So happy I found Gohrs Devastating Grips - Knowing now they are nerfed to garbage (Barb thoughts of a casual player)

Greetings,

I’m rarely in these forums. And just looking at all the threads, most of them are a toxic wasteland. But there are still people here with absolutely valid points and actually good comments.

So I thought I might share my experience as this comes from someone who is more or less a casual player. I come home from a very long working day and just wanna relax while playing, slashing some enemies. Have a Level 58 Barbarian and like good old D2 days, I’m playing Whirlwind. On Wolrd Tier 3, my character became quite the damage sponge but is he still fun to play? Don’t know, actually. I think it can be fun but seriously, the Barb can be a slow slog without dealing meaningful damage. I stand there with open eyes, even with half decent gear, how much the Barb struggles to generate fury. When the Barb is at full power, it feels like Blizzard is telling me the following: “Ok boy, that was enough fun, the ride is over, please leave the ride so another passenger can board it”. When my Barb deals damage, he became a slog a few moments later.

Got Gohrs Devastating Grips yesterday. It was my first no story related unique item I’ve found and I was quite happy because they were the go to Gloves for the Barb who uses Whirlwind. I tell you again, I’m not someone who is following any breaking revelations and drama, I simply do not have the time for that. So in my view, these gloves were still awesome. Until I’ve read they were nerfed to death. The item description already sounded fishy to me because that was not the promised stuff I’ve read over at Maxroll or Fextralife.

So a simple question: Why nerfing a unique item so hard that it became more ore less average? (for me, it’s still better than the stuff I’m currently wearing). This completely ruins the meaning behind something powerful, unique. It’s ok to nerf if it is too extreme, but nerfing it over 40% and give it another downside? The item is practically more a burden now than actually something you should use for a long time.

I know there weren’t any new nerfs to the Barb now, but hilariously enough, my Barb feels, since the latest patch, slower than ever before. I haven’t heard of any significant buffs that makes the Barb faster or more powerful. A friend of mine already abandoned his Barb, waiting for the first season to start and then finally create a new character and new class. I wouldn’t go so far, but I cannot blame him. Barb was fun during my story run, but playing it now on WT3, yeah, I think it’s pretty much average especially compared to other classes. But at least I’m a damage sponge, I was able to kill the Butcher which gave me nothing at all ;D

The simple answer: Because Blizzard

They take the most lazy apathetic approach to nerfs

The infuriating part is that they see something that only the top tier streamers can do, and apply smashing sweeping changes that obliterate entire playstyles and builds for the rest of the playerbase …never bothering to investigate or examine ripple effects or unintended (or intended?) consequences of smashing certain items/aspects/skills/etc into dust

Barb was hit with several nerfs back to back all while it had a bug that allowed it to deal unintended damage (I believe shouts used during a WW reset the damage buff from a legendary aspect making it scale infinitely).

I think that nerfing a class several times before this bug was addressed has resulted in barbs being a lot weaker than intended.

If this bug was addressed before they nerfed barbs 10+ times, they could have made better adjustments and the balance should have been better.

But here we are where Barb takes 15 minutes to kill lilith while sorc, necro, and rogue all can down her in under 2 minutes. Game will never have perfect balance but this is just ridiculous. The lilith fight is 100 times harder on a Barb vs these other classes that don’t even have to deal with the mechs.

The gloves are still BIS for WW barb, there’s not really anything better to put in your glove slot. I see pretty high crits out of them regularly.

I’m still enjoying my barb and face rolling content, most of the nerfs were just bug/exploit fixes for people doing hundreds of millions of damage. The only nerf we really got was to shouts.

That is very not true, stop reading out of date build guides.

NON physical damage bonus and attack speed does NOTHING for physical/channeled (WW) skills. Wep speed I believe (maybe) does. Lucky hit chance isn’t a high priority stat leaving only + ranks to ww which you can get on any glove. You are FAR better off getting +dmg to vuln, +crit and +crit dmg on gloves. The effect is so situational that it has become the worst in slot. They are basically the dust devil whirl wind legendary aspect now. Actually I think those do more damage more often so they are technically a better choice.

You can’t get crit damage or vulnerability damage on gloves.

Yeah I don’t have it memorized. Just looked at ranked. Crit, mainstat, pdot, lucky hit restore resource or similar. whatever lego aspect, I am using the one that extends Berserk and it feels powerful.

They are still best in slot but just barely the guides are not outdated I have a level 80 barb but I will say it has to be played with the iron will ability over your generator (with shout uptime close to 100%) and your defensive capabilities definitely go down since you also have to play grasping ww imo. Idk like you said originally the forums are such a cesspool of sweats who cry about everything but I have to agree barb was overnerfed not unplayable but overnerfed for sure. Maybe once I hit 100 I’ll have to same level of salt but I’ve enjoyed my semi casual experience to level 80

I will add though that until I got bold chieftains and a max roll ring of echoing fury barb felt a lot more sluggish. I definitely think the nerf to bold chieftains was unnecessary or at least too heavy handed

Definitely not BiS for Whirlwind, but not bad.

I’m open to suggestion/improvement. There are no good damage multiplying offensive aspects left to put on them since we have so many weapons. We could get more strength/crit chance from rare gloves, but I’m already at 1500 strength and over 80% crit chance with WW.

Vulnerable damage and crit damage are the two most important stats to ww barb after you get your resource generation cleared up

We already discussed that, neither of those can roll on gloves.

Ghors are bis at least imo as I stated above. A good roll on non physical damage and the burst is definitely noticeable. I thought you were talking about general damage increases not gloves since again in my semi-casual opinion and the opinion of many builders they are bis. Because from my understanding non physical damage does boost the giant amount of bleed damage we do especially with berserk ripping so yes they are bis the guides I have read have been updated this week
