My friends and I have had a bit of a debate regarding how the soulspire works in the Infernal Hordes instance.
One of them believes that it doesn’t matter where we kill the mobs, as long as our character is standing within the circle.
I think that the mobs need to be within the circle, and it’s not necessary for our character to be in it (although it obviously helps with efficiency since the mobs typically follow us; my best tactic is to stand by the wall at the edge of the circle).
Another friend of mine thinks that both of us are correct; meaning that if we stand in the circle and shoot outward or if the mobs are inside the circle, it will count either way.
Honestly, I’m not even sure it matters if you kill the mobs or not, I think it time based. You need to stay a certain amount of time within the circle to make it disappear. From the 100+ I did it’s how it looks to me.
Guys, thanks for the answers. But, if you’re right, then please explain this:
Wowhead Infernal Hordes guide:
“Soulspire — Timed + Stationary — Slay foes near the Soulspire to gain Aether. Killing enemies within the Spire’s ring will destroy it. This event is triggered by player proximity, time-to-kill is dependent on enemy density and can take relatively longer, and initially drops 1 Aether after being destroyed.”
And why is there an offer that says “Soulspires pull foes inward” if it’s not because the point of the circle is for the mobs to die in it?
No. You can see on the right where like the questlog type stuff is. You have to kill 30 mobs. If you took a spire boon that is x2 kill for x2 aether then you need to kill 60 mobs.
The guy that said as long as you are in the circle it doesnt matter where the mobs is, is correct. Honestly I have been slightly outside the circle and had it still count but mostly you need to be in the circle. It doesnt matter if the mobs are in the circle when they die or not.
This guy says its time based hahah thats funny dude… im laughing hard rn. But seriously if you guys havent been able to observe how it works after doing it for two weeks then idk what to say fellaz haha
They can believe all they want. Mobs killed outside of the circle beyond the “grace point” which is slightly outside of the red line, won’t count.
This is correct. You can eliminate a soulspire from outside so long as the mobs that die are within the spire’s radius.
Only mobs killed within the spire’s radius (plus a small grace point since being too exact would mean far fewer successful kills) count. The only thing that matters is where the mob dies. The player can be inside or ourside of the spire. The one aspect I don’t know is whether or not the health drain from the “boon” list will affect you from outside of the spire’s radius as I’ve never chosen that boon.
Mobs outside of the radius + grace point won’t count. Fire off a frozen orb and let it hit mobs well outside that circle and watch the progress bar not move.
I’ve eliminated soulspires from the center of the arena from my frozen orbs picking off mobs while they were inside the spire’s radius. It isn’t time based and they will persist until the end of the wave if you don’t meet the criteria for eliminating them.
one person in the party must be in the circle. it doesnt matter where the mobs are. it doesnt matter if the person killing the mobs isnt in the spire, as long as 1 person is standing in the circle. you could stand in the circle and not do anything and your friend be on the opposite side killing mobs and it will progress the spire activity
As long as one person is standing inside of the circle any mob killed will count, even if it’s a party member killing mobs on the other side of the room. It may also work for enemies who are inside of the circle even if you’re not, but I always go inside the circle regardless because it’s simply faster.
You’re wasting time if you’re trying to lure mobs into the circle when you’re already inside of it unless you’re playing a melee spec by yourself and have to have the enemies nearby to get credit, but at that point you should really question why you’re attempting it to begin with.
TLDR: Friend 1 is correct. You may be correct as well but it’s irrelevant since you should always have someone standing in the circle while in a group.
When you’re in a party. My friend and I realized that the mechanics work completely differently in a party compared to when you’re playing solo. The basic question I raised actually referred to single-player gameplay. This might be why the responses are so divided, as everyone experiences something different in party versus solo play
Thank you for the many responses to the question. I’ve done a lot of testing and reading on the topic since then, and here’s my summary:
Solo Play:
The mob must be within the circle when it dies.
The fastest method with AOE builds: stand near the wall at the edge of the circle, as mobs tend to follow you, allowing you to kill the most mobs within the circle as quickly as possible (this method works well in a party too).
The pull inward offer is helpful for solo players and melee characters (who don’t have AOE damage).
Party Play:
At least one person must be within the circle.
The fastest method: one player stands near the wall at the edge of the circle, killing mobs from there, while the other player kills in the rest of the area.
The pull inward offer is useless here, as it only slightly speeds up the mechanics.
Summary: Everyone is right, but everyone has gathered their experiences differently, which is why the answers vary. I generally prefer playing alone, which is why my initial question and my opinion are more aligned with “Solo Play.”
If you still disagree, feel free to reply, and we can discuss it further Have a great day and happy hunting!
