Neyrelle outsmarts two Horadrims: you are kind of dumb so I will travel alone, because as a teenager i’m so good
Inarius: i’m good, you all bad, sanctuary is bad, i’m going to abandon every single purpose why i created sanctuary because I am prophesied to pierce a spear into the heart of hatred * hit liliths belly *
and i’m just going back to heaven, WHY HEAVEN? NOOOO * dies *
Lilith: i’m going to repeat for the 30x time, i’ll help sanctuary… * dies*
you reminded me of something worse than that, the fact that the main character is forced to refuse help from lilith and is forced to accept help from mephisto
I thought this would happen, the course of events seemed that at a certain point we would choose between mephisto and lilith… unfortunately we are forced to do what happened
If they made choices where the final boss would change between Lilith with prime evil essence or Mephisto it would be much better than the current undercookd ending
I think they really plan on stretching out the lore over a few expansions. I really believe Lilith had good intentions for humanity. Sure she done some evil things but she was doing them to achieve her goal…
This is how i could see it playing out. Mephisto manipulated Ney into doing what she done. Mephisto will come to full power. Humanity will not be able to stop him alone. WE will have to resummon Lilith to help take him down.
Will be interesting for sure. I liked the campaign. Would have been amazing to have different endings with a ultimatum.
I loved the idea of starting the campaign seeking to destroy Lilith, then slowly realizing she’s actually more of a chaotic good/neutral “antagonist” only concerned about saving Sanctuary (a goal you actually do share with her). Found that possible arc to be intriguing, and was eager to watch my shift to a chaotic good hero with her…which I thought was culminating in the nightmare where I was thinking I was being reminded of all the “bad” things I did for the “greater good” and realize I actually am the same as her.
And I loved that concept. And it certainly aligned with the devs desire to make it “darker” than the previous game.
However, very little of what happened mattered in the end, and even the big moment the entire campaign was building up to one of them officially taking Tyreal’s role in the story, even if momentarily (ie, facing the decision to imprison her or Mephisto and thus allying with the other), it gets completely ruined by letting someone other than the hero make the decision and thus completely shattering the huge moment where you, as the hero, officially sides with one and takes the official step into the gray away from the light. Instead, I weaseled out of the decision altogether and still managed to both imprison one and kill the other. Seems too…easy?
I loved the idea of being forced to choose between either Mephisto or Lilith to basically replace Tyreal as your “moral compass” despite being obviously morally flawed characters. I loved the idea of one of them basically steering the end-game activities to make you feel like your slaying/murdering/etc is for a dubious-at-best greater good, thus cementing your shove into the gray area between light and darkness. Instead we get a … tree … telling us what to do that was barely even in the campaign. Really?
The entire end of the build-up was an absurd let-down where the only clear reason is to bring back the prime evils in future expacs (it is called DIABLO after all, I guess…), but they could’ve done it with a far more interesting way.
Lilith is a murderer of countless of people when she let the denizens of hell ravage the land, not including the cold blooded head-stabbing she gave Donan’s kid and the violent torturous end she gave that arch druid. Yet you clowns on here buy into her bs like she was a saint? She deserved to be destroyed just as bad as the primes.
Literally no one has ever said that, not in this thread or any other
Preferring that she survive and be more worked on in Diablo 4 lore is not the same thing as thinking she is a saint.
Absolutely, yes. You see how ugly she really is in her true form too. Her pretty girl physique is just another Illusion of lies. She is just as ugly as her father. She’s also a thief along with Inarius. They STOLE the World Stone to create the abomination of Sanctuary.
you are wrong, that simple
There are two major ways to finish the ending of the standard edition:
a) Inarius and Lilith can help humans survive against prime evils, making it more believable that a human/nephalem can defeat them
b) The current finale, inarius and lilith die for free and effortlessly.
Prime evils start the siege against the sanctuary, 99% of humanity is useless, but a nephalem comes out of nowhere and defeats all demons simultaneously, similar to the end of D3.
In my opinion option B is total garbage.
and unfortunately it’s probably what we’re going to have in the expansions
The protagonist and everyone living there benefits from that abomination though, so I’m not even sure who’s side you’re on.
I’m confused myself cause Lilith was literally the lesser of two evils. She wanted to end the conflict (by winning), so as far as I was concerned she was more aligned to the greater good, though she didn’t care about individual lives it cost to achieve her goal. Nothing suggested she was going to turn around and wipe out sanctuary other than Mephisto.
Trying not to be mean here. You guys are idiots though. Do you really think coming into Sanctuary like a tyrant, releasing hell on every thing with a pulse is the way to show you care? How is it for you clueless imbecils to realize she murdered countless thousands of people and didn’t even give a crap when she was released. Did you see all the cults of Lilith and Succubus of Lilith murdering people on spikes? Did you see Yorin get his head impaled by Lilith and killed just so she could get passage to dad’s unholy cathedral? Use your brains. She is not your ally. She deserved death. And she tried to confuse the main hero at the end. Thankfully your hero is not an idiot and didn’t fall for it.
If things were different when Elias brought her into Sanctuary and she didn’t start murdering people I may have cared for her more.
Yeah, so its better to ally ourselves with Mephisto, Lord of Hatred.
Because he didn’t kill anyone during his time.
Whats better than to release one of the three prime evils into sanctuary.
But hey, he didn’t kill directly anyone in D4, so he’s the good guy right?
I struggled with this too, but the narrative problem with Diablo is the hero is nameless and without identity so to continue the story, the choice needs to be carried by someone else. Much like Tyrael destroying the worldstone.
Necro, a son of rathma, rathma a son of Lilith, runs directly into the church, because random dude tells, the crazy church, who normally burns every necro they catch on a pile of wood…
