Stuttering and freezing in menus, open world, near players

So i’m getting the stuttering and freezing that a lot of people seem to be experiencing. In dungeons my gameplay is smooth 120 fps no drops, beautiful. As soon as I go into open world it all goes to hell. Here’s a list of everything that seems to cause freezing for me:

  • Opening UI elements like skills or paragon board for first time. After initial freeze it will be ok for a while, even if I close and reopen again but it occurs again later on.
  • Leaving a town or populated area, seems like it’s loading or something but it freezes game for at least 2 - 10 seconds. This also occurs if running around with horse and moving to new areas.
  • Whenever a player comes near me in open world, instant freeze for 2 - 10 seconds. Legion events and World bosses as soon as I get near, instant freeze. Once it recovers its all good but it shouldn’t be happening at all.
-Sometimes freezing will crash game altogether.

I have tried all fixes I have seen around (disable crossplay, force directx 11.1, turn off hardware acceleration, sacrifice small goat) and have had no success. Is this game just busted and we have to hope that they fix it someday? It just seems like there is no solution for this problem, it’s been ongoing since launch and I still haven’t seen a 100% fix for it, 3 months later. Maybe it’s just my computer but idk, seems like a lot of people are experiencing the same thing. Really frustrating, might have to drop the game for a few months and wait and see if they fix this trainwreck.

Although I am not experiencing game crashing, I totally agree with all of that.

After patch 1.1.1 some issues are fixed, but I believe that a 5600x processor, with 32GB RAM, 7900XT and 980 Pro Nvme should run the game at 4K resolution and 60FPS without any issue at all.

In open world the game stutters when I change area. Especially in Caldeum areas the stutter is really annoying. When I am playing inside dungeons, gameplay is much smoother.

I read many threads here and on other sites and tried a lot of suggested options, but nothing seems to improve gameplay.

Here’s the thing and why I suspect you, like many others and myself included, are having trouble with this.

You see, the categorization of “small” as it refers to “goat “ can be somewhat misleading as goat sizes are not universally standardized, especially but not exclusively, when it comes to goats specifically chosen for sacrificial purposes.

As such, it is entirely possible when sacraficing your “small” goat you may have indeed been, albeit unknowingly, sacraficing a goat on the smaller end of “medium” or conversely the larger end of the “extra small” scale.

This doesn’t even take into account if the proper tool was implemented for said sacrifice or whether or not you rotated in the proper counterclockwise direction beforehand, not once or twice but no less and no more than thrice, but I digress.

I’m sorry I can’t be of further help but as Blizz have pledged their soul to their dark lord, Activision, perhaps they can be of better assistance with such occult matters.

Good luck in your endeavors.

that one additional storage tab is causing massive performance issues lol…

You have to love those naive Junior-Developers at Blizzard

Having similar issues. The game stutters when clicking on vendors, running to a different area on the map, or when an elite is about to die. :frowning:

Well I have managed to find a solution to my issues, though I am doubtful it will really help anyone else unfortunately. Basically I did two things, so I’m not sure which one fixed it but I will list both. The first thing I did was uninstall the High Quality textures, then I reinstalled them. The second thing I did was move my Diablo 4 install from my HDD to a SSD (honestly don’t know why it was installed there in the first place). I am now getting pretty much no stuttering, even around players which is a massive improvement. Might just have the motivation to get to 100 now.

Note: Before you troubleshoot this issue, check the Diablo IV System Requirements to make sure your computer’s hardware meets the minimum requirements.

** Diablo IV will attempt to run on hardware below minimum specifications, including HDDs, dual-core CPUs, and Integrated GPUs. However, the game experience may be significantly diminished.

Most modern games require installation on SSD and swap file enabled on auto which should also be on the SSD.
