I have been thinking about how to make the skill tree more interesting and I’ve come up with a few ideas I thought I’d share in case the devs are interested.
For reference I sit somewhere between casual and hardcore.
Guiding principles
The skill tree should be:
- Fully customisable (no barriers to respeccing, a wide variety of options for every skill)
- Allow players to build their own class fantasy (I.e you can build beyond just the basic skills offered to you, like a blood mage who is a sorcerer that can spec into necro spells as well maybe)
- Creativity (again, something that encourages trying lots of different combinations of skills and skill points to see what is both strong, fun, and aligns with the ‘fantasy’ of what you want your character to be)
Some suggestions:
- A skill tree that changes based on the skills you have equipped (skill points both strengthen and customise individual skills but you can choose ways that skill interacts with other skills you have equipped)
- Some skills should be generalised and not class specific to allow for more customisable class fantasy (as well as allowing for a more general toolkit available which can help reduce weaknesses in some classes)
- More options to build offense into defence (ways you can build offensive capabilities into defensive skills, like making thorns more interesting and interactive)
Anyway, these are just some ideas that I personally would love. Having endless ways to build and customise my skill tree would give me way more to do in the game and would add a big element of excitement into it for me.
