More isometric ARPGs should follow the model of GRIM DAWN.
There are no seasons at all, just expansions for major content add-ons.
No reset of characters, no need to be forced to create a new character at all.
Even a character created 10 years ago is viable and can still beat all current content without a problem.
The game has plenty of active players, and never has any need to reset economy due to inflation or whatever reasons and excuses that games like Path Of Exile always come up with.
It is a game you can play forever and even after thousands of hours on one character, you still find things to do.
It proves that Seasons are not needed at all in isometric ARPGs.
My problem with seasons is that they divide the playerbase, half of the people playing the seasons are a half less playing in the āstandardā world and it will feel empty. Diablo 4 has a duality to face, progress your unique character and keep evolving as content is deployed or start over and over with a disposable character every season.
The MMO aspect pushes to stay with your day 1 character and progress a more linear way.
The Seasonal is just forget about your character, start over again and again.
You are confused, characters is not getting reset in seasons. You keep all your nonseason characters in the eternal realm. If you dont want to do seasons, you can ignore them.
This is how Diablo 2 is as well so Iām pretty sure theyāre good on that idea by now
I would assume itās why your characters are on a server called āeternalā if you didnāt notice that part
I do think it would be super annoying re-grinding all the stones and junk every season. Hopefully there is some balance between one-time achievement farming and seasonal stuff
But thatās just it! You wonāt have to! Unless Blizz goes against the grain here, there should be a standard server that doesnāt get reset and gets the current seasons content at the end of that season. Itās pretty much a staple of the genre now.
nobody forces you to restart and play seasons ⦠just play non-season till you are full.
Season are the only thing i play in D3 because i have everything and game is kinda boring cuz i have everything and nothing else for me to do in non-season
I am just sad that almost no updates actually stayed in the game ⦠they were only temporary
The season system also has a very serious side effect:
The player population will be greatly forced to divert to two places!
And after the end of each season, most of these populations will not return to the normal mode!
In the end, the economic transactions and fun of the general model are reduced to 0, the whole becomes desolate, and everyone is tired of starting from scratch countless times!
I agree 100%. This unfortunately seems to be the direction these games have gone. PoE is another example of this. But having to extract all those legendary powers again, start farming for those crafting materials again, etc, that all gets extremely old and tedious.
Honestly, they need to remove the separation of seasonal/non-seasonal characters. It splits and divides the playerbase. What they need to do instead:
1. Every so often (2-3 months), release new content: Much like how D3 season introduces new mechanics. A new buff or something that incentivises certain playstyles. Or a new boss/dungeon.
2. Create āChallenges/Achievementsā around the new content. This way, people that want the rewards (like in D3 seasons), can do those and get the rewards. If you dont care about the rewards, you just dont do them, but still get to enjoy the new content.
3. People that want to participate in seasons/rewards still can, people that dont care still get to experience the new content, and the world is no longer split between seasonal/non-seasonal characters.
I donāt understand, who is forcing you to play season is we have seasons?
You can just simply have your character and never play seasons, and always play standard game.
Question is, why do you want to limit other people to play the same? What does hurt you if someone else makes every season 10 new characters and abandons them after, and never plays standard game? Is like you want other players to play only what YOU like, not what they like.
Historically, seasonal rewards included special pets/cosmetics. The people that dont want to start over every season, are missing out on those exclusive rewards.
They are also missing out on the items they wont buy from the cosmetic shops, so I donāt see how this makes it better.
Then they will complain they donāt get free stuff, while other people bought stuff? We all know this game will have cosmetics.
The one thing I dislike about seasons is the rebirth system. I hate making a new character for every season. In D3 I have once of each and I really donāt want to keep making others. So you know, more rebirths.
exactly. if there is nothing interesting in new season then iām sticking with non-season. if the new season has something that looks interesting then iāll play it. choose 1 or the other.
