Blizzard (and I) understand that allowing offline play for an online game would just result in people hacking and duping like crazy offline. Then they will bring their hacked items and artificially earned levels/gains into online mode and ruin the gameplay for the rest of us. Why would I want to play with people who blatantly cheated? No thanks.
Update: This old thread was bumped but I stand behind what I said considering all the exploits that occurred in this game. I firmly believe if offline mode was released tomorrow thereād be people bringing in hacked ilvl 9999 rares from their offline characters and selling them on Eternal and Seasonal that same day. Look at what happened on season 1 recently with Eternal Realm characters able to exploit transfer the characters into seasons. Tell me Iām not rightā¦

The only good thing about offline play is it allows for modding.

Sorry lord OP. Wonāt happen again. I swear Iāll do better to conform to your demands.

Cheating is irrelevant unless you care about the PvP. Trading is pretty much non-existent/prohibited anyways.
All cheating/hacking is going to do is get BIS and max level faster.

Havenāt other games already solved this by separating offline from online play?

Being able to inject offline stuff into online play would be a severe case of incompetence.

Cheaters donāt affect my gameplay experience whatsover.
There is no player economy in this game so they could dupe and exploit all they want, wow, they kill the only Uber boss in the game. So cool. Much achievement.

who cares how other people want to play the game lol.
Diablo 2 , the old battlenet, had an offline single player mode and a bnet mode for multiplayer.
They could easily implement a system in any of their games, they are actively choosing not to do that at this point.
Itās probably only for anti-piracy reasons, but in my opinion, isnāt ethical.

They are never doing this period. Just look at d3 people said the same thing , its always online game.
When you complain about a game and want change this is not how you do it. D4 was not designed as a singleplayer offline game, that is not magically going to change now. They are not going to do an open battle.net seneraio either.
Look at how the game is designed and see the vision of the devs, 99 percent of things people are asking for are unrealistic here.

They can add a toggle at character creation to select online or offline. You wouldnāt be able to cross play.

Last Epoch does this, but they are now dependent on Steam, so, for instance, a DDOS against Steam could affect being able to play that game.
I think the days of fully offline games are rapidly dwindling, unfortunately.
Who cares. Off-line characters stay offline. It would be seperate from online.

And honestly not being offline isnāt necessarily an issue, but people/companies need to invest more in infrastructure. So much penny pinching goes on itās silly. Itās one thing for me to pinch pennies as Iām not making $100Mās in profit every quarter.

Then why not make an offline game, like they did for Diablo 1 and 2 originally? Problem solved. Make checks for valid characters once they try to log in to multiplayer games, but leave us who play these games in campaign mode for storytime alone (and let us mod the game if there are things we feel need adjustment). So long as ācheatingā only is permitted in local games, not online, I see absolutely zero problems with it.
So no, I wonāt stop asking for offline play.
In fact, I purchased the game for PS(4), and the experience there so far hasnāt been very good because of battle.net issues. Were Blizzard to offer D4 as a single player, not network game, I would purchase it instantly for PC as well. I play these games for the story of Sanctuary, not for finding THE most damaging weapon in the game. In fact, if I could avoid seeing people named e.g., āInstantDeath30303022ā running about in town I would think the game far more immersive than it is now. Multiplayer does not interest me at all, apart from couch co-op with the boss. Errrrr, wife.

That would be ideal, for the playerbase. Make it primary an offline game. With multiplayer capability. Where online characters are 100% stored on the server, and 100% separate from offline characters.
But, Blizzard makes more money making it an āonline serviceā game. Sucks, but it is what it is.

This is such a bad take. Obviously you canāt bring offline characters into online play. Never played D2R I take it.

Online-only is most likely a core part of their server-client architecture so I would not be surprised if its technically possible but logistically impossible. The client is probably inoperable w/o the online services and Blizzard is not going to deploy the server components.
For sure. The decision to sacrifice players n the altar of the cash shop must have been made early, and represents a fundamental architectural decision.
Which is sad. There will come a day when the servers are shut down, and D4 stops existing, while D1-D2 continue to be playable. All these live service games will be lost to history.
oh no cheaters in an offline game. we need to provide this and make the game for all bad!

Iāve heard of some private D4 servers already. Havenāt checked them out, but there is proof of them existing.
