Solo Endgame: Sorc vs Barb

A bit of speculation required, but which do you think would be better solo at end game and why?

Barb, they tend to get super powerful with proper gear and in d4 barbs get the most slots for legendaries/uniques

They’ll prob both be good at different things but if we’re talkin PvP barb no question.

Melee in many ARPGs struggle early game. Look at POE.

Melee tend to scale better with gear, which is why druid is gonna be a monster in end game too.

Yeah this is why i worry, its hard to evaluate only off the first 25 lvls because the first levels were rough on druid and barb.

Funny tho how it didn’t have that problem in D3 from what i remember. D2 was definitely one where i skipped barb all together (or at least run a sorc first to MF then give the gear to your weak barb)

Yeah i heard about that, do all your buffs remain active with your equiped weapons or with your active weapon? Like, im using slot 1 so i get slot 1 buff etc

100% thats what I’ve been trying to explain to people but, you know if their overlords from youtube tell them otherwise to get views and likes then it must be true.

Barb will have all weapon aspects, doesn’t matter if its your active weapon or not.

Krayz … you bring up a very good point. I had figured that out while watching Rhykker’s stuff some weeks ago. While I still plan to play Sorcerer first at release (it just fits my own preferred playstyle better) … my very next Character will DEFINITELY be a Barbarian! Having ALL FOUR Weapon Slots “Active” with Aspects 24/7 is simply AMAZING! Plus … some of those core abilities like Upheaval were just crazy-good when properly supported/built-up!

If balance stays around the same as it was in the beta… Barb by far. Sorc doesn’t have a lot of super amazing legendaries that boost their dps that much. And Barb on the other hand has a lot of them making their scaling far far outshine any other class. I wouldn’t be surpriced if Sorc is on the weaker side in the end game.

I wish I could say Wiz, but I think Barb will rock the endgame.
I will start with Wiz or Necro anyway.

Yeah man, I wish everyone would take a chill pill on the “balance” issues based on level 25. Focus on the technical side of the game, hows the performance, has the networking improved, yada yada. Balance can be dealt with later when we actually have a full picture. As much technical stuff as possible needs to be fixed before launch.

Yeah it is tough to judge based on first 25 levels.

How was Barb on AoE? That was an issue i found with d2 is it was very much click on one enemy at a time… or whirlwind haha.

Dunno, didn’t really tinker on barb much besides getting to 25. Most of my time played was spent on my druid because I enjoyed it more than others.

This is another solution ive been debating, kinda like D2: level up on a caster (ie less gear dependant) then gear up your alt melee so they dont struggle so much.

For the basic fury generators, its all still single target. But all the other nodes have pretty good options. Upheaval was my favorite and could clear a pack of normal mobs, then eventually you get death blow which is a smaller cone aoe but if it kills an enemy the cooldown is reset, so you can use it clear rooms fairly well.

I’m going to guess barb with the 4 weapons slots with 2 of them being 2-handers.

github planer got updates with the final percentages on paragon. This might change some stuff.

I dont think barbs will be enjoyable as a first character. But second is another story when you have useful drops to hand over to them to help give them an edge during leveling.

if the github info on glyph rank and bonusses are true, then that changes everything.

examples:

  • 240% increase on rare nodes within range or
  • for every 5 dexterity within range you get 19,2% increase to Critdmg or
  • for every 5 willpower you deal 10% more dmg with 1hand swords

If that is true, then its just about getting as much glyphs activated as you can.

I vote Sorc after reading that. No questions asked.

Wasnt there something about you only could choose either a legendary node or glyph socket per board?

On the other hand you have to get lucky to find desired glyphs.

If they drop. It looks more like a System, where you just get the glyphs for your class just by leveling. And then you level each glyph by chaining nightmare dungeons.

Barb probably will be the go-to meta for high end content.

I feel Sorc and Necro will start very powerful but they will end up being F tier in endgame.

Druid and Rogue probably will be the middle ground, not great but also not bad.
