Some thoughts on the VoH campaign (major spoilers read at your own risk)

  • The campaign started out strong, but became somewhat repetitive by the middle of Act 2. Given the ending, I felt like the campaign was too meandering for the story that was actually being told.

  • Urivar had a cool design and seemed like a strong secondary villain at the start of the campaign. However, he was completely sidelined after the introduction and his re-entrance into the main campaign was very sudden and the big reveal about his motivations felt nonsensical. It also seemed like there should have been a player choice at the end of Act 2, but instead the game railroads you into doing something that makes the player character (the wanderer) extremely unlikable. I think that Eru’s role in Act 3 could have been given to Urivar with minimal story changes.

  • The council of Kurast was lame. Ormus was cool, but the rest of the members of the council flip-flopped way too much. What was even Maka’s character?

But most importantly, it feels like the story is moving at a glacial pace. The ending of VoH is basically exactly the same as the ending of the base game. Barely anything has happened, stay tuned for the next episode. It felt like VoH’s campaign could have been a story in one of the seasons. At this rate, it will be like a decade before we actually get to fight Diablo. Overall, the campaign started out very strong but then came to a screeching halt.

Felt a lot like WoW where there are entire patches and expansions with barely any story happening.

We’ll fight him only in D5 lol

I really disliked the VoH campaign, probably the worst story I’ve seen in a Diablo game so far :skull:

SPOILERS:
The major issues I had with the story was that Neyrelle didn’t die and the final boss was a hell puppy instead of Mephisto. Not fighting the lord of hatred himself on “Vessel of Hatred” is like not fight Diablo in “Diablo”. I’m sensing a pattern with this game lol

It’s hard to stay invested when the story is moving so slowly because you know that it will be years before you reach the actual payoff.

Very disappointed in the expansion campaign. I expected atleast a fight with a real prime evil, and all we got was a drawn out and scattered plot that basically led to where we left off at the end of the base game. Big miss imo. Feeling frustrated and a little pissed that now we have wait another 2 years for any sense of progress

I started the main campaign first and glad i did. I was in Torment 1 tier and worried how powerful Mephisto … WELL , don’t need to do that. The game is still fun and tons of things to do. I kept getting sidetrack during the VOH campaign. So, do you think we are going to get the conclusion during the Seasons or have to wait 1 to 2 years for the next expansion.
