So many steps to type/chat in-game on PS5 using a separate keyboard

Blizzard team,

There are an awful lot of steps just to send a message in-game using a separate keyboard on a PS5. You have to open the wheel and select “open chat” via the controller. Then push “X” on the controller which opens the on-screen keyboard. Type your message on the keyboard. Your message then appears in the smaller in-game chat window. Then, I have to go back to my controller and push Square to submit the message.

That’s a lot of steps.

I play another game—an MMO—where you just hit the return/enter button on the keyboard and it intuitively knows that I wanna to type something in the chat box on screen. Pressing enter on that game takes me straight to the on-screen chat box with the cursor blinking waiting on me to type what it is I have to say. After my message is typed, I hit enter and the message is sent to the chat.

Blizzard should look into doing something like this for the Diablo 4 game to make communicating on PS5 easier for those of us that own separate keyboards.

Honestly have just been using the battle app on my phone to send messages to my friends if I’m not already in party voice chat with them.

Voice chat doesn’t work ps5 to PC. At least a friend of mine wasn’t able to hear me or talk

PLEASE FIX THIS!

JUST MAKE IT SO PRESSING ENTER ON THE KEYBOARD OPENS THE CHAT AND ESC EXITS IT.

and enter to send messages and tab to go between recipients PLEASE

Works. Already have friends I chat over voice. The comp guys do lag when talking depending on their pc specs tho

This is the post I was looking for.
It is just a long process to send a message, although being able to type faster is better than using the controller.

it doesn’t look like the console games have any kind of mouse and Keyboard support and we are just using the native PS5 chat to type with the keyboards.

It would be nice to have a press enter to type, enter to send and esc to exit.

I hope you fix this sooner or later.

It’s just not feasible to use the chat funcion in a normal conversation in its current iteration.

Thanks

We need this, literally so annoyed trying to talk to random people I party with…asking to help find mystery chest or something takes too much time a s risk dying while doing it in the area. We need this so we can become more social as a console player.

Thank you for explaining the steps, I thought keyboard wasn’t supported for d4 on ps5 at all… x) wonder if that other MMO starts with F and ends with inal Fantasy XIV but yeah, same experience and hope blizzard can and will “fix” this.

FIX THIS PLEASE

An MMO giant not putting out a change for this is disappointing :pensive:

Changing skills on the fly on console is also a big challenge, you have to press 4 buttons in order to change a skill in the bar. That could easily mean you’re dead in most situations, especially in PVP.

It’s too many inputs on any console. It should be simple, press enter, open chat box, tab to change chat type, Say what you need to say, press enter to send. Escape to close chat box.

It also means there are some challenges console players are unlikely to be able to complete

Yeah, chat needs to be as simple as holding down a button or pressing 1 button. It is too tedious to communicate with a team via chat. I end up fumbling and teleporting out.

We don’t even have a way to find a party without chatting, it’s annoying to interact with guild, I want to be able to ask/answer quick questions on guild chat without needing to build a separated setup just to chat (badly) or have to go to discord every time. Please fix this asap, no point to cross play without easy communication.

You and me both - I have some memory issues thanks to fibromyalgia (yay fibro fog) and literally have moments where I forget what my buttons do.
