The new spectral ash scrolls that generate reputation for season caches introduced in the latest patch are are a welcome mechanic to make boss farming less annoying.
When you’ve reached T4 boss farming level, you’ll usually kill regular bosses only to get Belial mats (Husks), because the chances of getting an ancestral unique (let alone a Mythic) are rather low, especially for the low-tier ladder bosses that can be one-shot (Grigoire, Varshan, Ice Beast and Zir).
If you are unlucky, you do 10 bosses and don’t see a single Belial encounter. I find this loop extremely annoying atm, but with the spectral ash caches it becomes a bit more bearable.
Here are the numbers:
- You need 72000 reputation to buy a season cache
- Each boss gives you around 5000 reputation
- Each boss gives you around 165 spectral ash
- A reputation scroll costs 250 ash and gives you 6000 reputation
This means if you kill 8 bosses (no matter which one), you get 40.000 reputation from the kills and about 5 scrolls that trade for 30000 reputation, which will give you one cache.
The loot from the caches is pretty good, it will often have ancestral uniques and legendaries.
Personally I’d like to see spectral ash added to every single endgame activity in T3 and T4.

I’m not opposed to this, I like the idea of finding ways to make activities have more reward potential.
But honestly I’d rather see loot returned to killing monsters.
Dropped loot has been so gutted because of complaints that “OMG thIs LOOT gAmE hAs 2 mUcH looT” that almost none of it actually comes from killing monsters.
It’s all treasure chests, caches, and bosses. Case in point, did an NMD recently - exactly one piece of equipment dropped by a monster; did a helltide, all equipment came from blood maiden (boss,) hellbourne (boss,) events (boss + chest,) and chests (chests lol.)
They could make the game a thousand times more compact, remove all regular and elite monsters and just have chests and bosses drop more gold and honestly the loot hunt would play the same.
I dont think it should be a standardized thing in a season right from the start.
However, i dont mind it as a catch up mechanic at a certain point of a season.

I think it’s a good idea to give some kind of boss reputation we can use to buy:
- 1 Resplendent Spark (for 100 boss kills)
- chest with 5 GA items (for 10 boss kills) with high chance for more than 1 GA.
- chest with 5 GA uniques (for 20 boss kills) with high chance for more than 1 GA.
- 30 million gold (for 10 boss kills)
And 40 % of the boss kills needed for Tier-2 bosses like Durial, etc.
And 20 % of the boss kills needed for Tier-3 boss Belial.
Ancestral drop rates needs to be adjusted as well, but this is an unrelated idea.
