“Well started off fighting fallens which were revived. Later rescued Deckard Cain and had free item identification. Blood raven was a bit tricky with all her undead rogue guard but let me hire a rogue in town myself. The blacksmith surprised my and I liked the diversity of monsters on the way to Andariel. Really gotta watch out for her poison damage. She is known to drop nice rare and unique jewelry. Felt good to travel to Act 2 with Warriv.”
Asking a D4 player:
"Well can’t really remember the exact name of the town/NPC/boss/reward/monster, but it was great. Also it was only Act 1, you will see they put their heart and soul into the other acts. There will be no generic algorithm generated landscape tiles, NPC, monsters or town names. You’ll see at launch!
Asking a D3 player:
“Diablo 4 was ok, nothing special. Too much like the worst parts of Lost Ark that I hated (the CC immune bosses that dealt too much damage) and too little like the best parts of Lost Ark (the amazing art direction for the spells in Lost Ark) and nothing like Diablo 3, a game I love.”
Every Diablo game had its failings that became more apparent as your play time increased. Diablo 1 and 2 were extremely repetitive. Looking back, I honestly can’t believe I got so much play time out of D2. It was mostly the people they kept me going. My friends wanted to PvP, or they wanted a rush/power level. I spent a large amount of time just chatting in lobbies.
Diablo 3 was too easy after RoS and the gear was boring.
I’m sure the bad parts of Diablo 4 will show up sooner or later, but I expect to get a lot of enjoyment out of it before I reach that point.
Completely unbiased and objective descriptions. Definitely did not go out of your way to paint one in a positive light and the other as negative as possible.
Which NPCs did you like the most, which special layouts and monster mechanics were based on a nice story?
Which area and villages within act 1 did you like the most and which the least?
If you are true to yourself, 90% of it was an indistinguishable generic mass of interchangeable content without any particular rememberability or emotional bond including all item drops.
I mean, Vigo wasn’t overly interesting but he was still more interesting than any npc in d2 act 1. The only reason those characters stick out in your mind is due to extreme repetition. You remember “Stay awhile, and listen!” because it was pounded into your brain 5000 times.
You are extremely over exaggerating how interesting the bosses were. Blood Raven was an archer who summoned some undead. You went to the cemetary and clicked on her until she was dead, maybe avoiding a few arrows along the way. Andariel? Pretty much of any of the D4 act 1 random bosses have more interesting mechanics than a poison nova.
Again, you remember those bosses because you killed them over and over and over for years. If you enjoy D4 and play it for years, all of the bosses will end up being memorable as well.
Nobody is going to develop an emotional connection in a 3 day beta that can compete with 20 year old nostalgia.
I felt pretty detached from most of it, but in the back of my mind I know its a beta and nothing I do matters.
I still enjoyed everything, but I’ll enjoy it more when my progress won’t be wiped. With your negative outlook on the game, maybe you should stop posting here and go play something you find fun.
This is true. I’ve played Act 1 in Diao multiple times and I can remember the progress of time in it fairly well due to it.
However I’ve played the prologue in D4 and it hit me on the first run and I still have it in mind. Mainly the church scene because I feel bad for the priest and how he went.
I can’t say much for the rest of the act as I’ve been too busy exploring the world and just having fun playing.
