SO im level 63 and i die far too easy. I can’t do hell tides and have trouble clearing dungeons my own level. I’m Ice Shards Sorc pretty much followed Kripps guide and would be very appreciative for any tips. Is this a hard spot for sorcs or should it be easy? I don’t know if i just suck or it’s a hard part of leveling.
You can stack DR stats like armor %, flat DR and conditional DR on your chest/pants and use disobidence + 1-2 other defensive aspects. Put skulls in jewelry.
I use a chest with defensive stats over my raiments most of the time because I don’t like being squishy, but the pull and stun are useful for bursting things. My chest has armor %, flat dr and DR against burning and my pants have armor %, flat dr, dr against burning and dr against close.
No idea what Kripps guide is but if it’s like maxroll guides it probably skips a lot of defensive stuff on paragon boards you could pick up if you feel too squishy. Their guides don’t get any legendary nodes, but I like the Icefall legendary node for defenses.
I gave up an ult on my ice shards sorc to have blizzard to cast so I have a way to chill/freeze things outside of frost nova CDs. It’s amusing to cast on large groups. Maxroll uses meteor for the immobilize, which can be nice for burst damage I’m sure, but it’s also a less defensive choice and you don’t need the extra offensive value if you can’t even survive currently.
Are you just doing open world stuff while leveling, or are you doing NM dungeons? If NM dungeons, what tier? What world tier are you in?
have you farmed all your Lilith statues yet, if not, that will drastically help
I also used Kripp’s guide, but I also looked at icy veins, maxroll, and d4builds too. They all differ to varying degrees, so I kinda just used a modified version of Kripp’s build (a few different legendary aspects and stat affixes). I also use Raiment of the Infinite instead of a defensive chest armor. I’m level 67 and I don’t have problems with hell tide. You just have to learn to use your defensive skills correctly.
I have the frostblitz aspect on my helm, which gives you an extra charge of frost nova. So what I do is teleport stomp a mob to group them together, cast frost nova, and then the entire mob literally just explodes instantly with ice shards flying in all directions. And if there are 8 or more enemies that died to the frost nova, the cooldown on the second charge of frost nova gets cut by 8 seconds (the cooldown reduction for frost nova on kill gets doubled if you use frostblitz aspect). And while the second charge is on cooldown, you still have another charge to use (and if you kill 8 enemies again, the cooldown gets reduced by 8 seconds again, which gets your other charge off cooldown so you can do it again.) It’s quite nice and satisfying.
i havent collected all statues yet? why is it so important?
You get a total of 68 points to all the main stats each (Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, etc)
You get 4 paragon points
You can hold more Obols
There about 150 to collect, but you could get em all in a couple of hours with a visual guide
ok ty will do them now
and plus they are permanent buffs for every season so its worth the investment to do them now for the long run
I feel my life is rather low at 2327 is that pretty low for level 64?
you’re feeling weak not because of your health pool but because Sorcerers rely on Elemental Resistance for survivability more than any class and that’s not being improved upon until Season 2
ok ty didn’t know that
The thing to note when following these build guides is that they’re taking advantage of damage mechanics that are overkill for the level of content you’re currently struggling with. You’re talking about world content and equal level dungeons, where ice shards build guides are aiming for enough damage to take on content many levels above you.
While if you choose to, you can play in lower content in the same way you would higher content (you have to be more strategic and avoid getting hit), you could also choose to be tankier if you wanted by focusing on the stats I mentioned above. You could go all out defensively on chest, pants and have a defensive aspect on helm pants and chest and be much tankier in equal level content if that’s what you wanted to do. Disobedience + an immunity bubble proc + something like damage reduction on vulernable/cc are 3 examples of defensive aspects you could use.
Damage wise in equal level content, simply having vulnerable, high crit chance and even a single stack of aspect of control just from freezing things is more than enough damage for the level of content you’re currently struggling with. At least it was for me, though I should also mention I got a 813 item power wand at level 63 or so with crit damage and vulnerable damage the day I got to WT4 and didn’t replace it until the 90s with a minor upgrade.
If you’re still in WT3, moving on to WT4 as soon as possible will give you much better item power level drops (and if you want to solo the capstone as a sorc you’d need much better defenses). Ancestral gear has a minimum level requirement of 60, so moving into WT4 as soon as you can 60+ will be way better for gear upgrades than staying in WT3 that doesn’t frequently see gear higher than 700 item power if I remember correctly.
63 was a pain until I turned to a mix of hydra blizzard and shards. Hydra to pull enemies, blizzard for the mana buff, and shards as the main damage. In the 60’s mana was always a problem.
70’s it becomes the realization it won’t get better. Gear caps at ilvl 819. So it is a struggle between 73 and 100. It - so far - hasn’t gotten any easier. Worse, is a buddy has an 80 druid in bear form and he is doing 40 times my damage. Yes, 40 times. I do 20k max, he punts 250k to 500k.
As for staying alive, just accept you will die a lot. If in groups, at least the repair bill is less. Anyone telling you different has a monetary source they are trying to protect.
And yes, 2k life is very low for a sorcerer. Use any piece of gear that adds 750+ life. If you see anything with life AND mana - even better. My life is now 9200 at 85. Mana is 179 or so.
And not so funny - I do NM21’s … it is all I can stand. Every other dungeon they drop the Butcher on me and use up one of the 4 revives a NM allows. I have had two Butchers in one dungeon, too. He loves me.
No idea what kripps guide is but more information…
- I am assuming you are still in WT3 yes?
- How is your gear? Like have you upgraded any of it, did you socket it, etc?
- Are you taking all damage stuff or do you have defensives too?
You really shouldn’t be struggling too much doing dungeons of your own level. Kripp is a decent player so I am going to assume his actual build is ok. My guess is your gear is either too hodge podge that doesn’t synergize with your build or you haven’t upgraded/socketed any of it. You probably will have times that you are waiting on cooldowns and such but it shouldn’t be a struggle where you are dying a lot at your own level.
what paragon board did you go with after the starter board? I went and got the legendary node that grants barriers when killing frozen, this helps immensely.
At 63 you will need topaz in armor. Rolls you need is damage reduction from close , flat damage reduction, percentage armor, life or damage from burning. Also don’t go for resistance nodes only armor or life
Put Armor jewels in rings and amu, use the 30min buff, which gives highest Armor.
Use on amu the legendary affixe with +40% Armor on 100 stacks, which is +60% on amu.
You want Armor, Armor, and more Armor for sorc, best defence stat of the game at the moment.
If you want to do a build for easy mode, that will work well enough up to nm 70+ sigils go hybrid ice shards and blizzard with use spikes. I use the aspect that also adds vulnerable on frozen 35% Chance and it made things alot easier. Also go into devour and pick up flame shield and run through elites you casted blizzard on and use the enchant that immobilizes for 3 seconds. Maybe that will help some. Only 1 point in blizzard and the passives to make it 12 seconds (3 points total) u need the ice spikes on blizzard “glacial” in amulet, and any version of frozen tundra. It’s helped me clear 60-65 nm sigils outside of a few one shots at level 93. I invested hard into ice shards, use gloves with +3… and if you get unique fists if fate you can look to invest in lucky hit chance as your attacks proc immobilize all the time which gives you the 150x damage from devor… at a distance. Also make sure you are levels by your glyphs … even if you are doing lower nm dungeons. But level exploit, control, destruction, frostbite as a start I would say. Blizzard is great for cc, and your damage comes from the use spikes aspect. At 93 I can smash 65 bosses immediately o stagger, ice spikes them selves hit for 250k and my ice shards hit for 250k-600k depending on the fists of fate proc. You can also use a avalanche for a bit and move to the Shatter once you have mana under control. Target + mana in helm, maybe one right, 27+18, and then cdr, mcr, and resource generation. Also how others has mentioned I use a chest with all dr % flat DR 10% I believe, then like 25 to close and 25 to distant. Also have a helm that has 1k life, + 27 mana, cdr, and I think like 30 or 40 all stats or something like that to hit paragon requirements.
