From the design side, it is important to us that the player feels they are isolated as they wander around the world. Particularly when you’re not in cities, the likelihood of you coming across other players is fairly low. We don’t allow for a very high number of players to exist in the regular regions around the world.
[…] when you’re just wandering around in places like the tundra in the Fractured Peaks when you’re doing a side quest or whatever it is, it is much less likely for you to come across other players because the caps for those regions are lower.
And we’re not doing that for a technical consideration. We’re doing that specifically because we want to ensure we have created a certain sensibility around the experience as you’re progressing through.
It doesn’t matter that it isn’t an MMO. Other games like this have global chat channels. It isn’t unusual to expect it here ESPECIALLY if there are group events or trade.
No because I didn’t try to trade anything in beta. Doesn’t change the fact that people enjoy global chat in games like this and for those people who don’t they can simply turn it off.
I think a lot of people don’t have it cross their mind when they are just checking out a beta, or when they are leveling and playing around with builds. I know when I’m trying to test out a new build, I probably want to do it solo so I can get a better feel for how it compares.
But the lack of any sort of grouping or matchmaking feature will probably start to stick out more as people reach higher levels, are settled into their builds, and want to get into more sigil dungeons with other players.
I don’t think it will take long before a lot of players are thinking, why don’t we have this simple feature that exists in almost every modern online multiplayer game?
You use chat, I am confused, do you not play many games online? Few people want a button that you just click that pops you somewhere. The Diablo community plays games to be immersed in the story that the developers intended, hence chatting and connecting with others. I dont believe you have to run content with others besides the world boss but you just run to that.
Very strange take, so you have the tool to connect with others, but just as a child is asked to go to bed you stomp the floor and say NO I dont want that. I think you will be unhappy no matter what. Best of luck out there buddy.
First off, the OP mentioned chat and how there didn’t appear to be a global chat (or maybe it simply didn’t work in beta)
For group finders, they don’t have to automatically take you somewhere. They can just be tools to list your group or apply to one listed and then everyone still has to make their way to the dungeon.
Saying that no one wants them and would rather use chat is just beyond silly. Go to a game that has lfg tools, and see how many people are spamming chat instead of using those those tools. How many people are in WoW spamming chat for a m+ or raid group? Zero. (Unless they are selling carries). Everyone uses the LFG board because it is simply superior in every way.
