I would love to see Blizzard add sub classes , have a drop down for each class at character selection, when you click on the drop down menu you different sub classes to choose from for each class, Sorceress, Witch , Archon Mage , for Paladin , Paladin , Crusader, Templar. For Amazon choose between Amazon , Demon Hunter , Valkerie, Maybe for barbarian choose between D2 barb or d4 barb or maybe Barbarian or Dark Knight etc… or add some specialization or ascendancy we can earn at some point in game to specialize into these different subclasses.
What do you guys think about this idea?
I hate it.
Now, I don’t hate you and I don’t hate the concept, but every time a game has tried to do this they screw it up where the “subclass” or “ascendancy” becomes the main class. You don’t take a Knight to become a Death Knight. You are a Death Knight who has to go through being a Knight first. The fact that you can become a Siege Commander just doesn’t matter. The curse of the Meta spares no one.
We have that already.
Spiritbirn gets to choose two subclasses with their Hall.
Paladin gets to choose a subclass with their Order.
Even Barbarian gets a subclass with Weapon Specialization.
Druid gets Spirit Animals.
The real Druid subclasses are Bear, Wolf, Shifter, or Human.

Blizzard struggles with supporting build diversity (intentionally, many would argue, to push FOTM gameplay) without adding another system for build differentiation.
I don’t have faith that this wouldn’t devolve into certain subclasses being obvious winners and losers by multiple orders off magnitude each season.
If Blizzard could show a track record of actually supporting there being more builds on par with each other instead of only different builds each season (but the same small number), then sure, maybe.
