I like most of what this season has brought, but on the flip side, it really seems that this is the Season of Bottlenecks. Scattered Prisms are still too rare a drop even farming legion events and every world boss I can while I have play time. Sigil powder is way too scarce as well even with mobs now dropping it inside NMDs. But the big one is the gems. The costs per gem were kept the same as before, but now the number of fragments that drop was cut by 90%. It’s literally 1/10th what we were getting before. I’ve hit LV 90 and I can’t even craft one single flippin’ royal gem. Not one. And I’m going to need five for my armor sockets. That’s fifty thousand ruby fragments, when the current drop rates are on average 40 per drop. That’s asinine, to say the least.
Is there any real reason to make gems so unbelievably tedious to craft? I mean, what’s going on with materials, especially since gems are now required for elixirs as well?

I mean it is kind of in a good place tbh. It just isnt guaranteed power upon hitting X level. There is actually some progression.
Its short but its still there.

I’m thoroughly convinced whomever was responsible for the gem rework wasn’t invited to the meetings. Nothing about the gems, from their lack of useful diversity to their crafting cost to the inability to make sockets….absolutely nothing about it makes sense with the rest of the itemization changes.

One thing I have noticed was the amount of gems dropped is tied to the players level.
I was running my 2nd account through some nmd. The level 100 was getting 400+ gems and the level 50 was getting 40+.
I’m lvl 92 and I get about 250 per drop doing roughly lvl50-55 NMD’s.
They either put out a hotfix or they’re level locked. If it’s the latter, putting that info in the patch notes would have been nice. They really should have made that a LV 85 breakpoint though so people wouldn’t be so up in arms (like I was). But then again, you know how they said that LV 35/55 were the new minimum requirements to equip sacred/ancestral items? Then why are all of the sacred/ancestral drops I’m finding showing LV 60/80 required still? Once you reach LV 60 that becomes the minimum level required to equip, contrary to patch notes. LV 80 for the ancestral items once your character reaches LV 80.
So much of their changes conflict with what they put in the notes it isn’t even funny.
The drop rates of gem fragments increase when you unlock new tiers of gems. At 250 fragments per drop collecting the required amount for royal gems is slow but tolerable. However I do think the gem system could still be polished in a couple of ways: 1) allow converting fragments to another type at a penalty and/or cost and 2) allow upgrading gems to the next tier at a 10:1 ratio.
If NMD mobs are the ones specifically dropping gem mats than it makes sense for the mats to drop in greater quantities as you go up in NMD level.
I don’t believe this is true. I saw a Raxx short where a someone got a lvl 71 ancestral unique with quad GA’s. I haven’t paid much attention to item level thus far as I haven’t made an alt toon yet.
I was also equipping Sacred items well before Lvl 60 because I completed the capstone in the early lvl 50s and I was equipping sacreds straight away in WT3.
Gem fragments are 100% drop from champion mobs (blue glow guys) Highest concentration is PVP zone. Farm them there is your best bet.
Please re-read what I said. Items found after reaching LV 60/80 respectively require those levels to equip, not the new LV 35/55 as noted in the patch notes.
Well, I have 8.6 million elixirs laying around for yeah.
I actually like the changes. It makes upgrading gems feel more rewarding that just replacing them all in one go as soon is they unlocked. It keeps them inline with the pace of master working. A steady climb in power.

Ah, I see what you mean.
The patch notes aren’t necessarily incorrect. They state that that the minimum level required to equip sacreds and ancestrals are 35 and 55. Which is technically true.
It is however misleading that it wasn’t mentioned that this changes once you level up and doesn’t remain at those values.
Game does have trading you know. I have 20 of every royal gem. Id be more than willing to part with for 50 million a pop!
