Once the mana shield chaos perk dropped in T1, I equiped it. I immediately noticed my Mana was never even dropping when taking hits. I also have two other perks that should drain mana; the conjuration one and the increased stats perk for core skills. So I bumped up to T3, and although my damage output is horrible, I can just walk around with ease and not worrying about dying. Then I bumped up to T4, and although I’m starting to notice my mana start to drop slightly, it’s very manageable.
Mana Shield Chaos perk is so broken lol

Belial will one shot you if the beam of fire hits you. It’s the only time I’ve died. Twice

I had mine crack once but so far no complete break. Standing in poison seems to not effect it much nor does spending too much time on Lilith’s burning floor which use to be insta-death.
makes lilth fight easy cause you can run into the red bad area to avoid mechanics lol, but not unlimitedly
a few other bosses 1 shot mechanics can still kill you… duriels arm spike and a few others.

Wait till you experience the pain of Draining Spires. You wouldn’t think it would bleed you dry, but it does.

There is likely some bugs with mana shield.
My friend and I are both playing same hydra sorc build from maxroll.
I do practically not take damage from anything, lilith, belial, andarial, durial…standing in all their abilities that usually one shots you, just tanking and ignoring them. The max hit I seems to be able to take is 2k to my mana shield.
When my friend tries the same, he dies.
Also noted that I am not interrupted when opening chest or teleporting, but he is.
We have tried to cross reference the build: boss powers, legendary aspects, paragon tree, skills, enchantments, consumables, uniques. There is nothing that seems to stand out.
But we have a vastly different experience on survivability.
You’re taking damage but your mana pool is so huge you don’t see it.
Mana-shield is definitely weirdly-OP for me. I have seen a minor flicker in mana sometimes, but seems more from use and not damage. Even the Wandering Death’s beams do nothing. I am still mainitaining some DR left over from the pre-mana-shield build and my mana pool is huge, but I would expect to at least see some movement in mana.
[edit: was just doing duriel and the mana pool did twitch a bit. Also, I do have maxxed resistences and armor and some barrier usage]
You should see it, because your regeneration is supposed to stop for 2s if you take damage.
There is definitely a weird damage reduction bug that makes Sorcs practically immortal with Mana Shield.

the bug is “your still 100 % life” not taking damage… your mana is taking damage, but they didnt rescript the damage to count to count to mana damage, why perks that say “while healthy” are also freebies, only need 1 point in the align the elements because again your health takes no damage your mana is. so perm 60 % elite dmg reduction for only 1 point, that does seam to work with mitigating mana’s damage taken
your also able to town portal while being hit, as you take no health dmg.
a few other perks… almost makes imbiber glyph value again EXCEPT you need to wear the unqiue pants that lets you drink potions while full life still… it would be insane X30 multi for zero potions left and full life still… but still wouldnt overpower more then a chaos leg armors dmg multi instead… almost… but there is that other unqiue chest that adds to potion count… not sure how many more potions past 10 you could stock, as each gives 3 X multi

I was thinking about that, yeah, seems the most obvious bug. But I still wonder if that’s all, because even 60% dr wouldn’t enable you to simply stand inside damage effects like the Andariel tornado or ignore most one-shot mechanics without seeing any major movement in the mana globe. After all 10-15k “life” isn’t that much.
I guess you mean 1.3x (30%[x]) which isn’t “insane”, but better than all other glyph damage buffs that usually are around 15%[x].
Not even. I have had 14k life in previous seasons. I’m not even close to that yet.
That’s probably exactly what it is, and why Draining Spires absolutely nails me to the wall. It’s life LOST, not damage.
There is a bug with Melted Heart of Selig as well. When equipped, damage skips your Mana Shield and even trash mobs one-shot you
[EDIT]
I just tested Mana Shield again. With completely scuffed gear, 2800 mana, 0 (ZERO!) armor and 10-20% resistances, I can still face-tank torment 4 pit mobs
While I’m afflicted by damage over time (health globe turning green without Mana Shield) the mana generation stopps for quite some time so that I die shortly after.
Other than that I didn’t see anything able to kill me through Mana Shield.
Have yet to die since I got mana shield… running the starter variant of Roxy’s Rox Omnium build (all uniques and legendaries, no chaos/mythic gear yet) and crushing T4 at P145. Mana pool is just over 10k.
Haven’t done much in the Pit since unlocking T4… glyphs are still around 20 LOL and this build just crushes everything.
If I get the usable Chaos gear drops that’s just icing on the cake… but they definitely aren’t required.
so how is this any different than other seasons?
it always get to the point damage stops being a factor once you have a little bit of gear.
Its different because the def-game ends, before the endgame even really started. Besides that especially Sorc usually has the option to go more glass canon, even in the late endgame, which is completely irrelevant this season.
Anyway, it doesn’t matter ‘how’ it is different, its a bug that removes one aspect of building your gear completely and needs to be fixed asap.

Dear lord! I was struggling with that cursed amulet for 3 days now, dying from some random skeletal archer in T3. Unequipped it and now I can just stand inside dozens of mobs for days and don’t even see the mana drop.
