ones that are, are sacred drops.

So going down a world tier does not help one get stronger, sure you might get to go farm codex’s, The only summoner build i’ve found to work is a pure basic shadow summoner, and it’s iffy. I don’t even grab the corpse explosion shadow perk cause I need my corpses to heal/revive pets.

I’m 56 and crush through t8-10 nightmares. I have nearly every pet imprint except the ultimate one, +2 warriors because i haven’t found that one yet… Only difference is that in leiu of these i run the bone spear vulnerability 2h imprint, the bone spell crit scaling on my ring, essence per minion and the bone spell cap. it’s kind of a hybrid, with about 50-50 pets/bone spear… will crit for 20-30k and pets can easily hold their own in most scenarios… I’d love to be able to do a 100% pet build but i don’t think it’s highly viable atm… almost need spear as a fallback or to get the momentum going. It does boost minion damage significantly because of vulnerability.

Before Capstone 2 minions were fine. WT3 some mobs they can have issues with but not really.

The moment you step into Capstone 2 it’s a tad different. If you don’t have bone spear with a decent weapon its going to be painful. Especially once you get the super aggressive/fast mobs/teleporters.

Yeah I use the iron golem to get AoE vulnerability every 10 seconds or so, plus the three second stun. It just feels more like a job than a game as pure summoner. I’d reroll but i’m not interested in anything else, so i’m just trying to make pure summoner work, otherwise I wasted 80$, while I enjoyed 1-50, it wasn’t 80$ worth of fun.

Ontop of it I watched people I was 10 levels ahead of, with nearly the same play time pass me up, cause a good portion of the game, i’m fighting to keep my pets alive now.

Sometimes things go smoothly and it feels good, but once I see one minion die while i’m actively healing, I know for a fact that they are gonna all get wiped soon enough. I still don’t got all the legendary’s, but i do got a few.

Unfortunately bone spear is supposed to be the strongest damage in the game, that’s why you are clearing stuff so easy just using pets as filler. I’m 1 bar from 55, and the highest crit i’ve seen is around 2k.

I think they screwed us and themselves for that reason. that someone can go hybrid, and pets are just used as survivability filler. They aren’t gonna wanna buff pets too much cause then a hybrid build could be extremely powerful.

At the very least, they need to make our pets hit aloooot harder if they don’t wanna make hybrids where people use pets as punching bags and do alot of damage.

They’ll have to buckle down and make Decompose and Blight be a huge buff to pets. Like 200% damage increase by minions to anyone in blight or being decomposed. So you can have 400% on one single target.

What i’d prefer them do is increase our damage a little, and make them time heavily reduced aoe damage. And maybe make Decompose force pets to attack the target you are decomposing. Some of the problem could be helped atleast in W3, if you could focus a target.

My minions delete bosses in seconds. Cold mages will also stun everything instant with the right setup.

Wait till you try to unlock WT4

As long as the monsters there can also be stunned I don’t see a problem with 6 cold mages using Blizzard

You will when one big white mob mows them all down.

I’m a 62 necro brother. I been there done that. 12 hours ago~

How, when the monsters are stunned?

They leap from off screen brother. You must of not seen all the monster types.

Capstone Dungeon 2 is where you start seeing the pain.
