Status of this game?

This is a legitimate question. I am not trolling or trying to incite forums users, but I have to ask this question :

What is the current status of this game? Are we in maintenance mode? The last devstream, the patch notes, the lack of any meaningful event based content ; it all seems just devoid of any real effort. Like they are just trying to slap something together patchwork style. Are they running on a skeleton crew? IDK, it just seems totally lacking , and Im surprised how little human resources they seem to be managing this game with.

Par for the course over the past year and then some since launch.

Season comes out with a decent amount of changes, possibly some extra content.

Midseason patch hits fixing some bugs, along with buffing some classes, leaving bugs in that may boost other builds to hilarious damage numbers.

New Season hits fixing those bugs that made other builds OP, new bugs form, new builds are now OP.

Rinse repeat.

Not sure what kind of answer you’re looking for though.

Seriously? LMAO. You do realize they just launched an expansion right? Sorry, but your post is ridiculous. Yeah. They are in maintenance mode having just spent a lot of time making and releasing an expansion and likely working on another along with seasonal updates etc.

LMAO uh huh. Sure you aren’t.

Clearly not maintenance mode. But it is likely they scale development back to what they think is sustainable with the existing playerbase.

While you are right in the current case, the decision to put D3 into maintenance mode seemingly came around the time RoS released (and was then semi-moved out of it again later on). It isn’t that unrealistic.

No, the game will continue to develop for the next 8 years until D5 comes out. If your looking for something static in the diablo franchise D1, D2, D2R and D3 are all in maintenance mode.

I dont think its in maintenance mode. I also think they have a large enough staff to make a great game and push a lot of good content/seasons.

What I think is there is too much micro management. Too many meetings. Too much paperwork. Too much needing of things going through approval processes through too many departments including marketing which probably has the final say and the real power of the company.

I also think, while I like the people that come on the live streams that there are too many inexperienced developers. Not enough people that have actual passion for gaming either. And I also think that their directive is to pump up the grind to keep people playing as long as possible rather than just making enough fun to keep people playing. They arent happy enough with players playing one 1-1.5-2 months of the season. They want people to play it like a job and forever game.

You described it pretty well. 2 things to add is:

  1. Their plans are to “tighten things up moving forward”, and to paraphrase a bit “keep things broken as long as some players find it fun”. So don’t expect much dev time in fixing the game up.
  2. The expansion is already 25% off.

All in all, I’d say this paints the picture of yet another live-service game with lackluster success resulting in throttling down production. If you compare what they released last year around this time the difference is staggering. In terms of content, S2 and S3 had the most by a mile. They were swinging at full gears.

Having said that, as long as they have their MTX shop they’ll continue pumping out at least some content.

whole focus was to sell VOH, everything else can be left out.
Heck they even let you try the SB class till 25 to sink their hooks in.

Overall, for those who bought VOH, enjoy SB for the rest of S6. For those who didnt buy VOH, well see you S7.

THIS GAME LAG IS ON ANOTHER LEVEL MAN!

Maintenance mode? Not at all.

They’re all busy designing the next $70 horse skin for the shop.

Yes, what they offer as season themes is pretty lackluster when you for a game of this magnitude.

I guess it has something to do with the fact a huge part of the dev team is busy fixing all the broken stuff cause of an too early release. And i am not talking about bugs.

They literaly changed the loot several times, they changed the leveling experience. This is not “new” content, this is them changing active systems cause they are unhappy about the results. Normaly you release a game and then you focus on new content. They are busy fixing the existing content and then try to sell it as “new” stuff. Loot reborn for example. It*'s like you bought a car with damaged breaks. Then they fix the breaks and try to sell it as someting new while in reality it a must have for any car.

I think he’s looking for “the truth”.

Stop modulating your replies in an attempt to manipulate people.

The core gameplay loop literally hasn’t changed since D3 and the game is already 25% off.

I’ll let you guess its state.

Diablo 1 was more entertaining than this, and you spent most that game holding the LMB clicked.

Ah my bad, so many “truths” going around I can’t keep track. Is he looking for the one that agrees with him?

No he literally said that he’s not trolling and wants an honest answer based on the lack of effort that’s apparent in the latest conversations with the developers and the lack of effort in the expansion itself.

I wasn’t trolling with my response either, it’s been this way since S2 pretty much. I’m not exactly sure what he was expecting, especially when you take into consideration everything that has happened up to this point.

We typically get radio silence until the mid-season patch campfires, and the developer updates that happen a week or two prior to a new season coming out. They aren’t making major changes with a mid season patch, they never have. They also aren’t adding in bucket loads of content between each seasonal patch, only when the seasonal patch hits.

I’m not saying it’s the right way to do things, I’m just saying this is how they have been doing it for the past year. Anyone who has been with the game longer than a season would know this. Judging from the OPs history on the forum, they’ve been here since the beginning and have been decently active.
