Do you even fully comprehend that change or you just want to complain for the sake of complaining?
You have to be in a dungeon that has Kill All Monsters objective, and you have to kill most of them until the rest “small numbers of straggling monsters” come looking for you. That is very specific small window of time and you’re like the sky is falling you can’t go afk.

Ok. So no where in my post did I ask for this to be changed. I like the change. You guys are so trained to read everything as negative.
Since you guys are a little slow on the uptake, Ill spell it out. The post is more about getting the community to actually think about the change, and how adding pause would be a great addition. I’m trying to lead you thirsty, dying horses to water here, but since your all cranky and would rather just kick people in the teeth lol…
My bliz email said I completed 82 dungeons/159 story missions. I never leveled any characters spamming dungeons. So I did all those Kill XXX several times and I did have to backtrack a couple times. So yeah, the change is good. But it was knee jerk that created other small issues. They should have just copied the D3 rift system where you kill generally a good percent of them, then 1 mob hiding in a corner would be a non-issue.
Edit: Also, some of the endgame stuff sounds like you might have limited lifes… so dying might actually matter.
You relied like this and you want people to respond to you positively.
The brilliant part believe it or not was directed toward the devs in mentioned “knee jerk reaction”, not the poster.
Edit: To be more blunt, Good game design does not include 2x load screens just to pause the game.
I think this means singular enemies you leave behind will agro to you instead of remaining in their corners where you missed them. If you don’t leave any behind, I don’t think they will agro.
“small numbers of straggling monsters” sounds like something that won’t trigger immediately. I suspect it won’t happen until the majority have been killed, and/or, unless mobs in a certain radius have been defeated (IOW, if you kill two guys in a corridor, but never saw the three that were around a corner? Those three might come looking for you, 'cause their neighbors are missing).
No, actually Im hoping they just add a pause button. Wish they would spend 1 minute thinking about changes instead of knee jerking everything it seems in that update.
More than likely never going to happen. With D3 they wanted to prevent players from pausing the game to prevent death, which is why there is the AFK timer on pausing which cancels your pause then makes you vulnerable for 10 seconds before logging you out. This is just their evolution of that concept. They are very purposefully preventing you from pausing to prevent your death, they don’t want you to be able to take your safety blanket into the open world/dungeons.

This is a non issue for me. If you want to afk do so in town if on hardcore, if on softcore it’s not a big deal at all compared to real life stuff.
…if you want coffee, TP to town then back again when you are done with it. 2 loading screens = 5-10 seconds. If that is too much for you, well … maybe Mario Bros is a better game for you?

Oh a witty one here. I like clean designs. Arguing that double porting to pause a game is fine in 2023 is laughable. But then agian, players like you who are willing to accept anything just to hit play is why games today are sloppy in spots. Maybe Mario would be better for you actually
As people proved, death is avoided with alt-f4 already, no need to pause. I don’t believe that’s why its not in game atm. As someone with a programming background I can safely say it has nothing to do with it. Pausing and logging out arent linked in a game world as you believe on your screen. As noted, logging out can reactivate you in the game world for a predefined timer if they want.
You have poor reading comprehension.
For anyone informed, there was negative feedback on “kill all” quests where the player would have to roam the dungeon to find the monsters. With this enabled whenever you hit a breaking point, of which they have not said, then monsters will seek you out so you dont have to search.
This is a net positive, you can still AFK but most likely shouldnt during the quest. If you are having issues just portal out. If you are having issues and dont want to portal then you that is a YOU issue that none of us can fix.
The game is a live game and does not need a pause button, you have the option to portal out. Again if that is too much work for you then find another game. You having no patience for a “loading” screen is not our fault.
Thats great, now is time to step out of your vacuum of thought, I think the issues you have are not really with the game…
What if the mob we -deliberately missed- was The Butcher
It is why it is in the game according to Blizzard. You can choose to believe that or not. If they could prevent you from using alt f4 in some way they would probably do that too.
What are you going to do in the overworld, during world bosses, in a stronghold or another endgame mode when something comes up?
It wasn’t MMO-lite, either.

It’s an online multiplayer game.
You can’t pause WoW, or EQ, or New World, or other online multiplayer games either.
Not even two loading screens. You don’t need to sit through the first one. Zero if you also happen to time your afk to unload loot.

This seems like a really solid suggestion given your scenario. Unless youre with a party, it has no negative to your play.
I guess the alternative is just letting your coffee burn or getting coffee before playing? Haha

… set the coffee machine up on a side-table next to your desk.
