Stop Shop Notifications

Maybe I’m just dumb but the predatory practice of adding stuff to the shop everyday so we always have to click on it and hover/click on the sets to make it go away infuriates me. Can you at least add an option to turn shop notifications off? (maybe it exists and i just didn’t notice; if so, ignore me)

Stop calling it predatory. It’s not.
It’s advertising, marketing.

Haven’t you ever seen a TV commercial? I bet you call those predatory also.

And I’ve never once had to click on anything related to the shop to make it go away.

Nag notifications are designed to be annoying so people will interact with it to go away. When the game first launched it was gear rotation once per week. Now it rotates daily and each time you log in there is a yellow icon over the shop tab on the map screen until you go to the shop to get rid of it.

The idea is the more they get people interacting with the shop, the higher chance that they may actually buy something. It’s less like traditional advertising and more like if someone came up to you each day and stuck a post-it note on your chest that you had to remove. Or you can just live with it stuck there, all depends on how annoying you find it

That same icon is on the consumables, quests, and aspect tabs every time you zone. Are those considered predatory also by having to click on them to remove the icon?

You people really need to grow up and learn what that word actually means. You’ve watered down its meaning considerably.

I never said they were predatory. I was explaining why they do it, and yes they do design them to look exactly like other important in game notifications because people get conditioned into paying attention to them.

Do you mean the exclamation mark on the shop icon at the top of the map?

Hit M > View top of map > Shop has an Exclamation mark on it.

I am not aware that it shows up anywhere else other than if you go looking at the shop icon. Am I wrong about that? Are there invasive popups in game, or any other place the shop is visible? It does not have pop-ups saying “check out the shop” or anything that disrupt gameplay does it?

I only ask because on PC those don’t exist. I am not sure if you also play console and it is different there.

I mean, daily specials or new items being advertise on a shop is not new. My local restaurants do it, the grocery store does it, etc. I have to go there to see it though so I don’t consider it predatory. They are not trying to trick me or make me buy something through devious means.

I know, that comment was more directed toward the OP.

Is that what the deck of cards icon is for? I spend no time looking at that.

That means you have something new in your Wardrobe I think - it showed up when I go the free tunic cosmetic from the Season Pass. I DID go look at it, but the icon did not go away. Not stressed about it. I know it exists to let people know how to find their new cosmetics. It does not mean go buy something and there is no shop link in the Wardrobe. I think the OP means the Exclamation icon on the word Shop if you go look at the Map and look at the shop link.

If I paid for a movie off of Amazon and then had to watch a commercial in the middle of it? I’d be pissed and rightfully so; your analogy is either terrible or a perfect example of why you’re wrong. Forcing people to navigate their shop to remove the bright, obnoxious, flashing, ‘LOOK AT ME’ toast every time they log in is predatory. Remember that it cannot be disabled. Same with not having confirmation windows on the battlepass and a number of other things they do.

A real-money shop when built obtrusively into the UI is predatory or poor design. I’ll concede that it might be both.

It would also be nice if there was a way to remove the flashing [!] alerts for certain things. I don’t need a permanent flashing alert on the MAP tab because I still have a season journey quest. I need an option to ‘mark all as seen’ for cosmetics as the mount cosmetics seems broken and won’t recognize that it’s already been seen.

Of course it’s predatory.

Money is the sustenance it seeks. Customers attracted/compelled by psychological trickery are the prey from which it attempts to extract this sustenance.

It wants to force or trap people into thinking they need something so that it can prey on them. Sounds pretty predatory to me…

Making the shop available is fine and good. There’s nothing inherently predatory about that. It allows those interested to find something they want.

But forcing a nag in front of their face constantly and making them go through an annoying ritual to get rid of it is gross.

It’s unfortunate, but by design, that some are so inured of such activities that they no longer see it as invasive.

Pushy advertising is an act of mental violence, plain and simple.

It’s not a free to play game at the very least I paid upfront not to be advertised to. Your statement is pathetic and makes you sound like a simple minded idiot willing to be taken advantage of and happy about it. Who wants to be manipulated?

It’s really REALLY annoying, the nagging in the game in general has to go away or be optional. This is not a F2P game, we paid for the game and it wasn’t cheap.

When I have already looked at the exact same notification six times in the last two days, I do not want to be notified that it’s STILL THERE. I do not want to know that the new, over-priced thing I just saw a few hours ago is still there, not new, and still over-priced. I have come, I have seen, and the product is unwanted.
