Am I in an alternate dimension where Blizzard thought Damage reduction was too high? Are you kidding lol?
Seriously, what the heck is this?
Sorc’s survivability was already in a horrible spot, and they nerf survivability further while doing nothing about the terrible Resistance system?
Absolute incompetence.
Making a game more difficult cannot really be seen as “incompetence”.
Think back to Diablo II. Even with ultra end game gear, many damage sources such as the Tomb Vipers by Nithalak would one-shot your character. People still loved to play Diablo II despite that, although I think resurrected did finally fix it ~20 years later.
Most of the time in Ultra end game gear you wont die as much in Diablo 2:LoD. Generally you avoided areas that can 1 shot you or be extra careful. Here in Diablo 4 you can be super careful and still die from a peck from a mob. That isn’t difficulty. And also those tomb vipers, it wasnt one hit and you are dead. It was multiple hits from multiple vipers in fast succession. Only thing I can remember legit 1 hitting you was the dolls on death or maybe Nithalaks corpse explosion. Oh and the old Iron maiden curse (Melee)
I sure as hell did not love to get one-shot. Who actually likes to get one-shot? It’s neither fun, nor challenging…it’s just plain stupid IMO. Literally one of the reasons I never have, nor never will try hardcore.
That said, these Sorcerer nerfs really suck. Before the patch, my level 100 was able to run a 50 ND with relative ease (Ice Shards for the record). After these changes, I ran a 49 ND, and holy hell it’s totally different. I’m literally standing still half the time waiting for Teleport and Frost Nova CDs because of the stupid nerf to CDR. Normally, pre-patch, if I was in a situation where those were on CD, I could still at least move forward a little bit, playing it safe. But no longer. If I can’t TP in and Frost Nova, I’m basically dead.
Within the first 60 seconds on running the 49 post-patch, I was insta-deleted from crap I should not have been, or, at least, stuff that I wasn’t at ND 50 pre-patch. I had to seriously slow down to the point of literally standing still to wait on CDs to continue.
Someone tell me how that’s “fun”?
Edit: It almost seems like they’re trying to re-baseline the game because they feel there’s too much power already, and we shouldn’t be able to do the NDs we can already with certain builds, etc. But if that’s the case…that shows that they did a terrible job of vetting this before release (i.e., they released a beta). And if this is their move going forward, then flipping nerf the respec costs already ffs.
Yeahhhhhh, screw both of those, LMFAO. And even in D2R, those dolls are stupid, and why I’ve lost interest in certain areas of the game. They aren’t a challenge, it’s basically “can you run away fast enough” crap.
No… no they dont…
With my sorc i can mindless clear evwrything in d2 p8 while drunk
Remember N64 007 golden gun mode? That’s what difficulty setting Sorc plays in season 1. Edit: for clarity, you are slappers only, the enemies have the golden guns.
Never had a N64, enlighten me.
The problem is that you don’t take chip damage really in D4 but rather one big massive hit all at once. Nerfing the ever living crap out of Total Armor, Disobedience, and all DR just means you will get one-shot way more often.
To relate it to more recent example of games. It would be like everyone playing awpers only in csgo except you have no weapon while the enemy does. If you are shot you are dead.
Yup, I feel that to the core here
Yep, and we still get the fun of teleporting into melee to freeze em, tickle them with minor damage, and then avoid all attacks if we want to survive. Our skill ceiling is going to be interesting.
Well at least you get to wait 5 seconds instead of 3 seconds to exit dungeons now. You use that extra time to contemplate your life choices.
LMFAO, I just teleport out. I don’t ever use “Leave Dungeon”. So that stupid nerf doesn’t affect me! Mwa ha ha ha ha.
You see… the problem was that armor and damage reduction was outperforming resistance.
By nerfing armor and damage reduction, they have inadvertently buffed their crappy res system so that it may be the thing to slot in jewelry now for non-int classes.
Blizzard is big-braining.
Technically it was 1 tomb viper hitting you every update for ~100 physical damage due to a bug with their poison spear causing it to deal their melee physical damage on every update rather than applying a poison damage to you just once. Due to each of these physical hits being calculated as a physical hit, they each could trigger hit recovery and block, effectively stun locking you in place and forcing you to tank the entire duration of the spear. The only class that could really survive this was a max block rate Paladin chugging potions like crazy, and even then they were exposed to a grating noise as they blocked ~12 hits per second.
Did not see people rage quitting Diablo II for that…
Probably. Which is a very good thing to happen. No repeat of Diablo III where every update just kept adding additional 0s to damage because they made a small overshoot with one class that they have to compensate for.
We are talking about Diablo II classic. Not Resurrected which balanced and fixed a lot of those broken damage sources, as well as overall buffing most characters.
Sorceress could not mindless clear everywhere due to elemental resistances. They either had to selectively clear based on a single element, or they had to clear inefficiently by using a weaker dual element build. Even then they were often just 1 second away from death, with a bad teleport into mana burning removing all mana, or one of those tomb vipers touching them with a poison spear.
It’s my understanding that resistance is straight-up broken. So yeah, let’s nerf the only other viable survivability you have without fixing the underlying issue!
i like how they put all the buffs to additive damage inbetween the massive nerfs to crit and vuln on 1 side and all the damage reductions on the other side. to make people think your actually getting a buff
I cannot help but agree.
